HP PAVILION H8 - 1280t: backup on another PC hard drive.

I have to return my computer to HP.  Before I do, I want to remove the hard drive and connect it to my new computer and back up all my files.

Can someone tell me the settings/connector on the hard drive?  I know that it is must be configured as a secondary hard drive, and I think it means it must be defined as a slave.  I also know that the jumpers on the hard drive set as slave used as a configuration.

Advice would be appreciated.  I think than tht I have 48 to 96 hours for this task.

Configuration jumpers

CAUTION:

Don't change any rider when the computer is turned on. May damage the motherboard.

Clear the CMOS settings

This motherboard has a jumper to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in the CMOS.

  1. Turn off the computer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Move the jumper to clear for 5 to 10 seconds, then move the jumper to return by default.
  3. Plug the power cord and turn on the computer.
  4. At the next boot, enter the BIOS to re - enter the user parameters.

Erase PASSWORD settings

The BIOS password is used to protect the settings of the BIOS against unwanted changes.

To clear the password BIOS follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Move the Clear jumper.
  3. Turn on the computer to POST screen
  4. Turn off the computer.
  5. Move the jumper to the default return
  6. Enter the BIOS to check or set the new settings

If the host computer does not start, it's a maybe clone, depending on the reason for the "no boot".  If it's because of a hardware problem, so it might still work, but the best way is to use another computer and connect the hard drive to the PC using an external adapter USB to SATA, THE problem: http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-A12940-Drive-Adapter-Converter/dp/B001OORMVQ

Then clone it on an external hard drive or use software backup, or both, just to be sure.  You said that there is an another computer available, then go ahead.

Hoping someone can explain to me how to copy a backup of one hard external to another.  I managed to make a complete backup of the old iMac, my sister just before he died.  The backup is located on a WD My Passport for Mac and I would like to copy the backup to another external hard drive, maintaining the original on My Passport for Mac, just to keep safe in the event of failure of one of the external drives.  This backup contains the only copy of hundreds of pictures.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    1. Yes, but you shouldn't. Your working data and backups must be on separate drives in case one of them goes down.

    2. Time Machine will not erase the data it did not originally there.

  • Restore the backup to an external hard drive

original title: if I reinstall my Vista, how to make the backup on an external hard drive? Is it a procedure drag-and - déposer? I use a Seagate external hard drive and there is no help section.

Have run the back up to the external hard drive, I would like to know how to use it when I reinstall Vista Home Premium system.

Also, I tried to check the hard disk for errors, and he has not finished the event.

Assuming that you used the backup of Vista and made program a full backup and not an image backup (although some of these procedures include the restoration of a full image backup), here is some information to help you restore data.  Try to read or at least most of the analytical documents before you start, so you get a good understanding of the process and the procedures involved.  Restoring from an external hard drive is a little different from restoring a secondary internal hard drive, CD/DVD or Flash drive or on the network (although quite close to the procedure of network). If you have used the Vista backup program, you can not restore using drag-and-drop - you must use Vista restore program.

Here is an article on the restore procedure:http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-files to make sure you do this right.  It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a full restore from a full backup) - but since you did a full backup, it matches your process more closely than would a full restore.

This is a GREAT article on the backup and restore processes in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspx , but he won't go into detail about the restoration process - considering almost as easy, of course.  But it teaches you a lot about what is possible and how to do it.  It also focuses primarily on the full backup process, but he did mention the full backup and restore process as well.

Here is an article on the advanced use of restoration (during normal restore does not work):http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

I also found the following (but don't know if it of true or not):

    1. after the start of "backup and Restore Center."

    2. I chose "Advanced Restore"

    3. I was did not an administrator password... maybe because my account is an administrator account.

4 choose "files from a backup made on a different computer.

    5. in the dialog box indicating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "hard drive, CD or DVD...". »

    6. under the drop-down list box, select your drive/partition and continue

    7. If all the backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.

    8. in my case, he showed a backup, but in the backup location, it will show "backup location is not available."

    9. I was frustrated, but then I somehow just select this backup (Yes... even if he said that thebackup location is not available " ")

    10. and you press "next".

    11 guess what... no error!

    12. a window appeared asking me if I wanted to do a full restore, or I want to select specific folders or files.

    13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo... it their restored smoothly.

    14. so that the next time see a mistake, try to continue with him... ;)

I don't know if this will help, but it does not provide much information about the process (when it works and even when it does not).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • I get the 0x8078012D error code when I run the Windows backup on an external hard drive.

I get the 0x8078012D error code when I run the Windows backup on an external hard drive.  I have Windows 7 Professional.  That suggests this error code is the problem and how can I solve the problem?

For people who read this thread, I offer the following information.  I solved the problem by noticing that the problem could have been caused, when the system image is created.  So I did a backup without creating the system image and backup is complete without error.

Then I used the backup program to create a system image.  This time error (0x8007045D) was displayed.   The error report says "the operation failed for a device error encountered with the source or the destination. If the volume of the source or the destination is on a disk, run CHKDSK /R on the source volume or destination and then try again using. »

So I ran chkdsk/r, and this program is a bad sector on the hard drive of my computer and fixed the error.  It took about an hour to run the program.  Now, the image of the system and the backup of data file work again.

