I can't access my documents on an old hard drive of my broken laptop which is now an external drive.

I have a nc6000... and his mother did not... it was not worth to fix it because I had a spare laptop... an other xp one... a lower model of lil...  So I took my old hard drive of my NC6000 and bought an external enclosure so that it... I then plugged to my laptop and opened the drive... I can make files and access my program files... but I tried to access my F:\Documents and holder which is my account for my old laptop... the only ones I can access are the user accounts of comments... which are useless... when I have access to the main folder, it says access denied... and when I check the properties it says that the folder is empty... can someone help me please? where are my files?

You simply have to take possession of your files.

    Hello

    1. you receive an error message/code when you try to access the files on your old hard drive? If Yes, what is the full error message?

2 were there any hardware or software changes made on the computer before this problem?

Do the methods and check if it helps.

Initially, a virus using Microsoft Safety scanner scan and check if the problem persists.

    Method 1

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again.

Important: While running scan on the hard drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive when scanning try to repair this area if all available on which data may be lost.

    Method 2

Start the computer in safe mode and check if the problem persists, if the question does not persist then perform the clean boot and check if the problem resolves.

Safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not work in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed. Please click the below mentioned link.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Method 3

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: follow step 7 to reset the computer to start as usual after the boot process.

  • How can I get my favorites on an old hard drive and transfer them to another hard drive?

the motherboard is dead on my old desktop - but the hard drive is still usable. I got a new office and a friend added the old hard drive from my old computer (which has all my favorite firefox somewhere) on my new computer. Now I have two hard drives on a computer - one that came with the new computer - and my old - so, I'm now able to move all my pictures and files, etc. - and even found the bookmarks of Internet Explorer - but, I can't seem to find bookmarks in firefox. I look under Program Files - and I have-see Mozilla Firefox but don't see the bookmarks. I have searched for it - tried the answers that the mozilla site says to do it - but I can't find them. can anyone help? Thank you

Bookmarks are not stored in the Program Files folder, but rather in their own folder profile 'hidden '.
This link will show you where Firefox holds all of your information and what are the files to be transferred through

To access your profile folder, while in Firefox, click the new menu button on the right side of the navigation bar, click Help, and then click troubleshooting information. In the Applications section base, click the Show folder. The window that opens will be your profile folder.

Because you want your bookmarks, you should enter places.sqlite and then put them in the profile folder in your new hard drive with Firefox closed

  • To access the data from the old hard drive connected to the HP Pavilion 500-242ea

Recently I bought HP Pavilion 500-242ea (Windows OS 8.1) as my old pc died. I connected the old hard drive via the Usb Adapter kit. The old drive appears in the Device Manager and file Explorer and disk management in drive F, but shows no volume. I know that the old drive is not complete and the drive works as I put the disc in and they charge. When I click on the old drive-F car - in the message "Please insert the disk" leader explore appears. Anyone know how to access the data on the old drive which has the cable IDE.

Please help need to copy the old drive imporatant files.

    Thank you

Just had to ask, you know the difference between the hard drive and CD/DVD drive?  Don't get angry, read this.

You said "I know that the old drive... works as I can put disks and they load. When I click on the old player disc-F-in the message "Please insert the disk" leader explore appears. »

Anything that involves a CD/DVD drive. You can't put a disk on a hard disk.

  • How can I find my favorites on an old hard drive?

I bought a new computer and installed Firefox. Firefox has also been installed on my old computer, and I have the old hard drive connected to my new computer as drive E. I would get my favorites copied from the old drive to my current profile on my new C drive, but I can't locate the old favorites. On the old computer, I think that I was using Vista, but I don't know which version of Firefox. Here's research that I tried (should be view hidden folders):

JSON (a lot of results have been found, but for other programs only).
    places.SQLite (no result)
    bookmarkbackups (no result)
mrv9503t.default (no results. It is apparently the name of the file in question on my NEW computer).
    .default (338 results?)
    %AppData%\Mozilla (no result)
%AppData%\microsoft\windows\sendto (12 results, all related to Windows)
    E:\Users\ < user > \AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ < profile > (no result)
    E:\Users\ < user > (no result)
E:\Users (3 results, but none are named 'user')

I thought about it. I didn't not < user > and < profile > refers to the names on my computer. Once occurred to me, I managed to restore from a backup by following the instructions at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/restore-bookmarks-from-backup-or-move-them

I just bought new HP Pavilion a6547c desktop computer.  My old computer doesn't turn on.  Have hard drive in HP Tower.

    Hi DebbyO

Please download and install the fix from the following link.

Please check out the TakeOwnership.zip file on the desktop, and then double-click the InstallTakeOwnership.reg file to install it.  Then navigate to the folder that you are trying to access, right-click on the folder and click Take Ownership.

Now try to access the folder. You should be able to access the folder and view your files.

    Hi Crams.on.2nd,

Sorry for the inconvenience, fortunately there is an easy solution to your problem that will give you the back control of your files.
    1. go to the folder where the files are that your be locked

    2. right click on the folder and select "Properties" at the bottom of the drop down.

    3. the switch to the 'Security' tab, to the appearance of the background of a button that says something like 'Take ownership of the files' text may differ based on your version of windows.

    4. follow the instructions and click on your administrator account to the account listed.

    5. check the box that says 'Total control' then click on 'Apply' or 'Apply Changes '.

    6. just do it with the rest of the files that you cannot access and you can re - take control files

(Make sure you check "Apply to subfolders and files" on the application of the authorization for your account for reasons of convenience more.)

    7. your done! If you did everything right you will now be in control of your old files and be able to do what you want with them again!

If the problem persists or you will find difficult to follow instructions just let me know and I'll give more detailed instructions :)
Thanks for your time, hope this helps.

  • Cannot access the files from the internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead

I can't access the files from an internal hard drive that has been converted to drive external hard after the motherboard is dead. I think that my files are still there, as shown in the volume of the player volume ~ 500 gb which is almost completely full. But I can't access most files, including documents and settings. When I took 'ownership' of the folder, I could open the TI but then it showed everything that was in my documents and settings on the computer file I used to open it, not the documents of the car.

Uhm... I think the issue here is a misunderstanding of what you watch.

If you want to access your files from the old hard drive - you need to look in the right place.  If the old system was "Windows 7", "Documents and Settings" is the * wrong * place to look and "Users" would be the place to go.

You * will * take ownership and change permissions on ALL (you want to propagate to all subfolders/files when do - to save time) in order to get them properly.

New-->: Windows Vista/7 would have your files located in the directory 'Users' of the root of the drive - and then under your username.

    • \USERS\\Desktop\
    • \USERS\\Downloads\
    • \USERS\\Favorites\
    • \USERS\\Documents\
    • \USERS\\Music\
    • \USERS\\Pictures\
    • \USERS\\Videos\

    ... etc...

Documents and settings to WIndows Vista/Windows 7 is a symbolic link and would lead to what you see if you tried to use it.

Can I access on my iMac with MacBook cd drive

You can if share you it on the network.   But you need to enable the sharing of files on the CD while it is inserted in the Mac by reading the information in the file menu, select it in the Finder.      Unfortunately the MacBook not having Firewire or love at first sight, you cannot use Disk Mode target using the player.

It can be slow, is it a USB - C ethernet card or WiFi.    If you want to make sure you get the highest possible speed a USB optical drive should work fine.  http://www.MacSales.com/ made a few that actually work very well with Macs.
