  I suggest that you follow these steps and check if the problem persists.

  Step 1:

  Test the issue in safe mode with network.

  Step 2:

  If it works fine in safe mode with network, turn on your computer in a clean boot State and check if the problem persists.

  Note: Don't forget to restart your computer as usual.l.

  Step 3:

  Problem can be linked to a malware infection, I would have you download, install and run Microsoft Safety Scanner and check if the problem persists.

  Trial and error looks like the only way to solve this problem.
  I recommend trying to disable Flashblock or fast Java extensions first.

  If error not working, reply to this message and we will have to try some combinations.

  Why can't click a picture in the mail app and have it launch a photo viewing application. ?

  What you need to do is to go to control panel > programs > by default of the programs > set your default programs. Or search for programs by default, which must raise I have right as well (just start typing on the splash screen or slide from left to right and click on the search button).
