  I'm running out of disk space on my C drive and I moved what I know I can move safely. Are there other places I can watch I don't know or is there any bloatware that I can remove? My current storage is 220MB and have only 8.5 MB remaining for the updates.

  What is your availability/capacity of the HDD/SSD? May be mean you gigabytes by writing that "my current storage is 220 MB and only have 8.5 MB remaining for the updates." - could you elaborate? Is this HP Elitebook 850 and Win 7?

• EliteBook 2530p. Can not turn on WiFi Windows 10

  Ive just upgraded the machine above 10 win 10 with the help of this site. Everything works fine except one thing, I can not turn on WiFi.

  The orange LED on the touch screen under the screen and the front edge of the machine are both orange and when I try to use the touch screen to turn it on nothing happens.

  All other keys work fine so I don't think that's the problem. I don't know another way to activate the WiFi on this machine.

  The WiFi card is recognized in Windows 10 Device Manager and I have re-installed the card and made sure the antenna cables are properly connected.

  Anyone had similar problems with WiFi / Win 10 works is not on this machine model?

  Any help or advice appreciated.

  I'm frustrated, trying to get the WiFi works because it is a machine I was in the process of selling and I had no user file to worry about, I decided to clean install Windows 10 and re - install Windows 7.

  I did this and load all nessasary drivers but no matter what I did the WiFi refused to turn on. I did several searches and HP Wireless Assistant who got the status of 'Wireless LAN' was OFF but the Start button is grayed out so I couldn't activate it.

  While remaining in the wireless Assistant I hit the WiFi button on the touch screen and a message appeared telling me to unplug my Ethernet cable. As soon as it is unplugged the button power on in the Wireless Assistant has become clickable and I was able to turn on the WiFi!

  So it seems that if you connect an Ethernet cable to this model of HP, the WiFi system is disabled and the only way for him help is by unplugging the Ethernet cable.

  I think I'm going to stick with Win 7 because I'm still not sure that the wireless card is supported under Win 10

  I would like to upgrade to 10 64-bit windows, but I can't find compatible drivers. I tried to update but the touchpad was not recognized by windows, the tactile bar does not work well, and I have not found one driver other than the video card driver.

  I would like to know if there are drivers that are compatible with my laptop for Windows 64-bit 10.

  Officially, your computer does not support Windows 10 because it is an old model. Supported are only Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7.

  Windows 10 was created not even when Windows 10 has arrived.

  Personally, I would recommend that you take advantage of this computer with Windows 7. You have a wonderful notebook with excellent hardware configuration and nice operating system that will be supported by 2020. Something that usually works fixing it breaks

  Assistant HP support keeps showing me that there is an update for the graphics card AMD driver and control panel for my HP EliteBook 8540w. It is for the driver to download and then fails.  I could update all my drivers except this one today.

  I had already uninstalled and reinstalled it as suggested elsewhere on these cards (and before your above suggestion). Kudos are certainly in order because you answered, but yours was not the answer that solved my problem.

  Curiously, I used HP Support Manager to answer my question, to aid that it is built based on cat. I was put in a conversation with a competent representative of HP and he advised me to do the same thing as you. Still, I had to tell him it was all finished. I allowed him to control remotely from my laptop through virtual rooms of HP and he confirms what I said.

  In the end, we agreed that the wrong display driver that was listed in the support manager was an anomaly that should not be are revealed to me that he is not yet released. The representative stated that he would a note at HP on the problem as it was more than just an embarrassment on my part; I tried several times to install this driver ghost using HP Support Mananger only of for have failed and then uninstall later Support Manager himself AND finally post on this forum before you try the chat feature...

  Overall I am satisfied by the level of support I received. I recommend the option chat to everyone that I was helped by a real person with real technical skills and there is no "communication problem" between us.

  This isn't a memory module, it is an empty slot. You can put one in there.

• EliteBook 8540p: erase secure against disk Sanitizer?

  I see in my BIOS I have a secure erase option and an option for the disk Sanitizer. What is the difference?

  (Yes, I'm aware that one or both of these options completely erase the drive... it is my desired outcome)

  I'll give you a kudos to conclude that. It help to direct me to the real distinction.

  For all of you who are curious about the exact difference, here goes:

  Disk Sanitizer is an application that writes data to the disk hard (as shown in the table on page 6 of this document). According to this document, "the internal process of the U.S. Department of defense requires five cycles," but the former DoD 5220 graphic only ever talked about cycles 1 and 3. DoD 5220 has been replaced by the NIST 800 - 88 standard. Antibacterial disc discouraged with the solid state (SSD) drives since they have their own internal algorithm for wear leveling.

  Secure erase in line with the NIST 800-88 and is different in the fact that it is a command on the hard disk, and internal electronics of the drive do the wiping of the reader. It IS compatible with SSDS. Since it is an internal process for the hard drive, it is much faster than Disk Sanitizer.

  Bottom line is, unless your organization needs to join the 5220 old standard, use Secure Erase.

  I bought my work laptop from my employer. During the startup of my employer's legal name is still displayed on the splash screen ' "(the screen with the HP logo).

  I managed to change the line of text with the BiosConfigUtility64.exe.

  With "BiosConfigUtility64 getconfig:config.txt", you can write all the values in the bios and a text file with "BiosConfigUtility64 setconfig.config.txt", you can set all the values after you change the values you want to change. In my case, that I had to change the value of "property tag", which is the value that appears in the home screen during the boot process.

  Later, I discovered the tag 'property' can also be changed under the Security tab of the configuration of the BIOS (F10) normal... until I knew what the property tag, I associate the line of text to security so I did find the text before :-) field
