I want to open links in a new window but cannot find where to put the setting. Having disabled the "open new windows in a new tab instead" box in the Options dialog box.
When I click a link on a Web page or other software, I want to open in a window, completely new.
You can hold the SHIFT key and click the left button of the mouse a link to open this link in a new window.
The setting in tools > Options > tabs is only for links that specify a window target and you can hijack such a link in a new tab instead.

How to configure firefox to open outlook e-mail links in a new tab instead of having this "crush" a tab currently open? For example, that I have a tab open and consult the information about this. An email comes in via outlook and I want to read a confined link. When I click on the link, it will open in the tab I have currently open. I would like to open it in a new tab.
You mean Outlook, the standalone version and not the new iteration of Live (live.com) mail to Outlook.
I think that the default is to open in a new tab in the last active window, but you can check it out here and replace the default value:
(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.
(2) in the search above the list box, type or paste link.o and make a pause so that the list is filtered
(3) double-click the preference browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external and change it to 3 and OK change
The options are:
-1 = apply the setting in Options > general > tabs of external links (default)
3 = open external links in a new tab in the last active window
2 = open external links in a new window
1 = open external links in the last active tab replaces the current page -

My motherboard went bad on my old computer, but the hard drive was OK. I bought a new computer and plugged my old hard drive to it via a usb adapter. I would like to import or copy my favorites from the old hard drive to my new, but I can't find where they are. I was unable to determine the search for articles on the web. Be advised that my old hard drive is basically nothing more than a place of storage for files at this point. My old operating system is windows XP, and my new system is Windows Home Premium.

Instead of opening a link in a new tab, now when I click on a link, a new window opens. How can I stop this and put in place the system to open links in a new tab instead?
The checkbox in the Options page does not work? In case it was not clearly article that scribe link, it's here:
"3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Options > general
Check the box "Open new windows in a new tab instead of this"
Who will take care of most of the links that target a new window. If the site uses a script to remove the features of the window or specify the size of the window, you must change a hidden parameter also divert these windows on one leg, but please try the regular setting first and see if that fixes it.

When I right-click a link and select 'open in a new tab' and 'opens in a new window', nothing happens. In addition, nothing happens when I type a query in the search bar and press ENTER. I tried to restart firefox in safe mode and disabling all add-ons, but the problems continue.
The setting in "tools > Options > tabs: open new windows in a new tab instead" is for links that specify a target window (for example, target = _blank) to open the link.
This option allows to divert these links into a new tab instead of a new window.
Links that do not specify a target always open in the current tab, unless you redefine that with a middle-click or Ctrl (Mac: Cmd) left click (new tab) or a left click UPDATE (new window) or via the context menu. You can check if you have the XML files including Google's default search engine in the browser\searchplugins file in the Firefox program folder.
If this isn't the case, then you need to reinstall Firefox.
Try to delete the file search.json and possible search - metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the profile folder of Firefox to reset the default search engines.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:- Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: see file (Linux: open the directory;) Mac: View in the Finder)
Firefox will rebuild the file search.json from the default search engines in the folder "browser\searchplugins" in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

Open link in a new tab function when Middle-click there just disappeared.
Hello! Open link in a new tab function when Middle-click there just disappeared; now, when I Middle - click on the link, nothing happens - no new tab, just nothing! It comes not with a mouse, I tried another mouse and it's average click and even in other browsers works; Right click and 'Open link in a new tab' (as well as other options menu) to work correctly. No idea what happened? Thank you!
You can have an add-on which interferes with middle-click behavior. To test this try the procedure described in article Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems .

