Hyperthreading

I have a dv7 with a processor 4-core i7-3820QM Win 7 Home premium 64-bit. How can I disable hyperthreading? I could not find in the BIOS.

Hello

Unfortunately you can not, there is no option to disable Hyperthreading in your HP bios.  You can find the thread following here of interest.

  • Qosmio X 500 uses only two hearts when Hyperthreading is off

    Hello

I am running Windows Server 2008 R2 that I would use the machine as a workstation (not for games). The role using Hyper-V has failed with active hyperthreading, a lot of crashes (BSOD) appeared.

I disabled hyperthreading in the BIOS, but since then I don't see that two hearts instead of 4 cores (using Device Manager or the Task Manager). I720 CPU is CPU natively 4 so he can't show just 2 hearts if everything is ok. The laptop is also significantly more slow.

I checked the BIOS and also found strange thing. It has an option "Dynamic Acceleration enable Intel" but that technology is at the Core of Duo processors, not related to latest processors (like i720) hearts.

Toshiba, I want all my 4 cores, not just 2 hearts. Someone should try and prove I'm right.

History of BIOS Qosmio is probably not yet over.

  • Impossible to disable hyperthreading on my Qosmio X 500

I tried to disable the hyper threading on my computer (Qosmio X 500) because I think that I would get a better return if the carrots were not shared between the 2 wires each, but when I checked the BIOS, I have been unable to identify an enabling/disabling hyperthreading.

I would be very happy if I could get help.

In most cases, disable hyperthreading will slow down your PC. Windows and many programs are optimized for multithreading and benefit of HT, including games.

If there is no option in the BIOS, you cannot disable HT.

Is there a particular application, you try to make it faster? Maybe we can help in other ways.

  • Satellite A500 - 1GL Boot menu and Hyperthreading question

    OK, I have 2 questions.

The first is on the start menu, one that says Toshiba and a then press F2 for Setup and F12 (I think) for boot order.
Basically I turned off in the menu of the bios so that it would be faster to start up the computer.
But now, how am I supposed to access the bios menu?
Is there a way to reactivate this screen?

    My second question is;
How can disable you hyperthreading in the bios menu?
That's what I wanted originally to make but I couldn't find the option to turn on/off.
All I could find was something to stop the two hearts and make core (which is a bit useless)

    Hi mate

It of not possible to disable access to the BIOS!
You can secure access BIOS with the password, but if you know the password then you should be able to access the BIOS by pressing F2, immediately after that the laptop was turned on!

    Regarding Hyperthreading.
Generally, you won't be able to enable/disable-that if the BIOS does not contains option. But you can check if the Toshiba HWSetup (in Toshiba Assist) would contain this option.

    Welcome them

  • Re: Qosmio X 870 - no option to disable hyperthreading in the BIOS

    Hello

    I have a Qosmio X 870 - PSPLXF.

I do a lot of video coding and testing of software on virtual machines. Most of the software I use is not optimized for more than 2 threads, so with active hyperthreading, it works to 13%, or 26% of CPU.

On my old system, I was able to turn off hyperthreading and have these applications run in 26%, or 52% of the processor, which is double the speed.

The Insyde BIOS of H2o on the Qosmio, I cannot change that. It allows me to turn off "Nuclei" which seems to limit the speed of the system half a thread, which is totally useless.

In my opinion, hyperthreading is useless with a CPU with 4 cores or more.
I need to be able to turn off so I can take full advantage of the powerful CPU that is installed on my system.

Is it not possible to activate this feature in an update of the BIOS, or even just release a BIOS with hyperthreading disabled completely?

This feature is available in Toshiba HWSetup?

Toshiba HW Setup provides a few BIOS options that can be changed from Windows system running.

However, if it is not available in the BIOS or HWSetup, I n t think that you would be able to toggle this feature.

  • How to disable Hyperthreading on Y550P?

I don't see this option in the bios. I remember it was in the bios on my old desktop pentium 4.

I know that the i7 in the y550p has hyperthreading, but I can't find any option to disable.

Why would I do that? Some games get better performance when there is a true quad core, because they cannot use 8 wires.

