HP Pavilion A6750F Windows 7 SP1 cannot write on a CD - R

I have recently upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Vista SP1.  Everything seemed to work, including optical drives - a HP DVD Writer 1070r that was added to the original HP HL-DT-ST DVD - RAM GH15L when I bought the system.  Now, neither drive can write CD media (writing DVD - RW seems to be fine).  If I use Power2Go, it writes the data but sticks to 99% when he says he's trying to write the session data.  If I try writing of database Win 7 disk, he comes back and says it is unable to complete the format.  Readers to read the CD & DVD very well.

Previously, I have improved programs HP (Power2Go, etc.) for Win 7 compatible versions and applied all the others of HP as BIOS and disk hard firmware upgrades.  I tried the MS Fixit program and uninstall the disks with Device Manager to force the re installation of the driver.  Because the two discs has exactly the same, it is clearly a matter of Win 7 vs HP and not a problem of individual player.

Any ideas?  Thank you!

Thank you, Travis.  As I said in my 2nd paragraph, I already tried Microsoft Fixit Tool - didn't work.  I had previously applied all updates of HP and they did not help either.  Maybe you didn't notice that I had several programs fail on two completely different optical drives - which is a very good indication that fault of software and not a single point like a laser or optical misalignment, is the problem.  I am a digital hardware engineer with decades of experience in debugging of system...

In fact, it was a software problem.  I've updated the software RAID AMD - there was an update it out about 2 weeks after that I started having the problem.  Problem solved--except for Quicken 2012 which seems to have its own problems with CD - RW from what I've seen on other sites.  I thought to get rid of the RAID stuff, which I don't use really not now, but since positions online that I saw, is not worth the hassle.

Thanks for trying, even if...

  • After the format of my old PC windows xp sp1 cannot be updated

I just formatted my HP PC. Once I used the original disk to format the PC. Now, my PC looks like new. But I can not activate the automatic updates from microsoft. I'm basically a mechanical engineer. I don't know much about computers. I really surprised, I cannot even update my internet explore and can not see the automatic updates of windows. My version of internet explore now shows 6. Its very old. Now update my PC as the latest version of Windows XP. Help, please. My specifications is using MS windows XP Edition version 2002 service Pack 1 family. Mine is HP Pavilion Intel (r) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 3.00 Hz 256 MB of Ram.  So please help me how to upgrade my PC. Thank you. Shankar.

Manually download Service Pack 2 and Service Pack 3 and install them in this order.  Here are the links to download these service packs as stand-alone install packages:

    SP2: <> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28 >

    SP3: <> http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=24 >

If you are unable to download to your computer, try to download from another machine and moving them to your machine to a USB or Flash drive.  Once you're up to SP3, maybe that automatic updates work better.

Note that 256 MB of RAM is maybe not enough for Windows XP to perform satisfactorily.  You should consider an upgrade of RAM if you plan to keep the machine.

  • Cannot run Windows 7 SP1 on big HDD (1 TB)

    Hello

I just realized about this very recent which is apparently now closed:

    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=275105

I had same problem with a Toshiba 1 TB drive - I lost on that day and tried at least 10 Windows 7 installs with various behaviours/settings/partitions and still the same result. Cannot run Windows Update.

I also tried to install Windows 7 SP1 from a DVD and have failed with a catastrophic mistake. I also tried to reformat the disk, the WIndows repair tool (ha!) update and installation when you're standing on my head while reciting the works of Shakespear.

I gave up in the end and decided to NOT use it as a system disk at all. Instead, I installed Windows 7 on a smaller drive and uses the 1 TB and successfully as a secondary on the same PC drive with a single partition of 1 TB.

I'm likely to have problems - maybe when the player is more complete and if I might be wise to split into 2 or more partitions?

I just bought the drive so I can send it if it's going to be a waste of time.

    Thank you very much.

And what model of Toshiba laptop do you have?

  • CANNOT write to files in the shared folder of XP on a PC running windows 7 - but good vice versa

I have a laptop under Windows 7 (SP1) and a desktop running XP (SP3).  I have connected both via a wireless network. While I can see and access shared files/folders from one computer to the other computer, I can only read/write files in the shared folder on the portable computer that is running Windows 7.

