I tried to convert a virtual disk in Extensible with vmware-vdiskmanager, but an error...

Hello

I tried to convert a virtual disk in Extensible with vmware-vdiskmanager, but an error...

1.jpg

' Could not convert the drive: the system cannot find the specified file < 0 x 1900000004 >. '

No idea what lack us.

I read a few threads on this subject and they say to delete all snapshots. Don't have any as soon as I used the vmrun program to list all snapshots for this virtual machine and it returned 0.

can someone help me with this?

Thanks in advance,

Rui

It seems that there is typo in the file extensions of the virtual disk, i.e. '.vdmk' instead of 'hard '!

  • Cannot create a virtual disk existing; problem with files hard?

Yes... This is a recurring problem since mid-December, and we finally decided to rebuild our vCenter on another host server.  I went and did the things of the new Virtual Machine and has "custom", so that I can browse and recover files hard and * _1.vmdk of our SAN for discs.

Now, this large all worked Friday.  I just today... and it doesn't work.  D: drive (* _1.vmdk) disappeared, and I can't either remote on the server.  I can't vSphere, nothing!

Then... we rebuild, changing the name of the server that we just built _old after stopping.

When I go to recover files hard again, they are changed...?  I can't explain it!  I've attached a screenshot of what I take everything.

Now... there at - it a way to solve this problem?  And if not, is it possible to find the information that was in these folders to manage our environment?

    Help?

What you're saying gives me a really bad feeling.

Sorry about that, I really want to tell you something more encouraging, but...

Assuming that the snapshot you posted shows the old vCenter server folder, you can see that there are no configuration (.vmx) file more. I can tell you with certainty if the virtual machine has been removed (you can check the tasks and events) or if for example a backup application attempted to do his work but because of the virtual disks had reused problem!

If you still want to use the existing virtual disks, you must move them to the folder of the new virtual machine in order to avoid any confusion.

  • Hard drive crashed and used a disk that came with the office, but says he is not genuine and can not activate

I have a dell vostro 1500 laptop, the hard drive crashed with vista home premium OS, I bought a new rank up and used a disc that came with a desktop vostro albums I bought, but this office came with Windows XP on it more with a WINDOWS 7 operating system... I used this drive to reformat the computer laptop vostro 1500 and now he tells me is not genuein, although I've never opened ti day untilt he I reformat the laptop.

I did something illegal... Please exlain if did it.

you use a key OEM SLP to win 7, which requires a bios compatible win 7 for activation of the auto. 20/06/2008 bios date is well before win 7 is out.

you will need to buy a genuine windows or return to windows, your computer comes with that.

OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

So my just bluescreened machine while running my Ubuntu VM.  The first thing that happened when the computer reboots, I opened VM Player and my my Ubuntu.vmdk file was missing, so I looked all around her.  Found it or a copy of it in the trash.  Reconstituted and then he said "the specified file is not a virtual disk"...  So I upgraded to VM Workstation and still get the same thing...  All the files look good...  How to find on which file is corrupt?  I tried with vmware-vdiskmanager-R option and he said: everything is good.  Help, please!

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Ubuntu - s001.vmdk.

    who should actually be

    scsi0:0. FileName = "Ubuntu.vmdk".

because "Ubuntu.vmdk" is the file descriptor.

  • Error UUID trying to convert VMS

I'm trying to convert a virtual machine by vCenter Converter Standalone v5.5 (5.5.0 build-1362012). When I select the virtual machine and press Next, the following error message is displayed: "a general error has occurred: Invalid Argument".

The log file shows the following error: "ManagedVmLocation has no MoRef VM or VM UUID.

    Thank you.

It would be a valid uuid. For example, copy it to leave uuid.bios and change a few numbers in there.

  • What is the maximum size of virtual disk in machines virtual esxi 4.0

I am trying to create a virtual disk to a virtual machine, I want to make the size of the 300 GB disk but its not allowing to create.

Can I know what is the maximum size of virtual disk, we can create in machines virtual esxi 4.0 with vmfs3 partition

The maximum size of the virtual disk that you can use depends on the size of the selected block when formatting of the data store. With the default of 1 MB block size, the maximum size of virtual disk on a VMFS-3 datastore is ~ 256MB.

  • VMDKMounter gets error "could not open the virtual disk.

I have two Win7 x 64 virtual machines running fine with VMware Fusion 4.1.2.  I installed VMDKMounter from VMware 3.1.3 and OSXFuse 2.3.9.  I can ride one of the files hard with VMDKMounter very well, but others told "Cannot open the virtual disk" when I try to mount it.

    8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: could not parse the instant string ' / Users/finchr/Documents/VirtualMachines.localized/hoth.univ.dir.wwu.edu.vmwarevm/hoth.univ.dir.wwu.edu.vmx '. 8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: will not be able to take an informed decision, based on partial information. 8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: mount the drive read-only instead. 8 June 14:43:27 hoth [0 x 0-0xe50e5].com.vmware.vmdkmounter [2394]: failed to open the disc: disc encoding error (261993021117)

The virtual machine that VMDKMounter fails to mount was created by VMware vCenter Converter 5.0 of a physical machine.  The virtual machine that works was created in VMware Fusion 4.

Of course, the hard I really want to ride with VMDKMounter is he who fails.  No idea how to make so that he can get?

