HP ENVY 17-j165eo SSD

Hello

I want to buy HP ENVY 17-j165eo (touchsmart) with 1 TB hard drive and replace it with primary 256 GB SSD. I have not found any information on this model here, forums. It work? Seems that HP supports only ordinary 5400 RPM SATA drives. Must it be SATA SSD 600 or what works exactly? SSD should be cloned, hope to make it work without previous software, Wondows 8.1 only.

Best regards

    Hello

Really hard to find all the information on the net regarding this laptop (no reviews, no tweaks etc.). Again I would buy the desire because of his good record. However only if the following can be done:

Replace the HARD drive internal 1 TB per a DDI, preferably a Samsung 840 EVO Series 250 Gb.

If so, can you just plug in, or do you need to support etc. Anyone who has done this before?

    Thank you

    Hello SebastiaanB,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the Forums of HP, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

I understand that you are looking to put a 256 GB SSD in the HP ENVY 15-j030eb. I'd be happy to help you with this. I'm you provide a link to the HP Support document: PC portable HP ENVY 15 and HP ENVY TouchSmart 15 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service of Guide. If you look on page 5 you will see that the HP ENVY 15 laptop only supports an SSD 24 GB mSATA, your wanting to install the 256 GB it would not work. What you would end up with, it's either the BIOS would not see the drive at all or it would be very slow and you would lose any benefits that you would get to use an SSD.

To answer your second question in the guide even if you go to page 44, you will see instructions on how to install an SSD in your laptop.

I hope that I have answered your questions to your satisfaction. Thanks for posting about these issues on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • HP ENVY 15-j040sr: HP ENVY 15-j040sr SSD

Hey! I ENVY 15-j040 and want to upgrade with SSD. Could you please answer if I have a chance to add (preferable) or replace the hard drive? What type of SSD is supported? Thanks in advance.

See p. 47 of the manual here:

    Manual

Your laptop has a slot mSATA for the WSSD of older form factor, but this device can only be used in conjunction with a mechanical hard disk as a cache of acceleration Intel Rapid Storage. It is not bootable, unless it's the only hard drive in the computer. Even in this case, the speed of the mSATA of this type is not faster that a SATA 2.5 inch SSD, and the latter are cheaper and easier to find in usable formats. So, your best option is to replace the mechanical drive 5400 RPM with a SSD 2.5 inch SATA-III and my suggestion is always the Samsung 850 Evo.

  • HP ENVY 17-j006ea SSD Upgrade - necessary caddy?

    Hello

My model (HP ENVY 17-j006ea) came with two hard drives. I use the primary for windows and only for programs and I would like to replace it with an SSD.

Do I need to buy a Bay secondary adaptar - or can I use the same parts that are currently used for my main drive?

    Thank you very much

You have 2 Bay adapters for 2 hard drives. You can use an SSD in the adapter currently used for the main drive. The model of hole and the location of the SATA connectors is the same. Bay primary and secondary adapters are a little different and not interchangeable, but if you have one of each, you have everything you need. Post back with more questions.

  • Envy 15 as020nr: SSD upgrade

I want to upgrade the m2 SSD in my desire of greater size. How do I access the drive?

    Hello

The following link shows the specifications of your computer:

    Please use the following Manual:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c05128309.PDF

Page 33, the book will tell you the right part number and how to replace M.2 SSD

Few people said they could use more big (capacity up to 1 TB) but to be sure only uses one on the manual or use Device Manager to find the right brand and buy the same (largest 512GB). I think it is SanDisk (my loan machine is) but please check before you buy.

    Kind regards.

    Hi all

I bought the HP Envy 15-k153nr. I read somewhere that he had free internal interface of m2, I want to install the SSD in this interface. But I do not know the length of the card SSD, it can adapt. Can I install 80 mm long SSD? I can't find this information on the HP site. I hope someone knows the answer.

    Hello

It has a slot for 2280 m2 SSD, which means you can use 80 mm long.

  • HP Envy 17-j053 SSD update

    Hi all

As I bought a HP Envy 17-j053 laptop from Currys/PC World (UK) and I know that my laptop has a second hard drive Bay. I think that the performance of my laptop are strongly a bottleneck of slow hard disk 5400 RPM HP put in it, so I looked in the addition of an SSD.

I found the cable and box rubber on Amazon for a total tear of £60 and I found the SSD that I want to install (840 Pro 256 GB Samsung).

Question is the laptop won't work with the SSD in HDD1 (as the boot drive (windows 8.1 & programs)) and the 1 TB in HDD2 as a data disc?

I'm sorry I missed it. It won't cause any problems. I have a very similar model... 17 t-j029nr envy and have used it with a SSD in primary and secondary and no problem at all. In my humble opinion, it's how it should be implemented... SSD in the main housing and the big slow spinner only for storage.