If I try and change a file in the shared folder from the PC under XP on my laptop, I get the message "this file is set to read-only. Try again with a different name "."  I know that the file is NOT checked for read-only. When I change the name of the file I get the error message "\\Desktop\SharedDocs\filename.doc you are not allowed to save in this location. Contact the administrator for approval.  You want to save in the folder my documents instead? "If I save the file to another location on the laptop under Win7 it save then OK.  I can not just save a modified version of the file in the same shared folder from desktop running XP.
It seems that it must be something to do with permissions and access to the parameters of the desktop running XP but I can not find these. Fairly easy to find in Windows 7.
Finally, I don't have a login/password set for the connection to the computer to Office XP.  I don't have a user name and password for the laptop Win7 but you have turned off password protected sharing.
Anyone have a solution to this?
    Thank you

OK - the problem is now resolved.

I noticed that the read-only for the shared folder has been checked. When I unchecked it and also checked the box "allow network users to change my files" in the shared folder properties/sharing, I was able to modify and save files in the shared folder on my laptop.
It's a little weird because I thought I had done this the other day where the results have been less successful.  Strange.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Pavilion dm4 - 1201us: upgrade to Windows 10 with a computer that refuses to install Windows 7 SP1

I would like to be able to update my old laptop W7 with W10, however, I am unable to do so, due to the fact that after replacing the hard drive, then allowing a 'grumpy' friend to manage the installation of the OS, I'm unable to install SP1 that is required for the free update.

    Any help?

Other information: the laptop came originally with "Windows 7 Home Prem OA" but is now underway "Windows 7 Unlimate" and I have no recovery disk for the original W7 supplied with the machine.

EDIT: Also, when I run Windows Update, SP1 or in a separate file, I get the same error. Here is a picture of the error of the SP1 folder.

Unfortunately, it seems that your hacker friend installed an improved version of Windows 7 and now it is not authentic so it will not be updated.

You can try the suggestions in this post from TechNet and see if you can correct it. I used your error message to find this info.

If you are not successful this, then you should contact HP to get reinstall disks so that you can install the version of Windows 7 OEM. You will have to do all the updates, but it should be able to do.

Unless you have an email or a packaging of retail with an improved version of Windows and a key, you will encounter this kind of problem. The version of your operating system must match the key you have.

  • Cannot be re-installed Windows XP SP1 is connected to the internet.

After spending several hours and several attempts with different people involved repairing a corrupted file hive, I recently punted and reloaded WinXP (after all my user data off the drive from another machine of traction).  I use a D-Link router that is always connected to a cable modem.  It works great because I always have wireless access for my laptop.  The problem is that I can't get the PC with Windows XP SP1, connected to the network through the router.  I even tried to bypass the router and connect direct from cable modem connection.  When I try the Connection Wizard, it doesn't give me any errors, but it is not also set up a new connection.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

  • DNS error - IE cannot connect to the Internet - Windows XP SP1 :(

I'm trying to help my brother. We have a Dell Dimension 3000 running Windows XP SP1. The computer has a virus, and a clean installation was completed. That is why, it is show SP1 now that those were records. Everything seems to be OK until trying to connect to the Internet (there's currently IE6). From message which can not find the DNS server.

I've done several things already including cleaning winsock and winsock2 and reinstall TCP/IP. Manager of network devices is here. I get a ping to the IP address 169.meta XXX but no ping at all outside the site.

I went into Internet Options menu. I'm lost what to try next. Help!

    Thank you.

    Joelkaghami,

Ok. Let me clarify a point. My brother lives in a different House, further away from me. I have the Dell Dimension now home trying to get updated, he had a virus and system has been reloaded. But he was only SP1. I know it will take forever to download and update the machine through dial-up and the disc, he got the ISP did not recognize IE6.

So, to help my brother, I brought the computer to my house I have a DSL network and I was going to the network it and then do the automatic updates to update the system here and then give it to him. However, I could not the computer to communicate with my network.

OK, that makes more sense to me; Please specify.

In the meantime, I downloaded the SP2, SP3 (still need to install this one as stated above) and IE8 on the site of MS. I have have updated the computer, but still can not communicate with my network. And that is why I am asking about the modem ISP connection. I thought just update with SP3 and then ship back to his house and let him try the ISP software. It might just make him go.

    Good.

In my view, sp3 includes a newer IE, but I'm not sure.

Anyway, if you want you can download the updates, and then copy them to the dell.

    1. go on a computer that can go on the internet.

    2. download the updates on the hard drive.

    3. copy the updates to the dell via USB key, cd, dvd, etc.

Here is a link to download a newer IE:

So that's the story. Sorry if I confused you sooner.

No prob.  I really wanted to hear that the dell works and can get on the internet.
