HP ENVY 15 t-K100 CTO: HP ENVY 15 t-K100 SSD upgrade

Hello everyone!

I want to upgrade to an SSD. I'm looking for other topics on the forum. I confuse myself now. A topic say my laptop have a port for ssd Sata m2 and another say not. Can someone give me the right information and tips.

My laptop touch screen, use 4th gen Intel Core i7-4510u, GTX 850 M, my motherboard is Hewlett-Packard 228D

Thank you!

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

I'm sorry to say that this thing is clear as mud. Your sharing his manual model with envy 17-inch and if you look at the hard drive options it says that only 17 inches can be configured with a normal hard drive and a drive of m2. However, if you enter the actual instructions there is no distinction other than to say the m2 is on some models. I am sure that we have the owners of the post 15-inch model here and even attach photos and even if the instructions you do switch the card system for access to the m2 slot, it's actually just above the hard drive Bay. What is clear is that you are trying to add that a reader m2 is not authorized end-user and is somewhat of a technical challenge.

So I'm afraid all I can tell based on the manual is there is probably a slot m2 in there, but it will mean almost complete disassembly of understand with certainty. I'm sorry.

    (model: 23-k001hk all-in-One)

Hello all - asking for suggestions advice from wise and kind people on the best way - and operating instructions - for upgrading the speed of my current hdisk 1 TB + SSD 16 GB cache scheme of HP storage by one of these itineraries:

    1) upgrade the disk installed cache 16 GB SSD mSATA disk (limit Intel RST) 64 GB mSATA

Why: I update regularly a slap (10-15GB) of data from the Agency.

so given that the daily volume of modified files is comparable to 16 GB,

I'm assuming that a larger cache will actually add value

    (2) install an SSD 'broad' to serve the main startup disk by replacing

the existing hdisk of 1 TB (I use a tiny fraction of it) with a 2.5 SSD "

with a suitable support (and deleting or disabling the 16 GB SSD disk cache)

Thanks in advance for any advice on this point, HP does not have any information on that, nor any obvious way to access or review the settings of the RST (firmware?) used in their SSDcache + hDisk arrangement (Yes, tried Ctrl-I, the boot, etc.-no joy).

    Hi WAWood,

A late thank you for your advice. Based on this feedback and having discovered just that software ExpressCache 'hidden' on my system quietly stopped working after the upgrade to Windows 10 (and HP support does not currently have updated software ExpressCache for Windows 10), I decided to install a large SSD drive and use it as a boot drive.

In the this could help other all-in-One HP Envy owners tilt, here is a summary of the steps that worked with obvious disclaimers that even if it worked for me, it is not a 'universal' solution and also that if you mess with the hardware/software of your system, you are of course on your own, without guarantees or responsibility for this author) :

(also, my apologies for the format - in a hurry)

    System:

HP Envy tilt (23-k001h model) running Windows 10

    Basic purpose:

    Change the original storage configuration:

Hdisk (boot drive) 1 TB + 16 GB mSATA SSD cache ("linked" to the hdisk via ExpressCache)

    TO:

Hdisk (spare drive) 1 TB + new Samsung Evo 850 mSATA SSD 500 GB (as boot drive)

    Result

Many, many "zippier" system: QuickStart, app launch, etc..

    Measures

    Disable ExpressCache

(HP Envy models tilt seem to use this supplement Windows 3 rd-party, instead of Intel RST):

In my case, as my recent visit to Windows 10 has taken care of this for me (haha), I don't have to do;  Otherwise, I guess we should stop the ExpressCache service, uninstall the software from ExpressCache and/or drivers, then reboot - suggest you only look it up in the forums, because I can't offer my own experience on this one.

Clear/unloading as much unnecessary data from drive C: (1 TB hdisk) as possible.

The goal would be to have used space on C: be greatly below your 500 GB (or other) new drive (in my case, I cut the used space on the C: 100 GB).

Also a good idea to run the defrag Windows on C:, as may be useful (necessary?) for the reduction of this partition in the next step

Disk management Windows allows you to shrink the Windows partition (mapped as C

Goal: you want a net size of all partitions on hdisk (Windows + hidden/recovery/system partitions) to be a little less than the actual size of your new SSD (my "500 GB" SSD was actually more as 465 GB)

Warning: disk management can claim "not enough space" to shrink Windows (C when it's clearly not partition so - in my case, the problem was due to my Windows partition is not the last partition on the disk before the unallocated space (if any) - obviously this disrupts the management of disks.)  If so, you need to move partitions using a 3rd party soft as AOMEI (free app - has worked well for me) all for the Windows partition is the last partition on the hdisk, with unallocated space located immediately after the Windows partition.

Result: when the dust settles, the partitions allocated on your hdisk must have a net size which is comfortably at less than the actual capacity of your new SSD (in my case, the partitions was 440 GB on a capacity 465 GB SSD).

