I received a "popup" to update Firefox, it was ligit?

I received this "popup" who said that I had to click to update Firefox, because "I am at risk." I didn't proceed/click because I thought that the updates are performed automatically. Should I have clicked on this "popup"?

If you get a pop-up message asking to put plugins or Firefox updated or anti-malware analysis then this message probably is a scam and you should never respond to such reporting to avoid being infected by malware.

  • Don't update Firefox via "> about" or by downloading and installing Firefox from Mozilla and server never using a popup or a link on a web page.
  • Plugins should be updated only through the plugin itself, or by visiting the home page of the plugin.

    Yes.

If he has problems with the update or the permissions then simpler is to download the full version and trash the version currently installed to do a clean install of the new version.

Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the file on the desktop disk image (dmg)

    • Install the new version you downloaded

  • Is it still possible to update Firefox by installing a MAR file manually? It seems properly update files, but do not update the registry keys in Windows...

Hi, I need to update Firefox on multiple computers where I work. So, after reading this article, https://wiki.mozilla.org/Software_Update:Manually_Installing_a_MAR_file, I have prepared my file containing the complete update (Full MAR 36.0) and the file updater.exe. Then, I run the following command with no problems.

    Updater.exe C:\Temp\FirefoxUpdate\ ' %ProgramFiles% (x 86) %\Mozilla Firefox ' "%ProgramFiles% (x 86) %\Mozilla Firefox '.

In the log file update.status that I see "successful." I then launch Firefox to check if everything is in order and indeed the program has been updated to version 36.0. Good! But, when I go in "Add/Remove Program" in the control panel (Windows 7 Ent SP1 x 64 French) line still says that I have the 35.0.1 older version installed. Is this normal? If I manually start the update, using the full installer of Firefox, or if I update Firefox by using the update search in the "about Firefox" then everything works correctly, including the "Add/Remove program. Could someone please confirm that there is indeed a problem?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Could you please help me with possible advice/guidance on how to solve this problem? This is the second time that, always happens when Firefox receives updates...

You seem to be using the Developer edition / Aurora pre-release version, which creates a new profile after installation or update on the Aurora channel. Open Options > general and check or uncheck the box at the top that says allow Firefox Developer Edition and Firefox to run at the same time. Once you restart [as to] you will 'switch' on the other profile, where your bookmarks are - If all goes well.

If you don't like "updates", why do you use a version alpha-2 who receives an update every day?

  • I auto-updated on, are the "Please update firefox" windows pop up I make me sent to various websites a kind of fraud?

Every so often, I get redirected to a page asking me to "Please update firefox. Are these popups annoying actually Firefox asking me to update, or that they are someone else, trying to make me download malware, spyware or advertising under the guise of a fraudulent Firefox update?

  • I do need to update Firefox if I run Waterfor?

I run Waterfox (just updated). When I look at plugins, modules, etc., the site says that Firefox is not updated. I do need to update Firefox as well as Waterfox?

Waterfox can look like Firefox to many sites due to the way in which he gives an account of his identity. In this message, your browser sent:

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x 64; ( rv:40.0) Firefox/40.1.0 Gecko/20100101 Waterfox/40.1.0

    By comparison, sends Firefox (32-bit):

    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; ( rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0

As many sites probably overlook the Waterfox part.

If you use Firefox it should update itself, or you can use the help > about Firefox to trigger an update check. But if you're not using Firefox, there is no urgent need to update.

I don't know why Waterfox is so far behind in updates, but...

There are security software such as Avast and Kaspersky that intercepts secure connections and sends its own certificate.

If you have Avast then try disabling the analysis of HTTPS in the Web Shield, Avast.

If you cannot inspect the certificate by "I understand the risks", then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" this URL chrome by pasting into the address bar of Firefox and check the certificate:

    • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.XUL

In the field of location of this window, type or paste the URL of the Web site.

    • retrieve the certificate via the button 'Get certificate '.
    • Click on the "view..." button. "to inspect the certificate in the certificate display

You can check details such as the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the certificate display.
Check which is the issuer of the certificate.
If necessary, you can attach a screenshot that shows the display of the certificate.

It is possible that your security (firewall, antivirus) software blocks or limit Firefox or the process of plugin-container without you inform, possibly after the detection of changes (update) for the Firefox program.

Delete all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container in the permissions list in the firewall and allow your firewall to ask permission to get access full and unrestricted, again to install for Firefox and the plugin-container and the update process.