WARNING: Do not play with anything else I want to mention, unless you have the knowledge to do so.

Start > type "msconfig" > press "enter".

    Go to the tab "Boot".

    Click on 'Advanced Options '.

Check the 'number of processors' and set the value to 4.

Next time you reboot your machine, windows recognizes 4 cores. These 4 cores will be the most physical, instead of 2 physical cores with 2 threads of each. Therefore, you will have the same experience if you disabled hyperthreading from the BIOS.

  • Turbo boost does not work when active hyperthreading - W520

I have ignored this issue for a long time, until I've decided to try to understand and fix it. My W520 would never go beyond 2.40 GHz, I tried all the tests in the book. Manager power AC power, BIOS enabled, the max value performance in what concerns all, power settings windows too. stress tests, single thread, multi-threaded, has no importance, it has always been to 2.40 GHz or less (800 idling). After much trial and error, I found that this turbo would work properly if hyperthreading is disabled in the BIOS. The CPU module and then between 800 MHz to 3.5 GHz as it should with active turbo. Why can I not use hyperthreading AND turbo? Is this normal?

I also noticed that in the BIOS there is no option for turbo-boost. Just hyperthreading, multi-core and speedstep.

W520, i7-2760qm, BIOS 1.40, all the latest recommended updates.

  • D20 - without with Xeon processor Hyperthreading?

    Hallo,

Since a few days I very happily use my new thinkstation D20 with a CPU Xeon 5506. However, when I start the Task Manager in Vista or Server 2008 I see always 4 processors. But I expect to see 8 processors using this processor Hyperthreading.

Question: is there an option in the BIOS to enable Hyperthreading? I've always found it. Or does this processor not support Hyperthreading at all?

    Greetings,

    :-) Hannes

    Welcome to the forum!

  • 2 computer CPU with Hyperthreading XP Pro uninstall

I bought a computer from two CPU with an OEM license.  I have no idea what hyperthreading I discovered yesterday when looked in the BIOS settings I don't know if I think that's not good. When you use Microsoft Fix it difficulty it doesn't detect any hardware or software. I ask this question on my other computer. I discovered that in hybernation mode there is an option to delete files and return to the bios. A few months after the purchase I discovered I had a guest account I deleted all the files with that account.

I am not very computer but I'm Fuming on this computer. I would like to know how to completely remove files (XP Pro) taking account of the two CPU and Hyperthreading?  For the interem I have a license software XP Home install disk.

I asked a few questions here at Microsoft Answers and in hindsight, a Question about Microsoft Fix It error code was published in the community forum

When it should of gone to one technician technical support for which I apologize.  I got emails regarding my questions. Which was very stange for me in regard to a question I had asked he said that the following thread link has been removed becaused I had created. The emails offered links that I find it silly to have followed a link in an email! I'm not sure they're Microsoft and error codes that I have provided different to those which have been subsequently sent to me.

I thank you in advance for your time and patience in reading this and a forward answer.

    {Moderator note: Thread placed in the applicable category}

Hyperthreading is a good thing.  It allows a CPU to manage more than one thread so that it can do more than one thing at a time.  The current Intel i7 processors have hyperthreading.  See what hyperthreading is here: http://www.intel.com/technology/platform-technology/hyper-threading/index.htm

  • When Windows 7 is already installed, disable Hyperthreading. Possible without reinstallation?

I have a quad core i7 with 7 installed windows Enterprise. I have run a large number of programs of single-thread for the heavy calculations, so the multithreading is really costing me a lot of time. I can use only half of the cpu, that I could use without hyperthreading (12-13% instead of 25%). I would like therefore to change that.

Now, I've read on several you have / have not not to reinstall your Windows to change this hyperthreading. So I come to you: How can I approach this better, without loss of stability (which I very need), with minimal effort and without unpleasant side effects. Reinstall everything will take me a few days, so the boss it like really if I have to.

    See you soon

Played when even a little last night. Disable hyperthreading in BIOS worked, and none of the strange things are go to my windows. So I can confirm, on a quadcore i7 with Windows 7 Enterprise, you can disable hyperthreading without having to reinstall Windows.

