  I don't know, I never disabled Gadgets myself as I like the gadget to use CPU/RAM. But Microsoft recommended disabling some time ago. Maybe, if they are disabled is the effect it gives?

  Gadgets Windows 7 may stop working or may not display properly. For example, gadgets can be displayed as follows:

  Right-click on the desktop. Select Gadgets and the gadget gallery will be displayed. All the installed gadgets show be here as an icon with the right button on the specific gadget, that you want to remove from your desktop and select uninstall. That should do it.
