HP8440P Elitebook: HP Elitebook 8440 Memory Upgrade

I bought a refurbished hp elitebook 8440p with 4 GB of memory but want to upgrade to 8 GB. I was sold 4 GB one another chip, pc3-10600 1333 mhz ddr3 sodimm, 8 tokens on the Board.   By reading your forum, I discovered that the other memory location is under the keyboard.  My question is, if the expansion slot already has an existing chip in it, the main location must have a chip in too, correct?  If my laptop has 4 GB of memory now, so I must have (2) 2 GB chips?  It is not possible to just memory in the expansion slot, is it?  I really don't want to have to make my keyboard to determine.

Thank you!

  • EliteBook 8440p memory upgrade problem

I have a 8440p with 2 GB installed, running Windows 7 32 bit (Yes, I know, this config sucks).

I want to get all of the 4 GB addressable with Win7/32 myself a 4 GB SODIMM thinking that later, if we ever 64-bit installed, I can go up to a massive 6 GB addressable immediately and have the option for 8 GB...

So when the 4 GB is installed in the Bay of belly, the machine starts fine, but go to the CP, it shows the 6 GB installed (fine) but only 2.92 GB usable (not so well). I was expecting something much closer to 4 GB addressable (for example 3.9 GB). Advanced Tools-Resource Monitor shows approximately the same (2.91 GB).

Having just updated i7 laptop Alienware my son to 32GB, I know that CP still show a slight deficit in GB usable, but not of 33.33%. I expect the used to be quite a bit closer to 4 GB to that.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Don't forget, I still have the original 2 GB in there and, Yes, please answer if you know the problem, rather that suggest I have delete the original SODIMM and try it (which will take a week until we can get a breakfix guy to do it, otherwise it will void the warranty, apparently).

Thank you in advance for your help!

Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!

  • HP EliteBook 8440p: memory modules RAM that actually work for HP EliteBook 8440p?

Hi everyone again. I scoured these forums and others and can't find a definitive answer to the upgrade of my RAM memory.

    My system:

    HP EliteBook 8440p

    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7 M640

    Professional Win7 64 bit

    133 MHz bus clock

    BIOS: HP 68ccu, worm. F.11 (2010)

    Dual core, hyper-threaded (4)

    (?) Mobile Intel QM57 chipset

According to Belarc Advisor, I currently have a 4MB of RAM Samsung under the keyboard module. The second location is empty.  First of all, more memory RAM is not sold in the UK? I know that the computer is capable of 8 GB and the Kingston modules, I just tried to install were 4GB each.  Sticks of Kingston are 8 GB (2 x 4), PC3-10600, CL9, 1.5V, 204 pins SODIMM modules and they do NOT work on this laptop even if they should.

Has anyone found the secret of exactly which modules memory will work with this specific model of laptop? It is issues of density? Problems of tension? Am I missing a driver. I have to sing the thing while I install memory?

Seriously, any help at all will be appreciated.

I can add more technical info on request.

Recently saved this PC of my friend tries to throw it. Everything is fine with the PC. It works perfectly and there is no material visible failure wihtin the PC either. He just bought a new and had no need for this one.

Before turn me this into a House mutli-purpose server, I decided to upgrade the RAM.

So I did some research and found this page: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01883661

DDR3 240-pin DIMM 1333 MHz non - ECC, Max 4 GB per DIMM slot, Total Max 16 GB module.

I went and bought RAM Corsair. Link to the product: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cmv4gx3m1a1333c9

I decided to get 2x4gb and upgrade later if I felt the need.

I was happy to install in the PC. one in DIMM 1 slot and the other in the DIMM 2 slot.

    BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!

I thought that maybe the slots are wrong, maybe they have to odd numbers then numbers.

So I changed the RAM of DIMM 2 DIMM 3.

    Once again, the annoying ringtone.

I even tried leaving just the 4 GB DIMM 1 and tried to start the PC, but nothing helped.

I tried a lot of different combinations with the end result is 5 annoying beeps.

After that I thought that maybe, just maybe, an update of the BIOS can change things.

So I installed Windows 7 (I can't stand Windows. Arch Linux FTW) and performing a BIOS update.

I then installed the new RAM again. Yes... frickin 5 beeps AGAIN.

I am extremely disappointed at this point. I spent already $ 70 on a computer with free access.

