  After a lot of dilemma, I buy THISlaptop.

  My main concern is the "on-site 5-year guarantee" it comes with.

  This laptop has now only 4 GB of RAM. I want to add an another 4 GB myself.

  In doing so, it will take Bay opening to service the laptop.

  Open myself for a RAM upgrade will void the warranty?

  In addition, no one knows how much total RAM this computer supports? How many slots is there?

  I tried to contact HP technical support by email, and I have to enter a serial number to reach them. I entered the serial number of my laptop current (and also a probook), but I think that the agent did not read my email properly.   According to the Manual, it has 2 slots:

  Currently, according to CPU - z I 2 GB 800 MHz. By searching hp.com and the net I discovered that some 4710 s take other ddr3 and ddr2.

  So I chated with an HP expert 2 weeks ago and he said that my laptop run maximum 8 GB at 1333. And I went bought 2x2gb 1333...

  When I tried to install that I fell on a DDR2 socket! Obviously, the ddr3 was not appropriate in this medium.

  So my question is---> what is happening? Everywhere I look on the Net some say DDR2 and DDR3 of others. How is that possible? The laptop has other modules Drr3 media I did not find?

  Thank you very much for the link, I don't really know what is happening here also. It says on page #3 DDR2 but on another page (s) he says DDR3. The manual also shows DDR2 as in my previous post and you have discovered it only supports DDR2. Maybe more later models supported DDR3.   I have an Intel I5 Ivy Bridge CPU, Win 7 64 bits Home Premium OS, 16 GB of RAM and GPU Nvidia GTX 550 it to 1 GB DDR5 memory.  I run two programs in real-time mapping/trading stocks on two monitors.

  My goals are to improve the time to re - draw screen and reduce the Windows hard disk access.  Although there are alternatives to consider, I would like to invite the community to thoughts on two issues:
  1. how to increase the use of the RAM to the paging/caching window: tools of the surveillance system show that the use of the RAM is about 30% of the installed 16 GB all cached Windows hard disk is constantly busy.   If there is a tweak to increase the use of the RAM, I could develop memory 32 GB RAM.
  2. otherwise, I could install a 120 GB Solid State Drive.  Then, the question is whether you use the SSD for the OS or as according to Intel Rapid Storage disk cache would give the best solution for the above stated objectives?

  My understanding is that the software is responsible for the amount of RAM is used.
