I need to restore the security permissions default to all files on drive c of a Windows XP workstation
I changed some security permissions on all of the C: drive, which is my boot drive system on a network under Windows XP Pro SP3 (32 bit) desktop. I had shared the drive several years ago, and I believe that the problems were built from the other. I had to rebuild my server and choose a different domain name and connected workstations to the domain. I would like to restore default settings for the C: drive of the workstation (not shared?, permissions and security on all files of Windows and the default user restored to the default values.)
Anyone know where I can find a list of the rights and permissions for each of the folders and subfolders on the WIndows system drive? Or is there an automated routine that will restore the default permission?

problem with write access to truecrypt readers windows 7. The mounted drive is not writing priveliges. Read-only. Cannot change in the security permissions.
Hi amcop4591,
1. How is - that Mount you the drive on the computer?
2 Di you use any third-party tool to mount the drive?
I suggest that you remove the external drive using the disk management and check back later if you can change the permissions on the drive.
If you change the permissions, make changes to the permissions on the drive and then mount the drive.

* Original title: restart the computer
I just got a new Windows 7 computer, and it has many applications in this shift makes the apps that I really need. How can I completely restart the computer world and lose all files, applications, etc., that came with the computer first
If these are apps you added and want more, you can use the functionality of your computer factory restore. Unfortunately, this erases the disk and leave you with a double précis of his State when you turned on for the first time. Then, you would have to do all the updates of Windows and then install all the programs you want.
Otherwise, use programs uninstaller (from Control Panel) for each application that you do NOT want to uninstall.

Hello
1. what changes have been made to your computer before the problem?
Follow these steps and check if they help.
Step 1:
I would say you rebuild the icon cache and check if the problem persists.
a. press the keyboard Windows logo key combination + R to bring up the Run dialog box.
b. type cmd and press ENTER to open the command prompt window.
c. in the command prompt window, type the following commands pressing ENTER after each line:
Taskkill /f /im explorer.exe
attrib-h "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
del "%userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db.
Explorer.exed. this restart Windows Explorer and rebuild the cache icons as needed.
Step 2:
Test the issue in a new user account.

When I right click on an image to make a backup because it won't let me save the image in jpeg format, what is on the menu drop-down is "all files" that records under a bunch of numbers and letters, etc. It save it as an aspx file.
Try to add the .jpg file extension yourself if Firefox does not when you save an image file.
If you have already saved images with an incorrect file extension, then rename them and add a .jpg file extension. Check the properties of the file via the context menu to see if that worked. -
Remove the read-only attribute from all files in a folder
How to remove the read-only attribute from all files in a folder. I tried to use the properties and used the attrib command, but all I see is when I right click on the folder, selecting Properties, it shows once again
I followed the forums, but I'm really confused. Can someone help me with this. Thanks in advance
I would like to start by finding which file is read-only again. This is probably a file as well as a miniature file desktop.ini. An easy way to find it is to go to the details view, turn on the column heading "Attributes" and search for all files with the attribute value "R":
In this example, the key of SB file is read-only:

How to change the security permissions to access the data restored on a separate hard drive?
I keep data such as program installations, documents, etc., on a separate hard disk systems sees reader1 (D:\). The previous operating system was Windows XP Pro and before removing this BONE, all hard drives have been saved on a separate external hard drive that works on USB. The new operating system is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
After Installing Win 7, I restored the data from the backup disk drive. Now, none of the files on the disk of such modified data box that save, delete, etc. At first, I found that all the files have been marked read-only, but I was able to clear this attribute on the data reader. However, now I can't change anything because I am informed that access is denied. I am enrolled a s administrater with all permissions. I think that the restored data has inherited attributes permission that were defined when used or created by the previous operating system, Windows XP. How can I get permission to use these data?