You want to open links in a new tab, not a new window.
When using a mouse, I know I can middle-click (wheel) and I'm clicking on the link will open in a new tab. I also know that I can drag this link to the sign on the tabs bar + and it will open. But when you use the keyboard only, when I want to open a Web page link in a new tab, it always opens in a new window, why?
I noticed when looking at the support of Mozilla that hit any box opens in a new tab (this is the effect I want) why is it not the case on other Web pages?
I can answer my own question here, but would it be the site of "NewsNow" one which is causing my problem?
As I wrote above, that the tabs setting only applies to links that have a specified target window.
You can click on the link and the code in the Inspector. If there is a button 'ev' Annex then, it means that JavaScript events are related to the link.

Thank you all.
Hello again!
You can send the question to Logitech customer support and otherwise reinstall the Logitech software again or reset factory default driver software, as I don't know any more than the problem lies in the web browser itself.
If all above fails them, try and see if you can get the mouse works propely on other computers running the same version of Mozilla Firefox.

I think the following quote, below, for help on the page is my problem.
I have a site that I use when I click on a link in the Web site it opens a new window with the tab down. In addition, when this happens, I lose the orange rectangle FireFox, bookmarks and navigation options. How can I define FF31 so that the link opens in a new tab, and I keep all my options? I use Classic theme restaurateur 1.2.3. I also note that, in the new window, I lose the ability to use some of the addons.
I have two laptops and both are running FF31 and W7. One of them works perfectly and the other is having this problem. As far as I can tell they are both defined by the same. The only difference is that when I upgraded to FF31 they both had difference older versions of FireFox. I also read in the help forum that maybe I need to go back to FireFox 28 to accomplish what I am trying to accomplish.
I noticed that when I'm going under: config that the version of FF that does not work unless options compared to the version that works. An example would be that the working version has 'browser.tabs.onTop' where, on the other computer laptop is missing.
> > > open new windows in a new tab instead: this option controls whether links from other applications or from web pages which request to open them in a new window opens in a new window or a new tab in the most recent window.
Note: If you have chosen to open pages in new tabs, Firefox will ignore this option and opens a new window from a link if the page author specified that the new window must have a specific size, because some pages cannot be displayed correctly to a specific size. < < <Thanks in advance for any help,
YetoYou can override how the links are opened through the browser.link.open_newwindow.override preference.

Same action on any other site works very well and opens a new page in a new tab without bringing it to the front. You are looking for if there is a setting that needs to be adjusted or if it's something weird with functioning Google Inbox and Gmail. Would love to get this sort. Thank you!
I think the address of other preferences, named in a similar way, most of the other situations:
- browser.tabs.loadInBackground = > when you open a regular link in a new tab using Ctrl + click (or right click > open in a new tab)
- default = true, do not have the new active tab
- In the page Options dialog box, this is controlled by him "when I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" setting.
- Browser.Tabs.Load InBackground ofdiversion = > when divert you a new window generated by script in a new tab using Ctrl + click
- default = false, activate the new tab
- Browser.Tabs.LoadFavoritesInBackground = > when you load a bookmark in a new tab using Ctrl + click (or right click > open in a new tab)
- default = false, activate the new tab
- browser.tabs.loadInBackground = > when you open a regular link in a new tab using Ctrl + click (or right click > open in a new tab)

In previous versions of Firefox, when I open a new empty tab by CTRL-T or by clicking on the 'more' button on the tab bar, Firefox would focus on the new tab. This is not the case with Firefox 11, but I liked this behavior and want to get it back.
It seems to be different from opening a link in a new tab, which, at least for me, opened without getting the focus (I deselected the option to immediately go to the preferences of some time back, but the new tab behavior remained). I searched through the preferences and have played with the options in the tab, but empty came. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thank you!
As far as I can tell, it is still the default behavior and is not affected by preferences. Is one of your extensions may cause this problem. Go to Firefox > customize > addons and try to disable tabs in impact or the behavior tab.

Opening links in a new tab will also load the link on the problem of temporamental currnt tab that comes and goes. Sometimes using links from google as well. Never had this problem before. Also the SafeSearch feature on google has itself locked on strict, not too much problem, but has happened at the same time my links and tabs not working like I want.
Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).
- Makes no changes on the start safe mode window.
