  What version of Windows 7 do you have?  (Open a DOS window and type WORM.)

  Try the following: start, devices and printers, adding a printer, add a local printer, LPT1: (just as a placeholder), then, and then click Windows Update.  Your computer must be connected to the internet.  It may take a few minutes for the current list, once it is click on the HP manufacturer (not HP) and scroll down beyond the Designjet 800PS printer Deskjet 1220C.

  If for some reason you can't get the driver via Windows Update is also available on the Windows Catalog Site but this site is a little awkward to use.  The HP 1220C driver can be downloaded from the Site catalog Microsoft Update here.  You should not use IE, this site does not support other browsers.  The x 64 version of the driver is the one who is 11.6 Mb, the smaller is the x 86 driver and the largest is for the rare IA-64 architecture.  In this case, you save the file downloaded from the Microsoft website, and then extract the files into a working directory.  When you add the printer select the option "have disk" and point to the file where the driver was previously extracted.

  The Deskjet 1220C driver available via Windows Update is a good match for the Deskjet 1280 Windows 10.

  I have a 1280 Deskjet quite old but trustworthy. I can't connect with the new computer laptop Vista Basic. 1280 does not appear in HP list when I try to add a printer. The driver is easy to find (dj1280). The only 1200 series printer listed is the 1220C and is not lke my 1280. How can I get 1280 in the lists to add printer, then to access the correct driver!

  In printer "Driver" preferences, "Generic PCL Laser Printer" has been selected. With this selecetd, I could only print in B & W.

  I tried to look for Deskjet 1280 in the drop-down list pilot but he wasn't there. The closest I could find was HP Deskjet 1200 C - v5.2.3 Glentenprint.

  I tried printing with it and it prints in color. However, when I go to print, there is no options to select the type of paper, printing etc. The qulity that comes out is low.

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  Officially, the unit is therefore more compatible with the new version of the OS.

  The 3rd party Gutenprint printer driver does not support the specific printer.

  However, you can try the 3rd party HPIJS print driver that support your printer. That's why should provide more detailed options and a better quality.

  You can get the driver, via microsoft update

  (2) or the start - RUN - type DEVMGMT. Enter MSC

  (3) find your unknown printer, then right-click, choose Update driver software

  (4) accept for the onliner control

  (5) wait a few minutes, the wizard will search new device update driver, once

  found, it wil download, then it installs automatically

  (6) you must reboot your system

  1. have you tried to download the driver from the manufacturer's Web site?

  2. you are trying to install the printer or repair? What exactly is the problem you are having?

  I bought a new laptop with windows 7 64 bit home edition, my HP deskjet 1280 printer-A3 color is detected as an unknown device and asks to install the disk driver. This does not work, I am aware that when windows 7 are first released such a driver is not available.

  If you have the HP website for Vista 64 bit, try this one, it should work in Win7.

  No, and it will not be because the 1280 is an abandoned product.

  What you have to do is to go to control panel > devices and printers > add a printer.

  When in the process, you can use Windows Update to search for a driver, take it. The list of compatible printers is growing exponential, and your should now be in the list of printers HP or Hewlett Packard... This may take a few minutes to grow...

  Use the hp1280 driver in Windows Vista 64-bit. It works! until now I had no problem A3 and other sizes. I searched many forums and believe me, it took me forever to find this answer. I hope this works for you

  You probably have an old #78 cartridge that does not work yellow.  Try printing a yellow block, I suspect that this will show white.  A new cartridge should solve your problem.
