HP Personal Media Drive: Restore the HP Personal Media Drive on PC content with 8.1?

Hi, I have a Presario desktop computer that was originally Vista but upgraded to Windows 7.  He apparently died, but the contents were backed up on a disk HP Personal Media, model hd1600s.  I want to restore some of the content saved for a new cell phone ENVY with 8.1 but I learned that the media player is not compatible with 8.1.  Is it possible to restore files or otherwise draw from the media player so I can restore/load them on the URGE despite the incompatibility?

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

8.1 win should recognize the external media player and allow reading and writing the data to disk on the fly.  What happens when you tried?

Short answer, "no, this will not work."

It is unclear what you mean by 'backup' and 'restore', but it seems that if you are referring to the creation of a disk image or a clone of disk on an external drive and then either restore the image or cloning to the new computer.  Assuming that both of these computers was provided with Windows pre-installed, this process will almost certainly result in a facility that cannot be 'activated '.  In addition, unless the software you use has something like Acronis Universal Restore, restore the image from your old computer to a player in a new computer with a different hardware simply will not work.

In addition, the lack of an XP license is not the issue.  There are several problems with the process you describe, but basically, an "upgrade" from XP to Win 7 requires a "custom installation" which means that applications should be re-installed.

  • Restore using the recovery disks on Inspiron 15 3521 supplied with Windows 8 Pro. Question on the recovery partition.

I created by the user recovery disks.  I created them the day I got the computer and he made three of them.  My brother has deleted my recovery partition just now.  My question is, if I resumed my Inspiron 15 3521 using three recovery disks that I created, be it recreate the recovery partition in the process?   I just need an answer to this question, not responses indicating that, if I have the disks, I don't need the recovery partition, why would I want the recovery partition if I have the drive, etc.  I would like to just a simple answer to the question.  If I use the recovery discs, it will recreate the partition recovery with all the info, she was in it when I got to the computer?  Once the recovery is completed from disks, will be that recovery partition be there as the day I got the computer, so if I wanted to (I don't want to, but I'm just a question) I could still create the recovery of her discs?  Basically, the computer will be exactly as it was the day I got it home, recover partition and everything?  Or, it will restore the computer to the new plant, but not to re-create the recovery partition with everything she had in it the day I got it?

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, it will be if you select the correct option.

  • Restore the Windows media player MP3 device library

The music library in windows media center on my PC has been deleted. The music is always on my MP3 player. Can someone explain how to restore the library in windows media center. I have windows XP. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello CLIPUSER97,

    1. When you say MP3 player, are you referring to the Portable MP3 player?

If the library is removed from the computer and the files are wiped from the hard drive, you will not be able to restore.

However, if you have music files on your portable MP3 player, you can copy music files from the MP3 player to the computer and add it to the Library Media Center.

Try to copy the files of music from Windows Explorer.

Most MP3 players will appear as a "disk" on your computer, and you can browse the files on them by simply opening.

If you can do this, you should be able to copy / delete / move files between the MP3 player and the computer. Select all files from the MP3 player and copy it to the computer.

Once you copy the files on the computer, you can add the file to the Media Center.

You can check the link for more information about the Library Media Center below:

  • Cannot restore the image of the external drive

I got a bolt of lightning and the factory hard drive needs to be replaced. I created a DVD boot disk and a current backup system on a USB external drive. Everything goes as planned; I boot on the DVD, Windows loads the files and the cranks Recovery Manager. I go through the guests to restore from system image, that I created earlier and the Manager believes the USB image. All is well until the system tries to install the image and then I get an error: failed to restore of system image. There is no drive that can be used to recover the system.

The new drive is 500 GB, the old is 650 GB. Is the small size of disc the question?

I caught a 1 to, a disc, which annoyingly I wants to go to the origin but rather picked up a 500 GB and the restoration seeks to advance. It has at least not out crapped on the date and is trying to restore the image to the new drive. With the fast error when restoring to the 500 GB drive, it seems the image was to remember the size of the partition and reluctant.

  • I need to restore the security permissions default to all files on drive c of a Windows XP workstation

I changed some security permissions on all of the C: drive, which is my boot drive system on a network under Windows XP Pro SP3 (32 bit) desktop.  I had shared the drive several years ago, and I believe that the problems were built from the other. I had to rebuild my server and choose a different domain name and connected workstations to the domain. I would like to restore default settings for the C: drive of the workstation (not shared?, permissions and security on all files of Windows and the default user restored to the default values.)

Anyone know where I can find a list of the rights and permissions for each of the folders and subfolders on the WIndows system drive? Or is there an automated routine that will restore the default permission?

  • Windows complete PC Backup Image - impossible to restore the backup on my laptop after the restoration of the C drive.

My user profile is not loaded correctly, and so Sony told me to do a restore of the C drive which took my drive C back to factory settings and lost all my programs and files.  I tried since then to restore the Windows Image backup I did on my external hard drive.

I open backup and Restore Center, click Advanced Restore, click Advanced Restore again.  The box application to what you want to restore?  The only option is to files from a backup made on a different computer.  I click Next, and he said: select the location of the backup to restore.  Hard drive, cd or dvd option has already found new Volume (e), which is my external hard drive.

I click Next again, and he says, select dates to restore from.  The only option in the box is dated 2008-01-12 14:14:34 backup location is not available.  My external hard drive has multiple backups on it, including the Windows Backup Image (which was the first backup, I did and it contains 152 GB), and so I do not understand this.

I continue, and then click Next.  It now says select files and folders to be restored, but there is nothing in the box.  I have check the restore everything in this backup box and click Next.  I save the files restored to the following location - check and navigate to the C drive.  I also check both boxes: restore files to their original subfolders and create a subfolder for the drive letter.  I click on begin to restore, and then he said:

Restoration was unsuccessful.  Error: the parameter is incorrect. (0 x 80070057)

I'm desperate to be able to get my programs and files back on my laptop.  I don't understand why the restore function can not see my Windows Backup Image, and why this is so difficult.  I've read other complaints by users about this, but cannot find a solution.

I look forward to hear from you.

    Thank you.

    Hi HGHFaith,

I suggest you try the following steps:

Step 1 : Clean boot the computer and then try to restore

Follow step 1 in the link below,

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.

After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

Important: n ' forget not the computer to start normal follow step 7 in the link.

    If the problem persists,

Step 2: Run Check disk to repair bad sectors on the hard drive.

    a. Click Start, in the start search bar type cmd, right-click on the command prompt icon in the box programs and then click Run as administrator.

    b. type E: (external drive) and press enter

    c. at the command prompt, type chkdsk /f and then press ENTER.

    Now, type chkdsk/r

Note: CHKDSK would attempt to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, in the course of this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular area.

Check whether the problem is resolved
