  I had this problem too and couldn't find an answer: what I found was that I tried to install and failed.   When I looked in the C:\ drive, I found a temporary installation directory.   Here's what I did to clean:

  (1) keys to success (Windows + R) and type c:\ (or whatever your system drive is)

  (2) look for a folder named WINDOWS $. ~ BT

  (3) Rt click on the folder and rename to OLD_ WINDOWS$. ~ BT (it won't erase without admin perms, so you'll need to clean it up later.

  (4) to open the Task Manager (click on rt on the Windows Start bar, select Task Manager)

  (5) find and select "Installation of Windows 8 (2)" or "Installation of Windows 8.

  (6) choose end task

  Result:

  Try running the installer again and see if it works now.   If so, when you're all finished, don't forget to go back on your C: drive and delete the OLD_$ WINDOWS. ~ BT Directory

  If Sims Setup calls for another drive then I guess it's looking for a second installation disk or it has encountered an error and can not read the disk it uses currently.  Make sure your disc is clean and Unscratched.  If yes you can check with the Support of EA , because they are the creators of The Sims.   If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.

  To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
