  2 UPDATES have consistently failed to install since 12/16/10: update of security for Microsoft Works 9 (KB2431831) and update of security for Microsoft Office System 2007 (KB2288931). I tried to REINSTALL... and CONTINUED on for more than a week now with no result. I don't get the error messages or codes, so I'm not sure what to do! They are considered IMPORTANT so I guess that I need these updates and I TRIED to RESTART after update with NO RESULTS as well.   To try to solve this problem, I emptied historical Windows Update. I tried Windows Installer Cleanup to remove MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB954430) and MSXML 4.0 SP2 so I can reinstall it but Windows Installer Cleanup crashes and displays a command prompt with a lot of text.

  If Windows Update has found that you don't need, you don't have to worry about this. They probably have fixed an error in the update system.

  Here's what I recommend you do:

  1. disable UAC (do this if you are using Vista or Windows 7, otherwise, go to step # 2). Comes down
