I replaced my hard drive, now, when I enter my license OEM Windows rejects
Thus, Microsoft told me to contact Dell. Reference Dell tells me I'm a year out of warranty and they will not help. My original Dell OEM license is not accepted, what should I do? I am in my 60s on a fixed income and cannot afford to buy a whole new operating system... it's really unfair...
I think he was misinformed. I suspect that you will pay a fee you are out of warranty.

has had to reformat my hard drive now when he star0x0000007b (0x78d663c, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
has had to reformat my hard drive, now when I try to reinstall windows xp, I get a blue screen with this code at the end 0x0000007b (0x78d663c, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) how to solve this problemHello
I saw the 0x0000007B BSOD caused by trying to install XP on a disk hard while the BIOS is designating the reader as AHCI instead of IDE. XP has no native AHCI drivers, resulting in a stop 7B. Unless the PC had originally Vista or Win 7, but it might be useful to check that it is not likely.
If the BIOS is set to AHCI, you could do one of three things (depending on whether your PC has a floppy drive)...
1 find the Setup F6 disk on AHCI support at installation time (start with the manufacturer's website if you do not already have such a thing). Watch the very hit F6 prompt early in the installation process.
2. change the setting in BIOS on IDE / ATA
3. create a new "slipstreaming" installation disc drivers AHCI in the existing installation disc, see http://www.nliteos.com/index.html
After the back if your BIOS is IDE / ATA

I had to replace my hard drive and I only have a disk of windows XP Prof. Update My installation aborts because she wants is a full version. What should I do
You will need to borrow an installation disc to a former operating system Microsoft - Windows 95, 98 or me. There is no way around it. If person don't you know is an older drive, you can borrow for a few minutes, you will need, you will need to either buy a copy full XP or take the unit to a local computer professional to do the XP installation for you. Replaced the hard drive - now screen Intel Rapid Storage Tech comes first?
A couple of weeks ago, I replaced the hard drive in my laptop Pavilion dm4-3090se with a 240 GB Samsung SSD (the laptop came with a 500 GB Hybrid HDD which is now my backup).
Everything works fine, except when I first put it in, I get the screen shown in the image below and it takes a good 5 or 6 seconds before it closes and opens Windows. How can I make this screen go away?
You are running Windows 7 or Windows 8? I see that you still have the installed cache acceleration mSATA 32 gig drive and it has the Intel Rapid Storage, just off acceleration partition. Can you find the control panel Intel Rapid Storage and reformatting the drive to 32 gig Accelerator? It will look something like this:
I suggest also just remove acceleration 32 gig of hard drive. You have really no more. You can not acclerate a SSD and shouldn't do anyway since having a main SSD is still faster than having the accelerator. See page 44 of the Manual:
If it's 'the Answer' please click on 'Accept as Solution' to help others find it.

I replaced the 250 GB hard drive in my MacBook Pro early 2009 with a 500 GB drive, it the Mac OS extended (journaled) format and restored from my Time Machine backup.
Now when I try to start my Windows XP virtual machine (using Fusion 2.0.6... planning upgrade to 3.1.2 but wanted to validate all was well first), I get BSOD, even in safe mode.
I have my vm separately saved on a network drive data files based on things that I had read before, I do not think that TM backup of virtual machines. However, a friend with a similar setup with more knowledge I think because I could see my Windows XP vm VMWare listed under 'Documents' in Time Machine showing its full size, it has actually saved and there restore it. Apparently he has done this successfully before.
Should I have partitioned the hard drive? I don't think that my previous drive has been partitioned. Don't know what to do now.
TIA!
Katie
To be clear: you have restored VMs from the disk or network time Machine? And if the network drive, what backup method you use? (i.e.: have you just copied engine off the computer virtual package or not?) Can you copy/restore the virtual machine to the network again drive? What is a virtual machine that has the error, or other virtual machines have problems?
Time Machine backup correctly a virtual power off machine. But since Time Machine works automatically, you often will get not a consistent backup unless you do some tricks to make sure Time Machine backup only when you use a virtual machine. (i.e.: turn on Time Machine only when you're done with the virtual machine.) Thus, it is normally recommended to exclude the virtual machines from Time Machine and use another method to back up virtual machines. Your friend is lucky or is only backup virtual machines powered off.
Should I have partitioned the hard drive? I don't think that my previous drive has been partitioned. Don't know what to do now.
The Mac player Paritioning is unnecessary unless you use Boot Camp or have required another for the partition.

Hello.
I bought a copy of Windows 7 Edition student last year. I'm looking to replace my hard drive soon. I have to buy a new copy of the software?
No, you don't need to buy another copy, you can reinstall it on the new hard drive and turn it back on by phone if necessary:
How to activate Windows 7 manually (activate by phone)
1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
(2) press the ENTER"" key.
(3) select your "country" in the list.
(4) choose the option "activate phone".
(5) stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.
(6) explain your problem clearly to the support person.
http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/950929/en-usOr if you have an external hard drive, you can backup your Windows 7 installation and restore it on the new hard drive:

I plan to replace my current hard drive (which is functional, but not surprising in the first place) with a Solid State drive, which will help to my Alienware Area-51 m9750 notebook. I find a reader fully compatible solid state, but I'm not there purchase Alienware. I'm currently under Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit), and I still have the recovery DVD used to reinstall the operating system. I reformatted my hard drive several times using this disc, each time that the deletion of the whole score and starting from scratch. Every time I did it, I'm never asked to activate my copy of windows, mysteriously turned on when I boot on my new install of Windows for the first time, without even plugging the cable Ethernet first, and my house has no wireless network.
I wonder, if/when I install a new hard drive, will have a different experience somehow in regards to Windows activation? I'm unable to use my OEM of Windows copy at all? Alternatively, my windows mysteriously will activate itself without ever seeing the internet as it does now?
I love installing Windows and then do not need to activate it, and I hope I have that experience when I install my new hard drive.
I just want to know what to expect in terms of my ability to use my copy of Vista OEM, and what process I have to go through to make it fully functional.
Thank you very much!

The physical hard disk (solid state or record) is not serious for the operating system that is installed on. As long as the drive is a standard interface and does not require special drivers not work (and most don't), you should have no problem. The recovery disks you are using are set to read specific information about the motherboard and as long as there is this particular information, that it is looking she will be triggered and doesn't have to go online to activate as the retail of Windows is required to do. The only problem with this type of activation, it's that if the motherboard fails ever it should be replaced with a similar brand and model or autonomous activation fails and the operating system is an OEM version that is related to this motherboard and cannot be enabled on a newer replacement. -

When I replaced a hard drive, I wanted the same drive letter, but he wants me to take another. How can I assign the drive letter, that I replaced. The letter is now used by another device?
Open disk management, find the drive using the drive letter you want to use, change the drive letter of this to 'Z', find the new drive, change the drive letter that you want, and then change the drive letter of the drive you have labeled it 'Z' to a drive letter of your taste.

I see from my records that a similar case has been solved by uninstalling and reinstalling the update WAT - KB971033
Open the Windows Update - click the link view updates installed on the left of the page
in the list, find the WAT update KB971033, and then uninstall it.
Then restart and reinstall the update from here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971033
redemarrer restart again, then try to change your product key to the one on the sticker - what is happening this time?
