  • Updates to Windows after the restoration of the system

Yesterday morning I tried to turn my computer laptop sony vaio (vista 32 bit) and received an error message saying that unable to start Windows.  I finally had to do a system restore complete (fortunately I was able to save my files personal & photos) after having exhausted all other options.  What a mess!  Here's the problem: running Windows update there are 71 important updates being downloaded, but I don't see anything on SP1 or SP2.  Most of the updates are "security update for vista."  I don't see updates for SP2 components.

Should I install the updates that my computer downloads or should I first install SP1 and 2 via the microsoft Web site?  I really don't need more computer problems right now.  I apologize if someone has already asked this question, I tried to search before posting.

Yes, that's the way it should be done. In fact, you will need to run several update scans to get SP1 and 2 and current.  There is usually at least some mandatory pre-required updates that must be installed before a SP.

Yes, it is long and slow and painful. It's 'the joy of Windows '... (smile). It is also why, after you get windows patches to update you should make a backup copy of full Image (actually more that one is a good idea) using a tool that runs from a bootable CD/DVD.  In this way, in the future, you'll have a recovery point that will work around this pain. I also like to make another copy of the image after you have reinstalled all my basic applications, such as office and public services.

I also suggest that it is a good time to consider to repartition your hard drive. Minimum partitioning that I love, this is C: for the operating system and applications and a separate drive D: for "personal" data files In this way when you need to re - install windoze once again it's less traumatic. In fact, I have my personal folders 'Profile' redirected to the data reader. Even if I can not not reuse in the re-installation of things like the old office are always there to return.

    Hello

Well, Stefan has suggested that the recovery CD is corrupt, but for me it s does not erase if you used a recovery CD or the Microsoft Windows CD.
    What did you use?

I think that the recovery CD should be corrupted and it works without any problem.
You format the HARD drive correctly? Otherwise, do it first and delete all partitions and try reinstalling the operating system.

  • Vista asks to activate and insert the restore disc. SE message at the bottom of the screen: "this copy of Windows is not genuine".

    Original title: corrupt Windows Vista

I have vista business and I think he got corrupted when I went overseas. Now it asks me always to activate and insert the restore disc but I've mislaid and cannot locate my restore disk. Also on the bottom, it indicates that this copy of windows is not genuine? Please help anyone on how I can restore this back to the original.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello

There are several methods to reinstall Vista.

    See which way suits you.

There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

And if you have never received a recovery disk when you bought your computer, there should be a recovery Partition on the hard drive to reinstall Vista on how you purchased your computer.

The recovery process can be started by pressing a particular combination of the key or keys at startup. (Power on / start)

    Maybe it's F10, F11, Alt + F10, etc., depending on the manufacturer.

Ask them to the proper key sequence.

And if you do not score a manufacturer of recovery on your hard drive, you should be able to make your own recovery from her disks to reinstall the operating system.

Go to programs > name of the manufacturer of your computer > then their system or recovery tools software topics for them, depending on how it is formulated.

If you can't find any reference to it, contact the manufacturer for advice on how to make these recovery disks.

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And once the operating system is installed, go to your computer manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers for your particular model or laptop computer.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '

The upper part is about 4 "high, followed by a seam, then the site itself. Resizing can completely eliminate the useful portion--unable to shrink beyond the joint.

  • Explorer.EXE error after the restoration of the ERD Commander

    Dell Inspiron B130

    Windows XP Service Pack 2

Recently performed a HD format and new installation of XP SP2. After I installed all the drivers and others, I checked that the system was operating normally. After a few days of use, Windows Update downloaded Service Pack 3 and asked me to install. I started to install SP3, but at about 50%, the laptop battery is dead at Midway through the installation. I plugged the laptop on the power source and power. I restarted the laptop and XP started only a completely black screen and the white slider. No ALT + CTRL + DEL, desktop icons, etc.

I rebooted the laptop of ERD Commander, ran the restore system and selected the first available Restore Point. Point of restoration chosen was recorded a few days before, and was the first recorded point after the clean installed XP. I rebooted the XP system. Wallpaper loaded with white cursor, but NO start menu or desktop icon. A message appears saying "Explorer.EXE Application error, press OK to exit the application" or something very similar. Did not write the error code, but can get if necessary. If I press the OK button (which is my only option), there is still no icons on the desktop or the start menu. Only the cursor. No access ALT + CTRL + DELETE or something like that.

Thinking about completely wipe the system and reinstalls the operating system. Any suggestions before I jump in this solution?

Explorer.EXE error after the Restore Point of ERD Commander. Dell Inspiron B130. Recently clean installed XP SP2 on laptop. Installation of SP3, to 50%, battery dies the laptop right in the middle of the installation of the SP3 update. Restarted, XP starts with black screen with cursor only. ERD restart order and restore XP to the last known good config (I choose point immediately after XP clean install). Reboot to XP. Now the wallpaper shows as well as the error message saying "Explorer.exe Application error, click OK to exit Explorer" dialog and then I can't access anything. Any ideas?

    Hello

What is the full and exact error message?

Step 1: Check if you are able to boot into safe mode without any problem. If you are able to boot into safe mode without any problems then try to perform the clean boot to safe mode. Also disconnect any external devices connected to the computer.

  • How can I activate XP after the expiry of the grace period of 7 days?

A couple of weeks, my PC (home built with XP Pro OEM) downloaded a load of updates through Windows Update.

This weekend was the first time that I had turned it on since then, and the logon screen XP tells me now that XP is not active any longer.  I guess that's probably because it updates has been for the Mo (he forced a reactivation of the last time, I downloaded manually the latest drivers from MB a couple of years).

The problem I have it when I click on one of the user accounts to log on, it opens a window of 'Activation' and then does nothing.  I guess he's trying to connect to internet, but it does not have an impact on my wireless router (no flashing lights).  I tried this wiring in the router, but it does exactly the same thing.  The "activation window will sit quite happily there doing nothing for 24 hours."  No information is provided on the 'Activate' window and the only button is close 'x' in the upper right corner - by clicking on this takes me bag to the opening screen of session where all I can do is click on a user account with the same result, or click "close".

IIRC last time I had to re-activate failed when I tried to do this online and I had to do it by phone - but it doesn't seem to be an option now.

    How to solve this please?

she rarely does and I ran a comprehensive analysis of McAfee and it seems ok - unless you can advise of another analysis to run?

Well, certainly follow the suggestions of Christmas. If your question is simply a need to save script .dll files, you are probably in much better shape than I thought.
However, you can never be too safe when it comes to malware. McAfee is generally frowned upon in this forum. There are many things that it is not simply to catch.
I think that the page of Brian here:
... is a great resource. At the very least, you must run MBAM!