Well, I see nothing in the disc DescriptorFile which prevents the hard mounted.

So right now, you can mount other hard files, but not this one, then I have two suggestions...

It would be to use vmware-vdiskmanager to create a new hard that will not go up and the other would create a new empty hard, then add it to a virtual machine, as well as one that will not go up and then start with appropriate optical disk or an ISO Image containing the appropriate tools/utilities in order to image the drive to the new empty.  I usually use Symantec Norton Ghost for operations like this.  Then maybe a new mounts with VMDKMounter.

  • Existing on the new VM virtual disk mounting problem

    Hi guys,.

I have a problem, try to attach an existing (created with the command "vmkfstools") to a virtual machine drive.

Background: I want to set up a cluster 2 vm nodes, with a quorum of virtual disk. I have already 2 - vm, and after the creation of the virtual disk to use as the quorum disk and trying to attach the virtual disk to a virtual machine, I got the following error:

"Device"vim.vm.device.VirtualSCSIController"is a SCSI controller, engaged in sharing the bus."

I use the following command to create the virtual disk (used for the guide "Setup for Microsoft Cluster Service" VMware):

    vmkfstools hard - c

I also tried to add the indicator:-a free

    But none can do!

What could be the problem here? And how can I solve it?

    Thanks in advance...

    Martin.

Make sure that the virtual machines is not any snapshots. See this article:

  • Unable to create the virtual disk: fault. RestrictedVersion.summary

    Hello

Im trying to create a virtual disk using the CLI on ESX4i.  The script is:

    vmkfstools.pl - Server 10.190.2.51 - c 20 g d eagerzeroedthick - a free /vmfs/volumes/Internal/test.vmdk

When the script runs I get error: unable to create the virtual disk: fault. RestrictedVersion.summary

Can someone tell me why please.  Im trying to create a disk of 20 GB with adapter free with eagerzeroedthick on my internal called storage, (no subdirectory).

The file system is THAT VMFS 3.33 maximum file size is 256 GB.  The block size is 1 MB.  If it is the block size that is the problem how can I easily change?

It's in a laboratory, not a production environment.  I need the flag eagerzeroedthick like Im trying to create a passive active cluster node MSCS 2 on a single physical node with 2 machines VMS.

    Thank you.

    Mike.

If you use the free version of ESXi (U4 and later versions), access to tools like the VIMA API are read-only.

  • Virtual disk on an iscsi SAN

I have a question about virtual disks and how they actually read and wrote on the physical disks on a San.   Lets say I have the Exchange virtual server and a virtual SQL Server on the same RAID set on the SAN.  As you know, Exchange writes on the disc at random while MS SQL server writes sequentially.  Each app just write randomly and successively on their respective virtual disk?  If so, VMware wrote how physical disk with regard to how the application has written to the virtual disk?  For example, if Exchange writes randomly on the disc, which is technically the virtual disk on the ESX host file, VMware writes the changes to virtual disk random file on the physical disk?

It depends on your performance needs - usually it's a good practice (virtualized or not) in order to isolate the workloads that shouldn't be able to influence the other.

So, you can choose to create small groups of raid for the individual applications.  This has the advantage of better insulation, but at the cost of reduced performance for this application (and reduced the efficiency of storage capacity).

It depends on your business needs.  If your SQL server server have been got nutso and eats all your IOPS / s, it would be OK that the Exchange has become terribly slow until you figured it out?  If so, then of course keep 1 large group.  If this isn't the case, then it split and bite the bullet on the cost.

  • Virtual disks explained...

    Hello

I was hoping someone could help me understand the functioning of snapshots in VMware Fusion. I looked in my VM folder and I have 112 virtual disk files,

They are "work PC - s001.vmdk' is it normal to have that many of these files? What are, do I make any changes to my settings to compress these files.

    Thank you

Edit: Most of them is 1 GB files, more or less.

It is possible but only makes sense if you have a "many-files-phobia."

you would with vmware-vdiskmanager like this:

    VMware-vdiskmanager - r "original.vmdk" t 0 "new.vmdk".

original.VMDK is the small text file that lists all extensions

This is done, you need to exchange the vmdk existing your virtual machine with the newly created one.

NOTE: split VMDK is more stable and easier to repair than the one-piece VMDK

  • Virtual disk changed 40 to 84GB GB, yet always 40 GB, need larger space ramdisk as soon as possible

I use VMware Fusion on my HD 2 TB of 2009 iMac i7 8 GB of RAM.

At 2.1, just upgraded to 3.1.1.  I use WinXP SP3.

I use the merger to DSS http://deepskystacker.free.fr/english/index.html and my astrophotography, example here http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=941194

Recently I got 100 of superimposition of images, and DSS says need more disk space, so I've resized my virtual disk of 40 GB GB 84, but still shows only 40 GB on the "C" drive partition.  DSS don't crunch, it crashes.

I know there is something simple, I'm just missing, I briefly analyzed 6 pages in this forum and can not find a wire, so it must be on my side operator error.

Screen shot to show where I am, I even did a 2nd virtual disk of 100 GB, but don't have not does something more.

If I could all migrate this virtual disk of 100 GB, I would delete the 40 > 84 GB upgrade of the disk, or if you show me how to make 84GB appear in WinXPwhatever is faster.

For users of the merger, I would recommend instead this doc: resizing of the ramdisks with step by step Instructions