I read the forums here, but I couldn't find a thread with a solution for me.

Is there anyone on this forum who could lend me a helping hand?

Any information would be gladly appreciated.

PS Please report any stupid error, I did. Stick and stones could not curb my bones.

  • Max Memory Upgrade for Pavilion a810y

How can I find the AMT of max memory I can put in my Pavilion a810y?  It of sites that say 4 GB and other telling that to 2 GB.  Is the real answer please stand up.

    Hello:

Your PC would have the Intel 915 chipset.

If the motherboard has no memory, each with 1 GB of memory, 2 slots then you're at the max.

Locations of Intel 915 chipset memory cannot manage more than 1 GB of memory.

The crucial memory upgrade link I posted said your PC had 4 locations of memory, so that the info is wrong.

If you upgrade to W7, I recommend you only go with the 32-bit version on your PC.

A 64-bit system requires more disk space and memory to run as a 32-bit system doesn't work - not double, but, with only 2 GB of memory, a 32 bit OS will perform a little better that will be a 64 bit OS, but who is to you.

  • HP CQ61-313US posible memory upgrade configurations?

I have this laptop: HP CQ61-313US (with Windows7 64 bit) (card mother AMD = SKU: 577064-001)

    Origin this model laptop has 3 GB (1 GB x 1 + 2 x 1 GB) memory DDR2 800 MHz PC2 6400 S.

Now, I would like to upgrade memory a little bit, and according to the specifications (manual booklet to print and pdf) it is (recommended?, recommended?, applicable only?)  configurations of memory upgrade - here's the Manual:

    2 SODIMM slots

    Customer-accessible/extendable

    PC2-6400, 800 MHz, DDR2

    Supports dual-channel memory

Supports up to 8 GB of RAM, in the following configurations:

    8192 MB (4096 × 2)

    4096 MB (2048 × 2)

    3072 MB (2 048 × 1 + 1024 × 1)

    2048 MB (2 048 × 1).

    2048 MB (1024 × 2)

    1024 MB (1024 × 1).

As you can see only 6 GB isn't on the list, which is incomprehensible to me, particularly because you can combine 1 GB x 1 + 2 GB x 1 to get 3 GB, but not 2 x 1 + 4 x 1 for 6 GB GB GB as I would like.

So basically my question should be: is it possible to install 6 GB memory 2 GB x 1 + 4 GB x 1 on this motherboard despite the fact that it is not mentioned in the manual configuration?

    If YES, then what configuration would be better: 6 GB (2 GB x 1 + 4 x 1 GB) or 4 GB (2 GB x 2)?

    You are the very welcome.

I agree entirely with you suggestion.

You have a laptop HP Pavilion 2002au g6. Unfortunately you happened to choose a laptop that is not so simple to upgrade.

You will need to contact an online memory provider and ask them for help to find a guaranteed compatible 8 GB upgrade or buy the upgrade from HP.

Search for suppliers of memory online using Google or Bing and ""memory upgrade HP Pavilion g6-2002au ' as keywords. " I strongly recommend that you don't settle for anything memory compatible modules less guaranteed by well known memory manufacturers.

Hello, I have a HP 21 2014 all in one computer. He now has 4 GB Ram memory and an AMD processor. I was wondering how it would be possible to increase the Ram up to 8 GB. Is there a certain number of model or brand of Ram do I need to buy? I looked a few things on Frys Electronics, but obviously I'm naïve. I really want to upgrade memory because I have some games which really lag on this computer, even if it is new, and I know it takes more may work properly. I'm trying to age 5 years Veriton M498G memory upgrade my son of 4 GB to 12 GB now when I upgaded to Windows 7 64 bit.

The original 2 GB key still works fine and the 2 GB key that I added back a bit works very well too (4 GB total).

But when I remove all the sticks and put in a new 4 GB stick the computer crashes in the POST just after the BIO 1024Mo of RAM (!). Looks like that the BIOS does not like the 4 GB stick! Compensation of the BIOS did not help.

Back original memory makes the computer works perfectly.

I am well aware of the memory manufacturer/type compatibility issues.

I tried 4 different memory of 4 GB sticks from 2 different sources with no luck.

    My questions are:

    1. the Veriton M498G motherboard or BIOS has any limitation on the size of the memory card?

2 I missed a setup or configuration to let the BIOS see the 4 GB memery stick?
