  However, if you browse the HP support forums, you will find that some people have managed using spare HP drivers as a workaround. These are not official methods and cannot work or cause other problems. It would be prudent to back up your data and create a system restore point, if you decide to try.

  Don't forget that the 32-bit drivers cannot be used on 64-bit Windows (and vice versa).

  Follow the instructions below.

  1. open devices and printer

  2. click on add a printer

  3. click Add a local printer

  4. from the use existing port, select the USB option and then click Next

  5. click the button of Windows Update to get all the support window 7 drivers updated

  6. once the update is complete. Click HP from the menu on the left, then select the printer Deskjet 990c in the right menu, and then click Next.

  7. follow the remaining instructions to complete the installation.

  Once you have the printer added 990c make sure it is the default printer, and then try to print on your printer Photosmart 1000 using this driver. I would like to know if you have the same problem?

Now, I buy like laptop HP Compaq Presario x 64 and I'm unable to use my HP printer. I love my printer and have endured years of ink cartridges 40 - 50.00. However, if I can't download the drivers and software to load this printer on my laptop HP with Vista 64, then I not replace my printer with another HP. I love the quality of the printer and its functions and were willing to make compromises on pay more to the price of the cartridge costs. But, if I have to pay, simply because I just buy a computer "nine" at HP, then I will be replaced by the new Xerox printer.

  Does anyone know if there is a download with the drivers and software for this printer to work to Amend be recognised by Windows Vista? Please let me know. I appreciate all the advice!

  If it's the Photosmart 1000, which uses the cartrdiges 45 # and #78 (introduced in 1998 about...) the driver Deskjet 970 should provide a good match for printing.  Go to the printers, add printer folder, and then select the Deskjet 970.

  Never used it before so I tried the XP program compatibility Wizard I forgot. That fixed the problem with the USB cord. I had downloaded the new driver for XP but didn't know how to use it and could not open or some nomatter what I tried or where I put nothing helped. Installation using old records kept asking for files, that I didn't of course. All tried, you know the drill. Install, uninstall, and more. Went back on Yahoo search (20' e time) and found a score to the HP page where I had downloaded the driver. «How to install «...»» "don't remember that being there when I got the driver downloaded. Then I followed the instructions, once more and double click on the new driver on my laptop and installed like a champ.
  I hope this helps someone else. Too tired, you miss things.