    Physics card mSATA SSD upgrade

    • Power PC, unplug from the mains and remove the rear plastic cover:

  • Remove the metal shield covering the RAM:
  • Remove the metal shield covering the motherboard:
    • Locate/remove the 3 screws holding it down.
    • Lift on board as possible shielding at the booth of PC;
  • Locate the SSD of origin (see tiny map labeled as SanDisk or some of these) and remove 2 tiny screws to attach to the motherboard.
  • While keeping you constantly connected to the Earth (strap, touch metal chassis, etc.):
    • gently remove original SSD and save it in some static container (if upgrade fails and you want to restore the system to the original state of the material)
    • Gently insert the new card in lateral connector mSATA SSD,
    • and to the motherboard with the same 2 live
  • Replace the motherboard of armour, armour of RAM and plastic cover
  • Check the new SSD 'visible' to the BIOS:

At first startup, use ESC to enter the BIOS settings, then check that BIOS 'sees' the new SSD as the original hdisk

Clone all partitions on hdisk--> new SSD

Start & connect to Windows and use Macrium Reflect (free) to clone all the partitions on hdisk for the new SSD - see large portico advice to:

    http://www.howtogeek.com/199068/how-to-upgrade-your-existing-hard-drive-in-under-an-hour/

    Do not forget:

    • Suggestion from the link above, you must first a Macrium recovery disk
    • You can clone * all * the partitions on the SSD's original hdisk

Result: cloned partitions now visible on new SSD. may have little extra/no allocated space on SSD (can deal with that later)

In the BIOS change the boot to new SSD drive

Reboot PC, press ESC to enter the BIOS to change the boot order:

    • make the first boot drive in SSD
    • also suggest to disable booting from originals hdisk (night before you really start SSD)
    • Save the BIOS settings and exit the BIOS

Make sure that you have started of SSD and clean the unwanted drive mappings

    Start & log Windows

(the fact that you can reach this point means that you have passed the first test)

    Use Windows Disk Manager to

    * ensure that C: is mapped to your new SSD.

    * make sure that you can still see original hdisk, too

    * suggest remove you mappings of unnecessary letters drive

(with the exception of the C: drive!) for all other partitions on hdisk or SSD

    Test through full reboot

As a further test, do a reboot of Windows to make sure there are no problems with the start-up of SSD; again, once in Windows, use disk management to check again once your C: drive is the partition on the new SSD

    Optimizing Windows SSD

There are several Windows setting changes that you should do when your primary/boot disk is an SSD, either:

    • If you have purchased a Samsung SSD, you can download/use their app "Samsung magician" to do so (see "Optimization of OS" section), or
    • Google "Optimizing windows 10 ssd" to find any number of guides to achieve this, such as:
    • Note: one of the most important changes are those related to mode AHCI (ability to GARNISH)
    • Note: some suggested parameters cannot be 100% essential, for example:
      • pagefile on SSD: some authors suggest no page on the DSS file, others say "keep" small'(?) "; most compelling advice I've seen are to retain the page file on the SSD, but let Windows manage the size; in all cases, should make sure that your system has * sufficient * RAM (8 GB and more) for your usage requirements.
      • 'leave free space' (aka overprovisioning): SSD experts suggest that current-technology SSDS, it is not necessary
      • "do not defrag": 10 Windows recognizes SSD and disable defrag automatically

    All the problems?

Note that at this point, you still have your original hdisk with windows/data for a few days, so if this migration does not work, you can always go back by turning off the SSD and change the startup disk (in BIOS) originally hdisk

After a few days: some cleaning

When you are reasonably comfortable that your system is booting from SSD and Windows/apps work correctly, you can perform the following operations:

    • Use Macrium Reflect (free) or similar to save a snapshot of your current partition SSD
    • After the backup, delete old/unnecessary partitions on original hdisk. For some, drive management works; others may need to resort to using the command line program Admin "diskpart" (read the instructions carefully!) and use "Delete Partition Override" (be very sure that you have selected a partition on the * original hdisk * (IE, 'old'))
    • Disk management allows you to create a new simple volume on hdisk original now empty, as a reader of alternative utility
    • Regular backup of SSD Annex: SSDS, as with mechanical parts, will fail - it's only a matter of time. It 's going to happen. Thus, strongly suggest that you configure regular (daily) snapshots of your SSD partitions. Again, I use Macrium Reflect to do this with a full backup weekly + differential daily backups and save the images in the now empty original hdisk in the PC
    • If your SSD has any sense space not allocated, you may want to expand the Windows partition on the SSD drive use disk management to make use of this space

Please see the HP ENVY 17 - Maintenance and Service of Guide for all the different hard drive / SSD / mSata drive configurations that were available on these models. Almost any drive vendors will work on your computer and HP sources these parts from many manufacturers.

