  The printer initialization is normal after printing several documents, and yes it can make a bit of noise while doing this process.   I see that you are looking for a way to turn the negatives into digital files, from where you can print photos with your Photosmart 5520. I will certainly do my best to explain what you need to do this

  Unfortunately the Photosmart 5520 scan photo negatives. Actually, I should say it can not turn them into photos, it would be just negative scanner and you would have a digital version of your negatives. What you will need to get a scanner of negatives/slides, as explained in this Post on the CNET Forum or you can contact local camera/photo shops to see if they can help you in this business as well.

  When I turn on and use the 5520 photosmart printer, my iMac stops almost completely obeys orders like the closing of the browser. I went to download drivers thinking that this could be the solution, but for the 5520 the drop down menu offers versions higher than what is installed on the iMac from Apple. I have the latest for iMac which is 10.8.6

  Maybe you have some sage advice for this problem and maybe a new driver is not the problem, but something in the interface of the two is the engine of my regular iMac to madness. Thank you for all the experiences or thoughts.

  I just wanted to check with you, have you been able to connect the printer directly to a wall jack after my last post? If so, it seemed with all?

  A colleague suggested that maybe the disk permissions are part of the question, so at this point, I would like reset you your printing system (does not re - immediately add the printer), and then do a check/repair disk permissions. Once that is complete restart your Mac and re - add the printer to the print queue. Once everything is set, try to print again and see how the printer behaves with the Mac. If things are still wobbly and allowing you to use force them to leave, then I might suggest that you create a new user profile on your Mac and see how things work on this account with the installation of the printer.

  You can try to turn your iPad off and turn it back on to see if so picks up the printer.

  If this does not work you can try to unplug the printer for 10 seconds and then restart it and through the Wireless Setup to see if would then become visible to the iPad.

• Photosmart 5520 cannot get black ink to print

  I have successfully install a new black ink cartridge 564 in the photosmart printer 5520. It will print no black ink. However when I print a report of diagnostic quality printing black ink will print the words and rectangle boxes.  On the report there are 4 boxes, one for each color boxes, cyan, magenta and yellow are filled in with each respective color, howerer the black box is empty or the color of the white paper. My estimated black ink gauge says it is almost full. Can some help me?

   I have down loaded new updates and now my ink as been solved problem.

  Is this device provide connecting local area network (LAN) or internet access broadband?

  If this device provides LAN connectivity that is possible devices can have internet access but will not be able to communicate with each other via the local network.

  There was a change in the design of the 364 cartridges back in September 2010.  Former Cartrdiges will not work in some new printers, the new cartrdiges will work in the old and the new printers.  See here for more information.

  When I used to print from my iPad via AirPrint on both sides on my printer HP Photosmart 5520, it used to print, so that you may browse on the long side. For some reason, it changed to printing, so it switches to the short side.

  How can I change by flipping on the long side?

  My son has discovered a fix for this problem. We have now tried on three iPads and whenever he has set.
  The solution is to disable double-sided printing in the options when you are about to print a document and then turn it back on.
  After that the only time anything printed duplex will be sharp long printed not short edge.
  It is not a rocker, I can't get my iPad to print double-sided on the short side now (not that I want to), for some reason once you turned two-sided printing off and on again, long-back becomes the permanent default.

  It's all very mysterious, but it seems to have corrected itself.  Finally, the 'out of paper' error message appeared yesterday (there were many), I pushed in the paper and things started to print again.  I was also able to rescan.  Not sure if she was no longer a problem of Google or what but we are in service again.
