  • HP Pavilion a6010n: Question

I have a HP Pavilion a6010n PC. Now, my computer has Windows Vista Home Premium. Now my problem is sometimes it will load windows and sometimes it wont. It will start up to a blank black screen. And does nothing after that. But when I installed Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca. It will do a full load on the desktop. But my question is why wont he do the same thing for windows vista? My graphics card and motherboard works very well with problems Linux. No it. IM at a loss about why windows not to load not completely on the desktop. Now, I can't afford to take it to a computer repair shop. Also, cannot afford to buy another. I hope someone here can help me.

I think there may have been a little problem with Vista.  If you did a system recovery, he was able to boot Vista.  That's what you were doing with Linux.  A new installation can solve many problems.

  • Pavilion a6010n frozen BIOS update

    I was updating a Pavilion a6010n computer.

I ran the update of the BIOS (v.5.13 to v.5.23) file. Open attention box does not turn off the computer, etc..

    The update froze.

After an hour, I left pending. I shut down the computer manually. Removed the battery of the BIOS for half a minute.

I reinstalled the battery and plugged to the computer. Of course it won't start. Does not start even to start.

Is there a recovery process, that we can use to get back on this computer? Perhaps a BIOS file, we can put it on a drive Flash or something?

HP says they no longer support this machine.

    Help!

    JakeKay, welcome to the forum.

Because your computer is more than 8 years old, it was built before that some of the new BIOS recovery methods have been developed.  Therefore, I don't think there is anything you can do.

  • Addition of SSD drive

I have a Pavilion a6010n.  It has two hard disks, but I would add a SSD drive.  Can I do this?  The system has also two CD/DVD drives.

    Hello

Please first check the spare SATA ports (bottom right: blue, yellow,...). If

    b it has alternative port,

    (b) there is the guest room,

You can add SSD to your machine. SSD being much smaller and thinner, you need a set of media and to connect SATA cable. Please see the following guide:

  • Windows question

OK, I have a HP Pavilion a6010n PC. Now I have Windows Vista Home Premium. Now can I remove vista and put it back in Ubunu operating system? I bought the recovery for the computer disk. Or do I just run it Ubuntu along side windows? I have Ubuntu here. Works much faster then windows.

Ubuntu should be fully compatible with your HP Pavilion Media Center a6010n desktop. The choice is really yours... If you feel you need Windows, dual boot Windows and Ubuntu on the computer... If you can do everything you need in Ubuntu, just run Ubuntu. If you need Windows, you can abandon the HP OEM Vista came with the computer and run vanilla Windows 7 instead. You will notice a good bit of difference just by doing this.

  • PC fan can't even when the computer is put to sleep

I have a HP Pavilion a6010n pc computer. The fan not stop, even in mode 'sleep'. Can U help me please?

    Hi, Jason.

    Clean the dust bunnies

Once a month, use compressed air to clean all external openings, including the fan from dust, etc.

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_vista-hardware/PC-fan-runs-constantly/f649965e-2470-41DA-8803-25bbd4533852

    1. some processes were the largest part of your share of processor (up to 50% or more for example avp.exe, svchost.exe).

    2. a graphic card intensive application is running (for example. Games).

    3. There are large amount of dust in the PC so there are ventilation problem which makes the hot PC and trigger the extreme to accelerate the process to cool the PC.

    4. the cooler or heat sink is malfunctioning or is disconnected somehow the processor.

    Solution

    1. run the Task Manager and sort the list of processes based on the sharing of processor and see which application is considered the highest. Once identified, repair, remove or interrupt the process.

    2. stop playing the games or other GPU intensive application or use the cooling pad if you want to continue using them.

For 3 and 4, take it to a nearby hp service center and tell them the problem.

I made a new clean install of windows using the Recovery DVD Kit from HP. And sometimes I can get to install certain programs. And sometimes, he won't let me. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? I hate to have to go back because of Linux of this problem.

    Hello

After the reinstallation, you did it ensure that Service Packs are installed, and Windows is up-to-date?

Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.

It will also tell you which SP you have installed.

Then, choose the download of 'bit' OK to use to install Service Packs, installation of SP1 first if it is not already installed.

    Vista SP1 32-bit (x 86): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30

    Vista SP1 64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21299

    Vista SP2 32-bit (x 86): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=16468

Hello rhenry, you can try this. When the system starts in Mode safe mode, go to start, run and type of dialog box run msconfig

Go to the Boot.ini tab, and then make sure that Safe Mode is disabled (Off).

Then click on apply and reboot the system.
