  # You have need Vista compatible drivers - it's the only way it will work.  Installing bad drivers can even to hurt the unit or even your system to not try.  Get a new USB device that works with Vista, and has the correct drivers.

  I bought the Windows 10 Pro for $199 because everything I read said I couldn't upgrade Vista and had to buy a new license, but have not been able to find instructions on how to replace my Vista system on my HP laptop. I thought that I could just insert the USB drive and install, but now it seems like I'm either going to have to somehow upgrade to Windows 7 or (I thought) completely reformat the hard drive and install the new system.

  Before you do anything drastic, I could use some advice.  I tried to save my programs, but the backup system does not work too well and it keeps restart. I have now 3 diskettes to backup the system keeps calling #1 and #2 and back to #2 again.

  I now have to buy Windows 7, if I can find - and install it before I try to upgrade to Windows 10?

  Fortunately, the laptop is simply a backup machine to take on trips and all my work is mainly made of my desktop pc.

  Delete you the existing partition to do a clean install.

  There is no need to upgrade to 7, because it does not come for free.

  And as Microsoft sells more than 7, the price on amazon.com, etc went upwards, not downwards. for 7 as it is still a popular operating system and becomes more difficult to buy because of Microsoft slaughter sale of it.

  My personal thoughts are that if you > upgrade to 7 > then go to 10 > make problems for yourself
