I have vista ultimate, 64-bit running. I can change it to 32 bits? What is the difference?

All of my programming is 32 bit, what difference is there?

Here's a FAQ on 32-bit and 64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare/32-bit-64-bit-faq.aspx.

Here is an article designed to help you to choose: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/products/64-bit.

Here another article on making this choice: http://www.techspot.com/guides/177-windows-install-32bit-64bit/.

If most of your programs are 32-bit, I can see why you would want to change to 32 bit (although many work on 64 bit systems as well).  Do not forget to change, you need to do a clean install - which means that you need a full install disk and not a upgrade disk (you can update or fix) so you need to backup your data, but all your programs and settings will be lost and you will need to reinstall and reconfigure their (and this includes all Windows updates).  Indeed, there is no way to "convert" 64-bit to 32-bit without a clean install.  In addition, you may need to reinstall some of your device drivers if they are not included on the disc.  It is impossible for the manufacturer's recovery disc (he wears only the version of Vista) - you need to purchase a full commercial copy (well, I withdraw that - the manufacturer may be willing to selll you the recovery disc for the operating system 32-bit if they are available, so you should check with them).  You will also need a new product key to go with these new recovery disks, like the one on your machine is for the 64-bit system.

Also, you will need a 32-bit processor to replace the processor 64-bit on your system - you should be able to get one of the manufacturer (or of several points of sale as long as you KNOW it is compatibile with your system and your motherboard - wrong that can FRY as well as your system.)

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

PS My humble opinion, the 64-bit system can be quite a bit faster according to the task at hand to work with databases (but a lot or you're likely to use most will work at approximately the same speed) and can do more things at the same time (because it can accommodate more RAM) , but there are a lot of compatibility issues with software and hardware.  I'll stick with my 32-bit system quite a bit longer - it does the job very well.  Since you already have a 64-bit processor and version of Vista, I would change only if you have problems running 32-bit programs you really need/want to run - if not, I see no reason to spend the money to convert - but it's your decision to make.

If the license for Windows 7 Ultimate, you have access to is an upgrade of retail full version or upgrade Express, you can use the product key and upgrade Express from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate. First of all, check that the edition of Windows 7, you are upgrading is already enabled (if it isn't, you will encounter complications and that you might start all by performing a clean installation). Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, click on the option enter a key, enter the key of Windows 7 Ultimate edition at the request, click Next, wait while checking the key, accept the license agreement, click on upgrade, wait while the software upgrades, (it may take 10 minutes or more depending on the if updates are required) your computer restarts automatically, after the reboot, Windows 7 will notify you updating the computer, the computer will restart once more automatically and will be completed the upgrade, a window will appear notifying the upgrade was successful and your computer is ready to use, click Close, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate files the stored settings and programs.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit goes to a black screen after login. Completely insensitive.

I seem to have a problem similar but different enough to justify a new thread. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit, and after the connection, I get a black screen with a cursor that can move normally. However, it becomes more complicated as everyone else. Absolutely NO work of access keys at this point, ctrl-shift-esc, ctrl-alt-delete, windows-r, don't SHIFT five times, NOTHING that other threads have suggested. I can't do anything but restart the computer once it reaches that point.

This is where it gets weird. Regular Safe Mode actually works for me, but is not the Mode safe mode with networking. There has been absolutely no sign of difficulty with this computer before that. I already have Malwarebyte Anti-Malware, it has been updated yesterday. I checked for ntndis in the registry, nothing. I uninstalled my video drivers, now, I have to reinstall because it wasn't the problem. System Restore was only a restore point on March 1, which did nothing even though the computer was working fine, March 1. I do not have the Windows disc, I split the cost with a friend who's in Arizona that I know, and he has probably lost the drive now.

Please help, my office is useless like this. I'm on a laptop, and I have a 512 MB USB key, if something needs to be downloaded on the desktop.

    Gearrunner,
I have Windows 7 32-bit last month.  I installed the demo of HAWX and he ran a program compatibility Wizard after installation.  He showed that DirectX 10 has been installed.  When I run DXDiag, I also show DirectX 11.  Now, I have installed DirectX 9 .0c on this machine.  Then you can try to install it and see if that makes a difference.

