  I think that you bought the right product. Updates at any time are for the upgrade edition of Windows 7 to a more expensive edition. This isn't what you need to upgrade a Vista system to Windows 7. While Vista upgrades are no longer available from the Microsoft Store.

  Windows displays the message that no audio output device is installed.

  Have you watched the C:\Dell folder?  This is where they used to put all the drivers.  I just bought a Dell Inspiron last week and this is where are all mine.  There was also a drive who accompanies and that has all the drivers.

  If you do not either of the above for any reason, you can go to http://support.dell.com/support/ and click on drivers and downloads.  Equip your Service tag, and it should give you a list of all the drivers you need.
