  • Problem with the latest Vista Service Pack Update

Recently, I have intalled SP2 on my computer.  It seems to work very well on my desktop, but when I installed it on my laptop, it went through step 3 Setup (after the break).  At this point, it says it installs and shows 0% installed for several minutes, date at which it says stop, then it restarts and goes to step 3 Installing and this all over again.  I read in the installation it would probably close and restart the computer several times.  However, after about 3 hours of this continuous stop and restart, I get the same result.

I had to hard boot the computer date to which I tried to restart in 'Safe Mode '.  I thought take it back to a restore point and forget the update.  However, it continues to do the same thing and so I'm TOTALLY unable to use my laptop.  HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!

    Hi TM1Designer,

Try the method below and check if this help.

Method 1: Perform the clean boot your computer.

From your computer by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs so that you can determine if a background program is interfering with your game or program. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot".

To perform a clean boot on a computer, follow these steps.
    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.
    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.
    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.
    5. click on OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.
    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

Please follow the system in the boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to an application or a service, we have disabled. You can use the MSCONFIG tool again to reactivate the disabled one by one element to find the culprit.

If your issue is resolved, follow the how to determine what is causing the problem section in KB article to narrow down the exact source.

    For more information visit: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796

After you determine the startup item or the service that is causing the problem, contact the manufacturer of the program to determine if the problem can be solved. Or, run the System Configuration utility, and then click to clear the check box of the element of the problem.

To restore your computer to a Normal startup mode, follow these steps:

    1. click on start in the box start the search.
    2. type msconfig and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or provide confirmation.

    3. on the general tab, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers and services and then click OK.
    4. When prompted, click on restart.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Windows Vista business is update, download and installation; even when the update is set to manual.

I put the manual update manually. But despite this it keeps update, download and installation. Sometimes I turn off a few updates and suddenly, after a few hours, these unwanted updates begin to update! This is a joke, very annoying and the invasion of privacy!

    Hello

My windows is not working. Whenever I tried to open a photo through the windows photo viewer. It shows an error massage.

And here's the screenshot of this massage...

So, I thought that there is something missing in the folder of windows photo viewer. And checked the file. And I saw that there is no file exe to the windows photo viewer. So, how it will run if there is no Executive file? After the second that tried to download this program net. It is not available anywhere. So please tell me how can I recover this file? How I open a photo through the windows photo viewer?

You must identify the program, the pilot or the malicious program that uses the host to consume resources, but these system related processes is not a good idea.

Read the technical notes for advanced malware cleaning (identifying your process) and download process explorer to help ID the source of the problem.

There are resources within Windows for process ID using the columns PID, but I think process explore might be easier for you to use.

original title: could not resolve the problem of Windows Vista Service Pack 2 update!

    Hey there,

I got Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 in my laptop when I bought it. Recently there was no updates of security (e.g., KB2481109) to install it into my system with a error: 80073712 and I had received a notification from windows to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2update. I tried to install it from windows update, but I got the error: 8024200d. I read the solution on this site and followed by download the stand-alone file and install "System Update Readiness Tool" (KB947821). ". After that I downloaded the standalone version "Windows Vista Service Pack 2" (KB948465) and tried to install it, but I got the error: 800f081f. "» I did Scan SFC which there is "no question of integrity" in the system, uninstalled "Avira Antivirus software" and again tried to install Service Pack 2 , but again, I've got the error: 80073712 After all this I couldn't solve the problem. Hi Electrocuteud,

You have access to a Windows Vista installation disc? If so, follow the steps in this document to perform an InPlace upgrade. This will reinstall Vista without making any changes to the files and programs on the computer. Even if your data and programs must be safe, it is always advisable to make sure that you have a recent backup before major changes on the computer.

    Hello

Please follow the steps mentioned below to help resolve the problem with the installation of the service pack.

    Method 1

Start your computer in a clean boot

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Make sure that you follow step 7 of the article mentioned above to set the Normal upward Start computer after troubleshooting is completed.

Try to install the service pack.

    Method 2

Run a System File Checker tool

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

    Method 3

Reset the contents of Catroot2 folder / rename the software distribution folder

    Step 1

Reset the contents of the Catroot2 folder

    a. type the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

    ·         net stop cryptsvc

    ·         MD %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old

    ·         xcopy %systemroot%\system32\catroot2.old /s %systemroot%\system32\catroot2

    b. remove all content of the catroot2 folder, but do not delete the catroot2 folder.

    c. type the following command and press ENTER:

    net start cryptsvc

    d. close the window command prompt

    Step 2

    Rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

    a. open a window prompt administration commands.

    b. run the following commands and press ENTER after each command:

    ·         Net stop wuauserv

    ·         CD %SystemRoot%\System32

    ·         Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ·         Net start wuauserv

    Try to install updates again.

Important When you use this method, the following problems occur:

    ·  Updates that are currently downloaded but which have not yet been installed must be downloaded again by using Windows Update or Microsoft Update.

    ·  When you remove the Software Distribution folder, your download history is deleted.

    ·  If you currently receive updates from Microsoft Update and Windows Update, you will need to reselect this option from the Windows Update Web site.

Note If the problem is resolved and you can successfully download and install the updates, you can safely remove the SoftwareDistribution.old folder to recover disk space.

Restart the computer and verify if you are able to install the Service pack.

    Method 3

You can also run as the automated fix this program to reset the Windows Update components.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

322756 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/) how to back up and restore the registry in Windows

    Method 4

Alternatively, you can try to install the stand-alone version of the Service pack and check if it installs fine

    Hope this information helps.