  • ENVY 17 t-k000 CTO: can I install an mSATA ssd in my HP ENVY 17 t-k000 CTO Notebook PC?

Can I install an mSATA ssd in my PC HP ENVY 17 t-k000 CTO Notebook? Added a SDS SATA 250 GB and 8 GB memory chip today but don't can find any way to add also a 250 GB mSATA SDS. I looked on the side in front and back of the system board.

I would return the mSATA EVO 840 Samsung SSD, I bought from Newegg?

The repair is no help whatsoever. It is said a WSSD m2 is supported 'model', but there is no picture of it in the manual or the indication when it is on the models 'select '. Those who have it use a version of m2 (connector three blades 2 not) so your Evo 840 would not work even if you had one of the models 'select '. I think that on those who have it that the port m2 is located on the motherboard so if you don't see it you are not among the selection.

Hello! I think to upgrade my HP ENVY dv6 Notebook PC (serial number: product [personal information deleted]: C2Y41AV) screen, hd version with a full hd variation and also a new backlid keyboard, the mine's regular keyboard. I don't want demolishing the pc to know that I ordered the parts and they are not compatible. I tried to get into the user part, but I get an error:

"Oops! . The Web page you requested on http://partsurfer.hp.com server may have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Alternatively, you have typed the address incorrectly. »

And cannot find the parts I wanto to replace, in the way I'm supposed to. I was able to do last week, but don't think that the page would come down so, I did not write the numbers down. I know that you are looking for parts was successful and I am in the list the regular parties as well as those that I want to upgrade the laptop with.  The problem is:

    (a) cannot determine the witch parts to order more.

    (b) in the page is not displayed if I buy other additional documents to those that I needed. IE: cables, etc.

    (c) where I can send the parts and where I can order and how to pay for them.

    (d) if there is a technician or a certified staff, I can contact for comprehensive services.

You see, the problem is I bought this laptop a long time ago, and already it got replaced due speaker and fan, so the warranty problems made me a new (this product). But I noticed 3 small details on the screen and not complained of the fact that I've already lost 3 months of work in addition to 1 job offer and did couldn t afford to keep so just used the laptop as if it were on vacacions unpayed.

Now, I thought to upgrade rather than buy the same hand he already has.

    TLDR

Need to know if my WANT of HP dv6 Notebook PC (serial number: 2CE3090ZS3 product: C2Y41AV) can be improved with the full keyboard apart and backlit ranging from hd without the need of other parts.

(can't post the parts I want to replace it because the part user gives an error {already posted})

  • 15 t K2T39AV envy: envy 15 t Touch Hardware Upgrade

A week ago I had just received my laptop touch HP Envy 15t, and someone in my family gave me a Samsung 850 EVO Sata3 ssd.

I undestand that if I open my laptop might void the warranty, is possible that I can get this installed without having to carry it out? I tried calling 3 people with "HP Certified" companies, but this directory is so ridiculously the outdated that none of the numbers worked.

Also, I noticed that this laptop is UNI-ish. Which makes it harder?

I also had the backlit keyboard, and many keys sporadically do not work unless I press extra hard. Is there a way to increase the sensitivity on this thing?

    Hello

    Your manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04510889

    It's your laptop: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-Notebook-PC-series/7527530/model/7757377/manuals

To replace the HARD drive, you can contact HP in your area: https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp/product/HP-ENVY-15-k200-Notebook-PC-series/7527530/model/7757377

Usually service center technicians would be able to do for your possibly free if you're under warranty, but it depends on how the service center who take up.

My HP Pavilion 15 HARD drive not was not customer accessible like yours, and HP guys helped me to go free, and I was under warranty.

See Page 63, 64 in your manual. It is not a DIY thing. You have to do a major disassembly to get out the replacement HARD drive. It will void the warranty if something unforeseen occurs following update yourself. So I'll try to contact HP directly to it.

About the keyboard, try to reload the default BIOS:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00034791

    Troubleshoot yourself keyboard first:
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03738933

If nothing works, updating the BIOS:
    http://support.HP.com/US-en/Product/HP-Envy-Notebook---15T-K200-CTO-(Energy-Star)/7527530/model/7757377/document/c00042629

Be very particular and follow the steps listed in the above document so that the update of BIOS, as if goes wrong it can brick your system down.

  • Recovery disks contradictory w / upgrade HP Envy 17 3D [HDD-> SSD]

    Hey everybody!

