  The function keys are controlled by the manufacturer of the system. The changes must be made in the BIOS (Basic Input Output System). I suggest you to contact the manufacturer of the system to better support.

  This is VERY wrong. You can turn them off. So this help someone else who has this problem, you go to the Bios settings... Change the key priority of function... and restart. Vola!

  I have a HP Pavilion G7 - 2551dx with Windows 8.

  It worked for my problem BUT I almost didn't try because it is very misleading and very badly written.

  You see, it has never been necessary for me to hold and press the Fn button to use the default function keys (so why would I need to use the option above as written - I wouldn't). This makes you only believe that it turns on or off the ability to use the function keys to use the Fn key in conjunction with the 1 to 12 function keys - and not the function keys do not work.   Solution!

  I found the Microsoft Key and certificate of authenticity of green under the bottom of the plastic case. This case has been deleted by pressing the orange button plastic under the battery.
