I reformatted my computer dell windows 98 and when came the newspaper in all that came was guest with a password account. I can't connect at all.
When I was installing windows. updated Shell32.dll at the point. I chose click try again several times and im guessing it worked cause he kept copy of files after that.
Is this a genuine Windows XP CD? Your cd may be dirty or damaged, or it can be caused by bad memory. See here for a list of things that can cause file copy errors: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?id=kb;en-us; Q310064
Run a memory test on the machine, if the RAM is OK and if copy errors persist you can try to install a flat folder. To install from a flat folder see instructions here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315349 and here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307848/EN-US

My work computer Dell, Windows 7 locks when coming out of sleep/hibernation mode.
In order to get on the "locked mode", I have to remove ALL power to include battery, and then restart the computer. Any thoughts?
I guess that Windows Update works fine on your PC.
Hardware devices are part of that Windows requires to function, these devices are examined by Windows as soon as it starts so they could explain your hibernation problems.
See the errors related to the Description Code 10, which generates the Device Manager in Windows computers
I expect that the Dell LAN driver download, then install them would solve the problem. Dell driver downloads are exe files that you run to install them. This facility is expected to replace whetever causes them to malfunction unless, of course, the material itself is faulty in which case you should check in your BIOS disable them so that Windows doesn't bother checking them. To enter your BIOS, press F2, as soon as the Dell logo is displayed during startup.

I want to delete old backup files. Some of these files have a virus in them. If I completely delete these files and run a new backup it will accomplish what I want.
I asked a similar question on the removal of all my backup files in my hard drive external and asked if I would get a full file backup or just backup incemental.
I asked this question to Windows Vista, IT Pro.
The answer is:
Windows uses something known as bits archive to determine if changes have been
to files.if you completely delete the contents of the backup media, then it should do a full backup has the following appendix, because at that time, windows has nothing to compare data from the computer with.Based on the response I received, you should have a backup of files complete "sound".

no further details required
You will not be able to read docx files in Word 97 as such, but you can download an alternative such as Open Office.
It's free and allows you to open and edit docx files. You can even save the file in a format that Word 97 can read if you particularly want to continue using Word 97.
The alternative would be to upgrade to a newer version of the office...

Restarting my computer (Dell... Microsoft XP), the system tries to install creative projects and requires the insertion of a CD that I don't have or want.
I tried all obvious ploys, but I can't always Cancel/remove this element which is a nuisance, because it prevents me to install other programs that I want to.Any other suggestions would be welcome.Original title: CREATIVE WINDOWSRobert,

the question.Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.
Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.Your CD or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

You must install Flight simulator on vista as well as Windows Xp and vista are two different operating systems.
You log in to vista, you may not use any of the XP application and vice versa.

My computer have Windows reloaded and now I can't access my e-mail stored previously in Windows Mail. How can I get back them?
You can try to search for *.eml, but if the disk has been formatted first, they will not be there. The files are also hidden, so make sure that you enable the display of hidden files and folders under control panel | Folder options | View. You can also check with those who 'reloaded' of Windows to see if they have backed up your data first.
See www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm for information on the message to save the data.