I have a HP ENVY 17 t - 1100 CTO 3D Edition laptop with Windows 7. He had two hard drives in it, 500 GB a piece. I just put the primary HDD with a SSD Samsung 840 Pro Series drive. Before I did the swap, I did recovery DVD from my system. I am able to get to the Manager of HP recovery during the boot sequence, but the ability to perform a factory reset is grayed out. Because I can not install my HP Win 7 DVD, so I did a fresh install of Windows 8.1 in the meantime. But I still prefer to use my recovery disks because the 3D work well with Windows 8.1. My drive is of type is Basic.

    Thank you

Recovery discs are usually working on a smaller than the original hdd. An option could be reducing the C partition on the original hdd to the SSD size and then clone it to the SSD.

Or - you can copy the folder the original hard drive on a DVD or a flash drive SwSetup, use the installation programs of the drivers/software on a clean install of Windows 7.

    =============================

If you can read the Microsoft Windows 7 of 25-character license key, you can download a Windows 7 ISO file to burn to a DVD or USB flash drive. The version must match that's installed on your PC as shown on the sticker COST Microsoft fixed on the bottom of the laptop. Like Windows Home Premium.

Hi all, I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade my memory of 8 GB to 16 GB. When I run SPeccy on my machine it says I can go to 16 and I have a free slot. In the manual it says my memory is expandable to 16 GB.

However, when I rang Mr. memory, as my model does not have on their website, they told me I had only a slit and Speccy is often wrong on this issue.

    HI @jammydodger,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

It's a great place to find answers and advice!

You have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to draw your attention to the HP Guide's Forums:

Learn how to post and more

I understand that you want to know if your computer supports 16 GB of memory.  According to HP ENVY Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide of m6 , you have two slots and it will support up to 16 GB.  Please note page 1, Chapter 1, memory. You have two memory off-limits/extendable module slots.  If you are in warranty, you need to have a certified technician RESUME will do the upgrade to do not void the warranty.  If you do not guarantee a local store can do the upgrade or you can make the update yourself if you feel comfortable, but it would be at your peril.

See also Chapter 3, page 16, section 13 for recommended memory.

I hope that this is clear to the top and confusion for you.

  • HP Envy 15 t-j000 with ssd upgrade

Hi all, I'm from outside the United States and I will be the week next to the United States and I want to buy an SSD for my HP Envy 15 t-j000, is to have 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB 5400 RPM hybrid disc, what do you recommend? Your help is very appreciated.

    Kind regards

    acmesoft

You may not use any mSATA SSD. The purpose of the mSATA SSD is as a cache drive configured with the software Intel IRST. It will not replace the primary hard drive.

What you need is a SATA SSD to replace your hard drive (legacy) of spinner with. Here is a great article on the How to geek about why you should switch to an SSD.

The article contains information on the best ways to accomplish the task, including links to software for cloning. I highly recommend buying an SSD as a migration kit. The kits include a usb to SATA cable and software for cloning. Who will do the simple upgrade.

Here is the guide to maintenance and Service for your laptop. The hard drive is a customer service unit. There on page 47 for instructions that explain how to remove and replace the hard drive.

SODIMM two slots in the brackets support DDR3L - 1600 MHz Dual Channel up to 16 GB of RAM in the following configurations:

So yes, you can install a 2nd module of 8 GB for a total of 16 concerts.

    Memory module (PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz, shared): 8 GB 693374-005

  • Envy 17-n111tx: Envy 17-n111tx HDD/SSD Configuration

    Hello

I'm new to this Yes please forgive my ignorance. My new Envy 17 - n111tx is about to happen, and from what I understand, I'm able to add an extra storage device in the optical drive Bay.

I would like to replace one of the hard drives of 2 TB with an SSD (Crucial MX200 250 GB) and then put the HARD drive in the optical drive Bay.

    Here are my questions:
    1. what kind of SSD do I need, the 2.5 "or M2?
2 should I all media for this?
3 I need supports when installing the HARD disk in the optical drive Bay?
    4. among the two hard drives of 2 TB, which is installed the OS on?

    Thanks for your help

    Kam124,

I have found some additional reading for you - on the "Equipment and upgrade" section of this forum.

In the "Discussion forums" (upper left corner), select "Notebook Hardware Upgrade issues and.

Next - search once you're in the hardware section - 'HP 17 n' which will take you to tread:

Re: HP Envy 17 n-000, also known as the M8W99AV_1

This discussion (with photos), this is what you are needing to know the upgrade of your system - the only difference is, you already have the hard-drive-kit (hardware) they discuss.  So you will not need to be overly concerned about adding 2nd HARD drive - but it is interesting to read.

The photos included - must be exactly what your system will look-very neat - and easy to upgrade.

ATTENTION: There is a link to youtube (on page 5) about how to add a 2nd HDD to an Envy 17 - this does NOT apply to your odel - is a portable 17 alumni.

Some centers of discussion on the SSD m2 - I have not looked at all this discussion - but I'm sure it will be interesting.

    Hope this helps,

    LaptopJack