    DirectX 9 .0c

Of course now that I've tried the demo you have shot me in another game I have to play.  :)

  • I am running vista ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit so the disk and to install 64-bit on a new PC.

Salvation as above I am currently running Vista Ultimate 32 bit and have just bought a new computer that is running a 64-bit system, I have a product OPS windows genuine containing both 32 & 64-bit disc. How can I disable the 32-bit to install a clean 64-bit on a new HARD drive. I intend to use a drive to kill to wipe the HARD drive on my old computer but have read that others have had the problem, reinstall the 64-bit version as windows will not activate the license, any help or advice on this would be really appreciated.

    Hello

    Just clean the disk.

There is no way to disable the function.

And phone Activation may be necessary when you do what you do.

You'll probably have to explain to a real person.

What to is explained in the link.

  • How is good compared to windows security essentials windows Defender I run vista ultimate 64 bit

When I run security essentials on my vista ultimate 64 bit pc that I do not in the Add Remove programs and stop some programs from running at startup to the top is normal, because it is not happened on my old windows xp,

MSE (microsoft security essentials) stops Windows | Defender.

Therefore, you will not be able to access Windows Defender in order to change some startup programs.

If this is your problem, here's another way to go to start programs...

Start > Search box, type msconfig > press enter > at the top, click on start > here is the list of startup programs.

To disable, uncheck the box in front.

    Press OK when finished.

    > I can't enter in Add Remove programs...
    Why not?

In Vista, it called programs and features, not add/remove.

  • Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit product key

I bought an upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit used one month without the product key. I have two more days to activate windows. Anyone know where I can get a product key?

    Hello

    Microsoft sells more than Vista.

You will have to take a chance and buy a DVD / a license on Amazon, eBay, etc.

Be careful when you run the risk of buying pirated software.

Amazing!  I have already mentioned that I lived the problem of the "feature Windows empty window.  Seeing that my initially reported problem and seemed to have similar signs and given that I had a clear explanation on how to solve this problem, I did it - and these two problems are now history.

In the two following links, you will find the description and method to solve the problem of the 'empty Windows feature window' and (b) a method for appropriating errant registry entries.

  • How can I repair the registry system for Vista Ultimate 32-bit.

How can I repair the registry for Vista Ultimate 32-bit system, is a tool of the recommended tool to do this, because all the third-party software that claims to do this is not worth the money they charge. I was infected with the vista security 2012 the virus. I was able to restore some of the registry entries through Microsoft help forums. com But here's my problem, registry entries to the windows firewall and the Defender disappeared completely and there's probally that I don't know everything yet. I prefer not to do a fresh install of the operating system if I can avoid it. I'm currently only essentials of security installed on my desktop and have run the Microsoft - 1.0.30010 security scanner, also, I ran malware bytes, but like I said my registry has been corrupted by the virus and must be repaired.

    Hello

    You are welcome.

Before considering the upgrade to Windows 7, there are a lot of things to consider.

See if Dell has Windows 7 drivers for your model computer.

    http://www.Dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/NeedProductSelection

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?ID=20

And also to use the Windows 7 Compatibility Center.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/compatibility/Windows-7/en-us/default.aspx

To your original problem, you can try this scan:

"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

The only problem is that it do not work if you have serious problems of file system.

That's when you need Installion repair to fix things with a Microsoft DVD as above or replace the files, but you still need this DVD. Catch 22!

Try it and see how you go with it.

    See you soon.

    Hello Holywood82002,

Thank you for posting.  I have additional information for you.  I have a very similar setup as you do.  You are your system running at its full potential.  It is enough what will use all your resources of computers at a time.  Short run many graphic programs (Maya, 3d Studio Max and Photoshop), while Media Player (fully loaded with media) in the background and a game all at the same time (so I did), you won't exploit fully all 8 GB of ram at any given time.  I could barely within just 4 gigs.  The only reason why your system uses same 3.5 GB of ram is because SuperFetch Vista function caching your file exchange and frequently used programs in ram, which is very effective for memory management.

HolyWood then, do not hesitate to smile because you have very good computer. Zack