So I think that the main cause of error (0x8078012D) is deborahgarbe of i/o error (0x8007045D).  So if you get the first error code you can search for fixes for the second error code fix the root cause.

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 and my agreement now bad hard drive to the Geek squad. My problem is that I'm not able to find my recovery disc and HP has no more of them. Do you know where I could buy the recovery disk?

    The official win7 ISO images can be downloaded here;

    http://www.w7forums.com/official-Windows-7-SP1-ISO-image-downloads-t12325.html

You download the version installed on your HP, burn a dvd using ISO, software, the burning at the slowest speed, on quality discs, then install it using the Win Key on the label on your PC.

You will then need to install specific drivers of HP, not of the preinstalled HP software will be at your disposal

Hello 88feederups, apparently, your only recourse is to press F-7 to continue and see if the system boots to the desktop.

If you manage to get to the desktop, I suggest trying to backup your important data and make sure you have a version of Windows XP. You must also consider finding a new hard drive.

The failed Test Smart can be a reason for the hard drive do not completely, if not already.

Here is the link for the specifications of your system and it shows the system comes with a hard drive of 160 GB Ultra DMA.

It is a type IDE ATA hard drive and not the new kind of Sata.

I've had this laptop since around to last August and so far he has played normally without any problems. However, this morning the phone became unusable as it would freeze whenever I tried to open anything after the start. Because I could not activate McAfee security, which I do have but have had disabled for almost a month or two because he slowed a little games I rarely use all dangerous Web sites, I have activated the diagnostic system and quickly an error is found with the DST Hard Drive, with the UCWFXL error code - M 7, 7834 - MFPWL1 - 60VM03. I'm not entirely sure what this question means, but I clearly have to solve in order to make use of the laptop again. Since it is a problem of hard drive, this means the hard drive needs to be replaced? Don't assume that someone could tell me what measures should be considered now? • HP Pavilion PC 13-p120nr x 2 - Add hard drive

Have a new PC HP Pavilion of the 13-p120nr x 2-4 GB of RAM (chip of DMM3 RAM 8 GB already on the way), with 64 GB SSD.

    Issues related to the:

-Can I add a HD if it did not come with one initially? (slim model? or a SSD HD as with other models split X 2?)

-True IF, what guidance for HP kit? (for the HD or HD SSD? Estimated costs for the HD, Kit, or both?

-Kit drive HARD HP includes the hard drive, or is it just some kind of support for the reader?

-Is simply an addition of 'plug and play' (by simply taking the back off, install the support and HD in him plugging in and pressing power WE?) Technically not incompetent, but not a nerd from unix/linux/.NET of power or the other.

-(More stupid Q no doubt) addition HD works in parallel with the memory of the State solid 64 GB already installed? Or does it come to the top as a drive "E:" or "X:" or something else?

Best regards to all, thank you in advance for reading and answers. See you soon! Bob W, Bristol, RI, USA.

Geez - Noone has information about this X 2 things? Or is it noone has anything on this particular model (13-p120nr x 2 PC)? Anyone? Thoughts? (or less suggestions on where to find suite learn more?)

    Hello BobW-Bristol-Rl

I understand that you are trying to update your 13-p120m x 2 HP Pavilion PC and deals with the requirements for adding a SSD HD or HARD drive? Here I quote the User Guide for your laptop "for the additional capacity or features, connect an external drive (sold separately), such as an optical drive or a hard disk, or insert a card directly from your phone or your camera.» This information has been retrieved from page 50 of your user manual.

As well as the manual says to your laptop, it's that you cannot add a second internal hard drive, but you can add external references those. I myself have 2 drives external hard one that I use as a return to the top of the storage device and the other as another operating system on it.

Now if you are looking to replace your current SSD, I found nothing which limit the size or who says that you can't switch the internal SSD flash disk. I am including the Guide of Installation SSD HP Upgrade Kit for you to look at and see if it is an option for you.

One last note, if you are inexperienced in this kind of replacement I wouldn't recommend what to do yourself. Local computer repair shops may charge you to do, but you know it's done properly, and it is not as expensive as replacing the entire notebook.

I hope I answered your questions and wish you good luck. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • Move the Windows Media Player files to another external hard drive

The hard disk that contains the files from my Windows Media Player 10 is dying.  I need to move the data to a new hard drive that I bought, but have not yet connected to my PC.  Old and new external hard drives are plug-and-play.

I have a lot of additional information to the library and want to be sure that I don't lose in the process.  However, I have not found anything in the documentation that tells me how to move my database from one hard disk to another.  Can anyone help?

If music files are in MP3 or WMA format, so most of the information is also stored in the files themselves, so that these information will be retained when the files are moved. There are a few fields that are not stored in the files, such as play account, custom fields and possibly star ratings. In order to preserve these fields during the movement of the library, you can use the backup of the metadata tool.