As expected, R rotates much faster (depending on the tested code between 1.5 and 1.8 times faster) and uses 25% of the total CPU (so use 1 physical core now.)

  • Turn off Hyperthreading - DV ^-2005TX

    Hello

Can someone tell me please how to disable Hyperthreading on my laptop DVR-2005TX.  There is no option in the BIOS to do this.  I am running the latest Insyde bios for this machine.

    Yes, suck the HP BIOS.

No responses yet, I think that it's impossible to do it outside of the bios. I'll post if all what you are presenting.

  • The upgrade of Intel Core i7 processor 920 w / Hyperthreading

I have a Pavilion Elite d5000t with a motherboard Asus IPIBL-TX.  Currently, I have an Intel Core 2 Quad processor and upgrade to quad i7 w / hyperthreading.  The current motherboard will support this processor or do I have to upgrade it as well?  Thank you!

    -Jake

    The i7-920 (and all the i7 - 9xx) use a socket 1366.

    The i7 - 8xx (as well as the I5-870) use a socket 1156.

So yes... or need a new motherboard

The slabs 1366 (and fleas) allow triple channel memory configuration. (assuming that you buy the correct combination of the RAM of the system: not all proposed configurations will be a Tri-channel performance).

1156 slabs (and chips) will allow the configuration of memory dual channel (assuming that you buy the correct combination of the RAM of the system: not all proposed configurations will be a performance dual channel)

All i7 chips are hyperthreading. The i5 chip is not.

There is debate if tri-channel ram 1066 is actually faster than ram dual channel 1366. Of course, don't buy a PC with a misconfiguration of ram.

  • ESXi 5.5 Hyperthreading (SMT) shares on the server of NUMA

    Hello

I work with my team on a lab network emulated on a 5.5 ESXi running dual quad-core Xeon. Each node is implemented by an instance of VM 4 lanes.

We would try allowing the VM Hyperthreading core internal sharing (VM configuration-> resources-> Advannced CPU - > core Hyperthreaded share-> internal) to allow sharing core CPU just for vcpus belonging to the same VM. Now linked to this, I have the following question:

Imagine a server based NUMA NUMA scheduling where cards clients NUMA NUMA nodes House, taking into account just the number of CPU cores per node (socket) not including the hyperthreading (2 x). This means that vpcus belonging to the same VM 4 lanes are allocated to different nuclei of the same NUMA node (server host has 2 Sockets of quad-core cpu). If that's true, CPU scheduling can simply choose plan a vcpu VM on a full- or simply for a logical core HT but it is not the same VM vpcus cases are scheduled to run on some logical cores (logical cores HT) belonging to the same CPU core.

Now, I believe that the only way to have "Internal" Hyperthreading core sharing work, is to define the numa advanced option numa.vcpu.preferHT = TRUE to force the assignment Planner NUMA to take into account the number of cores including hyperthreading (heart logical SMT) placing vcpus VM (if any) on the same CPU kernel threads HT.

    Does make sense? Thank you.

I believe that the only way to have "Internal" Hyperthreading core sharing work, is to define the numa advanced option numa.vcpu.preferHT = TRUE to force the assignment Planner NUMA to take into account the number of cores including hyperthreading (heart logical SMT) placing vcpus VM (if any) on the same CPU kernel threads HT.

It's prefer the way of doing the "virtual machine using the hyper-threading with NUMA.".  Even is to refer in the Kb KB VMware: Configure virtual machines to use hyper-threading technology with NUMA in VMware ESXi 4.1.x / 5.0.x high interthread communication.

  • can I assign vCPU 32 if the physical host is to have 20 hearts that hyperthreading is disabled

    Dear team,

I just want to confirm I can assign 32vCPUs to a virtual machine, if a physical host is to have total 20cores and hyperthreading is disabled.

Please let me know assign vcpus VM is depend on the version of ESXi or VM HW version or is it dependent on ESXI licenses

need your help on the same.

    concerning

    Mr. VMware

    Hey Linjo,.

    Indeed, it's picky

I just test it. The drop of webclients vCPU 5.5 only shows the number of logical cores available on the selected host.
