  Whenever I try to install a software, a window appears saying that my windows installer is missing on my computer and cannot install the software?  What should I do?

  I had to take my computer to Best Buy for repair.  He got like 200 virus on it.  It took 4 days to clean the virus, tune up and install Windows 7.  They couldn't fix with Windows Vista Home Basic on it because they did not have a disk and I don't have either.  When they have installed Windows 7, who took care of all my problems.

  I'm running a Compaq Presario S4020WM and have Windows XP Professional (Service Pack 3) installed.  I got this computer as a gift and it came with this operating system.  The operating system is not a genuine copy of windows (he says it's a version of test on my desktop wallpaper).  The sticker on the computer, says that he supplied with Windows XP Edition original family.  I would like to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition on the computer, but I don't have the installation disc.  I contacted the web site of the window and chat with technical support.  They asked me to contact the manufacturer of the computer for my specific product key installation disc.  My product key is [personal information deleted], my product number is DK214A and the S/N is[personal information deleted].  I know I am not pleased under warranty, but I would be eternally grateful if you could send me the Installation disk for Windows Home Edition for this particular product key.  Thank you.

  1. have you done any hardware changes or software on your computer before this problem?

  2. do you have security software installed on your computer?

  3. when exactly you receive this error message?

  (a) I recommend you run a virus scan online from the link given below and check if the problem persists:

  Also, make sure that you have the latest update of the software antivirus installed on your computer, so that it works correctly.

  (b) you can also download & run Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer.

  Due to Windows Installer, you try to unregister Windows Installer, and then reregister Windows Installer and check if the problem persists. To do this, follow these steps:
   
  a. initially, box run, type "msiexec /unreg" and press ENTER on the keyboard.
   
  b. Type "msiexec/regserver" and press ENTER on the keyboard.

  To answer your question - no you can't install without disc and and you can not download (AFAIK) XP from anywhere.
  The "donor" was in violation of the LICENSE agreement. You need to either get the donor to feed the disks or you will need (unfortunately) buy new copies...

  Microsoft does not disks for computers manufactured OEM.

  This is for Acer to do, if they still have any available.

  As you never have a disc, you must have a recovery Partition to reinstall the operating system.

  To start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt and F10 keys.

However, the license type is SLP:OEM and no detail... not sure what SLP: OEM means... I thought that the OS discs are the same. Someone told me no retail editions are not suitable for a new OS, but I'm confused. The disc says, Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit, but didn't holograms who have all MS OS disks and the disk is labeled for use with a Dell system only, if the means it will work very well on my Dell PC? The label does not which brand or model this disc is for, but said only for the Dell PC which is my PC. I'm assuming, the disk won't work on all Dells, maybe someone can offer suggestions, any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

  It would seem that your original DVD came without Service Pack 1.

  Over time, you installed SP1 that makes the operating system newer than the one on the DVD.

  Uninstall SP1 > do the installation of upgrade repair > reinstall SP1.

  Well im in a bit of a pickle, you could say. I have downloaded Windows 8 Pro using the upgrade wizard, but hit a few speed bumps. He ceased to recognize all the mice that I own and I could not uninstall and reinstall I downloaded digitally, and did not have a physical copy so I kept getting an error message telling me to insert installation disk and then try again. I had to format and then clone my old HDD to get my pc working again. Unfortunately there is no way to downlading Windows 8 without having to pay again for it which seems silly. I'm very tempted to find illicit ways of downlading what I have now lost $39,95 on something I can't redownload and install. I have a valid product key, but I had formatted my HARD drive without removing the key first I don't think it is no longer valid :(
