  Go to Microsoft's download page and select the download appropriate for your operating system, then save it on your PC.  Then, run the update from your PC and see if it will install manually.  If you still have the error and then perform a clean boot and test again.  Let us know the results.

  I am trying to install a printer HP deskjet F4180 to a new computer. Computer Dell inspiron 1764, OS 64 bit, core i3, 4 GB Ram, 500 GB hard drive.   It seems to be a problem with Windows Installer. Try the steps suggested below and check if that helps.

  Method 1:

  You may need to unregister and re-register Windows Installer. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. click on the ORB 'Start '.

  2. Type "cmd" in the box start search

  3. right click on "cmd" program and choose "Run as Administrator"

  4. in the command prompt window type:
  msiexec /Unregister and press "Enter."

  5. then type:
  /register msiexec and press "ENTER."

  6. then type "exit" and press "enter."

  Now try to install the update and check if that helps.

  Method 2:

  You can check what updates failed to install, uninstall them completely and try to reinstall one at a time.
