I caused records and other icons to disappear from my office. Please help me to find and recover them.

After having inadvertently highlighted a group of icons, instead of only the expected, on my desk, I dragged all of them to try to put them in a folder on my desktop.  The destination folder and icons that I dragged on, as well as, it seems, a little more icons all disappeared.  Have a solution that I can use?  Thank you.

Have a solution that I can use?  Thank you.

I could do this:

  1. Open Windows Explorer.
  2. Open the C:\Users\Liz folder.
  3. Right click on the Desktopfolder.
  4. Click on the line to restore the previous version.
  5. Follow the prompts to set the desktop back to its previous state in good health.

My photos are imported in windows photo gallery, then they automatically in 'my images' where I can put them in individual cases.  I decided to remove some photo gallery, but now, they have also disappeared from my photos.  How can I get back them?

If they were on a sd card use recuva to recover the files.

These files can only be set to hidden,

Massive rearmament of the hidden attributes can be done by right clicking the (my photos) entry in the folder tree section and select Properties, general tab, select the hidden check box and click on apply, this will change all files to hidden, click Yes, and then uncheck the hidden box and if applied, it will remove the attribute hidden all your files, click Yes and then save.

  • Some user icons have disappeared from the Office

I use a Sony Vaio laptop running Vista business with Service Pack 2.

Earlier today, most of the icons on my desktop disappeared. Who else is shortcuts in the folder C:\USERS\PUBLIC\DESKTOP.  Those who have disappeared are those of C:\USERS\MYNAME\DESKTOP.  When I look in this file by using Solution Explorer, all the files are still present. It's just you display the icon on the desktop that is missing.

I am connected to my usual account that has administrator privileges.  Office properties are set to "Show desktop icons" and "snap to grid".

Earlier today, I installed an update of AVG Internet Security and performed a full scan, but can't say for sure if the disappearance of the icons has coincided with this.

It seems that the system is linking the visible office with the files in the Public folder, but not those in my personal file.

I tried to restore the system to the earlier dates, but this did not restore desktop layout.

Can anyone tell how to recover? Help will be very appreciated.

    Hi Jessen

    Thanks for your reply.

In fact, it became obvious that the registry has been damaged.  I restored the registry to a previous state by using a backup, and that solved the problem.

    Thank you for your suggestions.

  • backup hd disappeared from the Office

Today, I received a message that does not have my Time Machine backup.  While they inspected out, I find that my HD internal backup icon has disappeared from my office.  Yikes!  How find it & get it back?  I run first aid disk backup and the Info window says "not mounted."  However, he finds the disk in the finder window,

I would add that the first aid app takes a long time and the small progress bar indicates no progress at all.  "He's been on: checking multiple related files" forever.

  • CD/DVD writer disappeared from the Office

I'm new to this, so please be patient. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium OS on a Dell XPS M1210 laptop. I tried to burn my first DVD. A window appeared in windows media player, saying that I had to install a burner/player. The ICON for the drive disappeared from my office. I can't find anything anywhere. I had just finished burning files to a CD - R disc in the 'Master Disc' configuration, with success. Dell support site is down at the moment.

I can't find any software for the drive. You can use some of your skills!

  • Volume control icon has disappeared from the notification area and unable to change.

Original title: missing Volume control on the speaker/icon

My volume control icon disappeared from my office. On my notification area icons > system icons, the volume icon is set to 'off' and grayed out so I can't change it. I did NOT choose this option. It just happened when I turned on my computer this morning and had no sound and no "speaker" icon appearing in my bar tasks, like she normally does.  In addition, my notifications area icons is set to DISPLAY the volume control on the taskbar, but it does not show.  Restarting my computer did not help.  What can I do to get this to redisplay the taskbar? Fortunately, I can always manually volume by going to control panel, sounds, speakers, level and make it work, but it's too long. I need to be able to turn the volume on and off quickly.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium. Thanks for any help that can be given.

Thank you very much for your answer!

The answers to your three questions are No, Yes, and No. miraculously, when I turned on my computer this morning, the icon is back!  I'm sorry that you have to spend so much time explaining what to do, but at least I'll have your answer to see if it never happens again, and maybe it can help someone else.  I doubt I'm the only person never to happen.  Once again, thank you!

  • Volume shortcut icon has disappeared from the Vista tray

Volume shortcut icon has disappeared from my status bar at the bottom of the screen... How do I get it back?
Seems silly, but I can't find it!

    Hello

Have you checked the settings in the taskbar and Start Menu Properties?
There should be a tab named Notification area.

In this tab, you find an option; Hide inactive icons.
You can turn off (disable) this device or you can customize it.
In addition, you can choose which icons should be available and shows even the Hide inactive icons option would be activated.

In some cases, these options may be grayed out
In this case, you will need to find a registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify

and here you have to delete the keys: + IconStreams + and + PastIconStream +.

Thanks for sharing everything you already tried... any information help so avoid redundant orientation.

Please, dig deeply and carefully on all the home screen panels, subfolders, etc... It is easy to accidentally move an icon to a different location. Also, you dig, please make sure that "Show all" is active, just in case you've hidden inadvertently to the icon.
