I've updated because of an alert from windows saying he had available updates (service packs and I'm not sure what else.) However, when the computer is restarted, he had obtained a 0xe3 BSOD stop. Can someone please?

• Phone call from Windows saying I had many junk files - is it a scam?

  I have Windows Vista HP on my laptop.  Last night, I received a phone call from someone who said he was from Windows & my computer is slow because I had so many unnecessary files.  I was skeptical, but he did as he asked, via start > computer > etc, then typed in 'unwanted Prefetch"as indicated by him who brought up a list of files, which many have been marked! Error.  He kept saying: ' Oh my God ' when I told him this topic, but that Windows could help solve this & not to worry.  Guests were about to happen, so I asked if I could remind him.  Wasn't the answer, but he was going to call again on Monday night.  "Are you in India?", I asked.  "No, Oxfordshire, but I'm of the India.".   I again asked her name/number - he said Sam Hoggard and began to give me the - 5210-01865 - number when my phone battery ran out and cut the call.

  I can't find that any info on this situation from the web, so my question is - is this likely to be a real call?  Windows are proactively calls users?

  Thank you for posting and this bring to our attention.  I can assure you that Microsoft DO NOT contact customers by phone this way.  The engineers of the technical support of Microsoft with customers by phone, only time is if the client contacts the help desk first and asks that we call them.  It looks like the command he had run just listed files but just to be on the safe side I am you provide a link to a post in our security and our Forum of privacy that deals to get rid of spyware or malicious software.  I highly recommend that you read and follow the instructions in the Microsoft MVPs.  The scans are free and I invite you to run all 3 they recommend.  Here is the link to this post:

  Let us know what are the scans.  If they detect viruses or software malware and you need assistance with remove them if please post a reply and let us know.  Make sure that you include the name of the detected virus/malware, error messages Word for word on the screen that you get, and a description of any behaviour of Bazaar that you noted with your computer.

  Keep us informed and, obviously, if this character happens to you call back do not respect its instructions!

• Printer accepts documents, but stops the printing process before printing. Sometimes, it displays the items in the cache when the computer is restarted.

  It is a Dell V313 printer which is now updated with all the mods of pilot.  The computer is a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7.  The printer worked well for several years, but recently (probably because of something I did), it is reluctant to perform a print job.  He wakes up accepts all the documents and store them in the cache, but it's going to be okay.  When I ask, he lists the documents as well as their size and says it's printing, but it is not.

  Sometimes, after a restart, he wakes up and print all pending.  When it prints, it is nicely.  I have been through the provided diagnostic system, and all said that the printer is up-to-date and effective.  Except that it does not print pages.  Turn off mode 'sleep' and keep the thing going all the time work?  If so, how do I?   John

  However, I discovered (hidden) subsequently that there was an update for my graphics card that hadn't been charged.  After the update, I was able to print some test sheets.  I think that the problem has been resolved.  But if he starts to act up again, I'll be back!

  Unlocker is my go - to for fixing the files in this State.  It is probably easier to do it manually: Unlocker - free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

  That said, the permissions being stripped on files is a symptom, not a cause.  You might get away with the lock and blowing these files and things will work normally after that.

  The point I want to drive home, it is that it would be smart to take advantage of the opportunity to save something essential.  You could just as easily be the first signs of catastrophic disk failure.  Having lost my share of data that has not been backed up, I always count these early warnings as gifts and take seriously at this point.  There are many good solutions free/good market online (especially if you don't have a lot of data that you really care), as well as traditional approaches to removable disk.

  If you load the editor, when you get told updates and you click Update, it may take a while to get there.

  If you are on a Windows system, you can find that there is a flashing icon of user access control in your taskbar. I don't know about MAC systems.
