  • Restoring an incremental backup Windows 7

This may seem a stupid question, but it's confusing in the interface.  I want to restore my backup files of the Windows (from the control panel).  There are two dates when I did a backup of Windows.  When I go through the Restore Wizard, he mentions the 'backup period' and makes it sound as if the restoration will contain only the difference between these two dates.

This means that if I want to restore all my files, I must first restore the previous backup and then restore it later, so that I can get those files that changed between two backups?

Or if I just restore the most recent backup, Windows automatically give me all files that have been backed up?

    Hello

    1. have you deleted all the files between two backups?

    2. what kind of backup do you have?

If you deleted all the files between old and recent backup, this file is not there in the recent backup. If you have a full backup of the system, all files on the computer that the precise date will be there in the backup.

See the article and check if that helps.

Yes, it's the complete installation, of course, if this is the upgrade license, you must have a qualifying version of Windows installed (XP, Vista, Windows 7, or even Windows 8 to use).

I suggest avoid you the Windows backup program and you get a good commercial backup program. This forum meets for a windows problem reports. I know that I was very impressed when I tried it. Three I'm familiar with and like Norton Ghost (which I use for 8 years no 1 problem), Easeus Todo Backup free, you can download it from

http://www.TODO-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm and Memeo , which has 30 day free trial and you can buy it for $29.99 - you can download it from http://memeo.com . You can get Ghost for almost nothing (like me), if you look at the sales.

The March 2012 issue of PC World has been very high on the program FREE of Easeus and CNET. I've tested it recently in a variety of configurations; and must say that I am very impressed. • Updates to backup windows. Is this possible?

I'll do a new installation of my Windows Vista and have backed up all of my essential programs and data. I would like to know if there is a file location specific for the updates of Windows I could backup to CD / DVD so that I would'nt download hundreds of MB of updates. Is this possible without cloning or make an image of my drive HARD, thank you.

    Is this possible? Yes.

It would be convenient, especially in Vista or Win7? No.: updates MUST be installed in a certain order and no Service Pack must be installed unless & until it is offered through Windows Update.

HOW to do a clean install of Vista: see the "to install Windows by performing a clean install" (or "reinstall Windows Vista") http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista article

NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

VERY IMPORTANT! =>  No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the removal tool appropriate prior to installing the updates, Windows Service Packs or IE upgrades AND BEFORE installing your new antivirus application (for example,Microsoft Security Essentials -free).

  • Backup Windows will not open

When I try to start the Windows backup or by going into Start Programs/Accessories/backup or by double-clicking the backup file, I am interested in the restoration of I get a small blank window with the title "backup utility".  The Task Manager shows that the ntbackup.exe process is running, but it is does accumulate no time CPU and do no readings or writings.

I will try to reinstall the program, but since I have XP Pro instead of XP Home my Windows CD doesn't have the '\ValueAdd\Msft\Ntbackup on the CD folder '.

Any suggestions on why ntbackup.exe behaves this way?  Is it possible to get the installer ntbackup so I can reinstall?

I don't know if it's important or not, but last year I installed Norton Security Suite, which includes its own backup utility.  Unfortunately, its default filters save the Directory Application Data that I need to restore, where my need to use the utility backup window.

    Hi MalcolmDavis,

The Windows backup utility is already built into Windows XP Professional. Try these steps and check the result.

Step 1: Run SFC (System File Checker) scan to see if all the system files are missing or corrupt
    a. Click Start, click Run, type cmd and click ok.
    b. at the command prompt, type sfc/scannow and press ENTER.
    c. If you are prompted, enter the Windows XP CD in order to complete the scan.
Note: The version of the service pack on CD must match the version of the service pack installed on the computer.
    d. restart the computer and check the difference.

    See Windows XP Scan SFC

Step 2: If the problem persists, check if you can run backup in safe mode to see if another program is causing the problem in normal mode
    a. see the Description of the Mode of course in Windows XP startup options
    b. in the menu advanced startup options select Safe mode and press on enter.
    c. check to see if you can run backup.

Step 3: If the problem does not persist in safe mode, check if a non-Microsoft program is causing the problem
see How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State .
    b. in the article, follow the method 1 and method 2 to find out if any program is causing the problem.
    c. Once you have found the culprit that is the program that is causing the problem, then uninstall it.

Note: Article, remember to follow 'steps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state. "

  • In the BIOS boot order stopped showing my external DVD player

I use a laptop HP Compaq presario V3000 series, model no. V3018TU. I use a DVD drive with her as my internal DVD player does not work properly.

External DVD drive functions correctly after windows starts. The problem is that he displayed in the boot order. I want to install Ubuntu alongside with XP. I am not able to give priority to installing Ubuntu on boot as it is not showing in the boot order. After starting my laptop, it starts to load XP.

That's what I was doing just before this problem arose. Everything was fine. I was installing Ubuntu along side Windows XP my laptop and in-between the installation got stuck and my hard drive was not working when I rebooted, I made my hard drive to work somehow and then I found another problem, i.e.my external DVD drive is not showing in the boot order. All the other things i.e.my hard drive, internal DVD player (does not work correctly) etc., appear but except for my external DVD player. I need my external DVD player to display in the boot order to install ubuntu.

Help me fix the problem. Thanks in advance.

  • can upgrade you vista Home premium to vista professional in order to install windows 7 Professional upgrade?

Husband bought the windows 7 Professional upgrade.  Of course when it did not work and the message was to do a "clean install", we both had type light headed as we thought it that will take all day and probably does not work smoothly since is the most "literate" computer.  I did some internet research and according to microsoft, windows vista business upgrade to windows 7 Professional is an upgrade and not a clean install.  Is it useful to try and uprade my 64-bit edition windows Home premium windows vista professional in order to upgrade to windows 7 Professional?  I don't think we can get our money back because the packaging is open or I would say just that we trade it for ultimate.  If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.  Also I don't know even where to download vista business or haow only as much as it would cost.  Thanks in advance.

N ° there is no way to go from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional OR Vista business without what you call a 'clean install', so there is no point in spending money to upgrade to Home Premium to business before the upgrade to Windows 7 Professional.  Upgrade Vista Home Premium only allowed on-site is ultimate.

Use Windows Easy Transfer to keep your files and settings.  Then, start the computer with the Windows 7 dvd installation and moving forward.  Do not remove Vista.  Windows 7 upgrade installation should detect a copy installed Windows so that you can use the upgrade product key.  Once you reach the installation type selection screen, you will see the upgrade option is grayed out.  Choose the custom option to continue.

If you want to do a clean install, you can use the tools on the installation type selection screen (until you click on custom) to reformat, etc., but this is not necessary if you don't mind remove the old Windows folder later.  If you start with a blank hard drive your upgrade license will be a problem then don't attempt is not a clean install of the old way.
