I can't turn on my fire wall of Windows Vista.

I can't turn on my fire wall of Windows Vista. I tried all the usual methods to activate it. It sayes the service just does not work and it won't let me update the settings or reactivate it. Its really annoying. I have Windows Security Essentials, but no other firewall.

Hello AbigailBrown,

Do you get the codes error or just recommended service does not work?  Have you made changes on your computer before you start the this question?  New software or hardware?  I have included a link below on the Windows Vista firewall.

    Hello

-Remember to make changes to your computer, after which the issue started?

I would recommend that you follow these steps and check if the problem persists.

    Step 1:

Start your computer in safe mode.

    Step 2:

If the computer starts in safe mode, there must be a third party software that is causing the problem to occur, this is why I suggest you put your computer in a clean boot state.

Note: Put your computer in normal mode (step 7).

    Step 3:

If you haven't already done so, I would say doing a full scan on your system.

The issue here is not one of which version of Windows you are using.
It is one of what you have installed applications.

The answer is Yes, if you have WordPerfect (or some compatible)
program) installed on Windows Vista. The answer is no, if you do not.

After reviewing the issue, put the computer into Normal mode.
Uninstall or update the program that is causing the problem.

If this does not work, let us try to restore your computer to a previous state of safe mode.
Follow the instructions below to restore your computer to a previous state.

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
    2. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password, or click on continue.
    3. in the System Restore dialog box, click Next.
    4. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created at least a week before the current date, and then click Next.

Note: If you do not find a restore point that is aged for at least a week, select the first point of restoration that is available.
    5. click on finish.
    6. the computer restarts. The system files and settings are returned to the State they were when the restore point was created.

Check whether the problem is resolved.

I suggest that you create a restore point before you follow the instructions below.
How to manually create a restore point?

1 open the system by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then click System.
    2. in the left pane, click System Protection. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3. click on the tab System Protection and then click on create.

In the System Protection dialog box, type a description, and then click on create.

You can also try to remove the entry by using bcdedit command in Vista by following the links below.
    1. click on start.
    2. type cmd and click with the right button on cmd.exe to select run as administrator.
    3. Enter the following text.

    bcdedit [{ID}] /deletevalue datatatype

The {ID} is the GUID associated with the start-up input. If you do not specify a {ID}, the command changes the current operating system boot entry. If a boot entry is specified, the GUID associated with the start-up input must be enclosed in braces {}. To view the GUIDs for all active startup entries, use the bcdedit/enum command.

  • How can I get the old search wizard on windows vista/windows 7?

Original title: bringing research research assistant, new bad engine

    Dear all.

I like Windows XP search assistant as if worked as an engine of 'real' research, for example, bing, google and search keywords.
The current one is too basic to windows vista and windows 7 is rubbish and doesn't like the old.

How can I get the old search wizard on windows vista/windows 7?  If I can't do it, how I'd get that to happen?

  • I can't turn on my firewall, error: Firewall Windows cannot change some of your settings Error code: 0 x 80070424

My firewall is off, I went to control panel to turn it on and it comes up saying "Windows Firewall cannot change some of your settings Error code: 0 x 80070424" any ideas how to fix or what's goin'?

    Hello

What do you use for security?

If you are using an Internet Security Suite, it will have its own firewall and disables the default Windows Firewall.

And you should have only one firewall to avoid problems related to the operating system.

    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Malware to disable your firewall and your safety programs.

Scan of Malware in Safe Mode with network.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-Windows-in-safe-mode/#Vista

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Boot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

Once in Safe Mode with network, download and run RKill.

RKill does NOT remove the malware; It stops the Malware process that gives you a chance to remove it with your security programs.

Then, download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware in Mode safe mode with networking:

  • Mode of continuous reboot after an unsuccessful attempt, how can I return to a functional version of windows (Vista or 7)?

I tried to upgrade to Windows 7 Vista SP1 from a disk of retail bought at Costco.  I received an unsuccessful installation and everything seems to be ok with a rolling Vista.  I woke up this morning to my system stuck in reboot mode.  I can't even Windows Safe Mode to work.  What can I do to get back to Vista?  I promise you that I'll never try to update again... Please help.

    Hi HelpPleaseWindows7,

Thanks for visiting the site of Microsoft Windows Vista Community!

    (1) remove any external devices like floppies, CD, flash, printers and computer DVD drives and restart.
    (2) If this helps not to start your computer, use the Vista installation cd
    (3) try to get the error message by disabling "auto restart in case of system failure"

If you have a Windows Vista installation disc:
    Insert the installation disc.
    Restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.
If you are prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
    Note
If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer. You may need to change your computer's BIOS settings. For more information, see BIOS: frequently asked questions.

Choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    Click on repair your computer.

In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem, and if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.
If the Startup Repair tool is an option of recovering preinstalled on your computer:
Remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.
Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.
    Do one of the following:
If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.
If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
In the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight repair your computer and press ENTER. (If repair your computer is not listed as an option, then your computer does not include startup as a preinstalled recovery option repair).
Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
Select a user name and password, and then click OK.
In the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup Repair. Startup Repair can invite you to make choices as it tries to solve the problem and, if necessary, it may restart your computer, because it makes the repairs.