  • HP Envy 17 n103la: SSD m2

Hi, I wonder if I can add a SSD m2 on my laptop (HP Envy 17 - n103la) as boot drive while having my 1 TB HARD drive too

    Hello

On page 2 of the Guide Service and Maintenance on the following link tells your machine may have the double storage option:

    Double storage configurations:

    ● 1 TB + 256 GB SSD SATA M2 (TLC)

    ● 4-TB: 2 TB (5400 RPM) x 2

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-envy-17-notebook-PC-series/8499288/model/9088687/manuals

The answer is Yes. Please read the manual and get more information.

Pleasew Note: this work is intended to only authorized service provider parts implying you void the warranty if something was wrong. Why you did not order option 1 in the first place, much less expensive and safer.

    Kind regards.

  • HP Envy 15-k220nr: updated HP Envy 15-k220nr SSD m2

Good people of HP support forum,

I have a portable Envy that came with 1 TB of HARD drive and is now a bit slow for me. I'm looking for in the options of upgrade "regular" SSD for about $150, but that requires me to make a compromise on the storage capacity. I thought to add a SSD M.2 and keep my HARD drive installed, but I don't know if there is slot for m2. Can someone help me?

Support for my laptop page lists "generic" repair for Envy 17, Envy 15, and even if it adheres to most of the things on my model, "m2 support is optional. Speccy lists available PCI slot but I don't know if that's all.

Or I have to disassemble the jury to be sure? (not an easy task if you ask me and I already changed the WiFi module myself).

    Thank you guys

I disassembled the laptop completely to add more RAM and have checked there No. M.2 slot. The space is for him next to the RAM slots, there is impression on the jury, but no connector is welded.

I have to be happy with a hard drive.

  • Envy dv7t-7200: SSD upgrade in 2nd slot on HP Envy dv7t-7200. Cannot find or run the Bios

So I added recently internal a second drive in my HP Envy dv7t-7200 because she had a second slot. The first was a 1 TB HARD drive and what I added is a compatible 500 GB SSD from Crucial. At startup, the SSD was not recognized as I can't find anywhere in my computer to use. Also, I tried to go into the BIOS to see if the second part of the motherboard to the drive 2nd spot has been activated but now the computer starts too fast and I can't enter the BIOS. Given that nothing is installed on disk 2, I have no idea why the computer starts much faster. Would it be due a QuickLaunch for the BIOS update can I have recently installed? If so, how to uninstall that?

I also wanted to just insisted on my laptop as possible and that's why I decided to upgrade, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A new empty ssd drive will not be displayed in my computer (PC), until the disk is initialized and formatted. Right-click on computer and choose manage... disk management and see if there is a new blank disc. If so create a new volume in it (partition) then format then assign a drive letter.

You want to have the OS on the SSD and have it in the main location as only a car in this slot is bootable. You lose the speed of the SSD in the second location for pure storage. As hanging Secretariat up to a plow.

  • HP envy m6-1125dx: ssd msata on HP ENVY M6-1125DX

Hi HP! I am a customer who uses an Hp product, have a laptop model HP ENVY M6-1125dx. I asked about this hardware upgrade thing. My problem is that I see a mini PCI - Ex right next to my Wifi card slot, so I take a look at the manual and his told me that my laptop can be upgraded to a 32 GB MSATA SSD (cause is using my laptop intel i5 - 3210 m chip). I would like to ask if I may or may not be upgraded more than 32 GB ssd, what the textbook says. Ex: I want to upgrade to ssd 128 GB msata. Is this possible? And what would happen if I switch to ssd 128 GB msata through mini PCI - Ex. thank you!

The 32 GB mSATA ssd is intended to be used by the software Intel IRST.

You can add a higher capacity SSDS mSATA and use it as storage or even boot into an operating system with him. If you do this, do not use the Intel IRST software because it will use part of the SSD for the cache and the rest will not be usable.

  • HP Envy 17-J000eb: update of HP Envy 17-J000eb SSD

    Hello

my HP laptop is about 1.5 years now, and I would like to replace my old 1 TB HDD with a SSD (to start windows) while keeping the old HDD in my laptop as a secondary drive. However, I read that for some laptops, it is not possible to change the primary HDD with a SSD, which means that the SSD can be used only as a secondary.

Is someone can you please tell me if this is correct? And if it is possible to change for one SSD HARD drive, which should I use? I guess that around 256 GB should be sufficient for the SSD, something like the MX100 Crucial 256 GB SDD for example. Or suggestions for a better alternative?

    Thanks in advance,

    Kind regards

It is better to SSDS as boot drive primary Bay itself to get the best performance out of it.

Buy a brand 2.5 inch SATA 7 mm internal thickness for laptop SSD. I don't know about the reliability of the Crucial SSD. But the Evo of 840 Samsung SSD in my Pavilion 15A did an outstanding job for me.

You can clone HARD drive SSD (only USED total capacity if, if the HARD disk is less than the total capacity of the HARD drive). You can spend all your videos, images etc to another external drive temporarily and start cloning before replacement.
Later, move them back to the HARD disk, put in the secondary data storage Bay.

I have a 14-k124TX currently Envy and you want to upgrade the disk SSD 128 GB to 500 GB.
