How to remove Windows Defender from Vista?
Anyone know how to remove Windows Defender? It is not on the list of programs that can be uninstalled. When I try to remove it from the tree, I get a message that only a "TrustedInstaller" can remove it.
It's been nothing but trouble I got my new PC in August. I spent in Avast and MalwareBytes, but I can't stop the system to get scans in tenacious Defender. I wanted to get rid of it because it will not update install. It keeps telling me that there are updates available, but the progress bar comes in with a small piece of the execution and the stalls.
Updates Windows continues to tell me it is another Defender update available and also stops at install.
Looks like Microsoft could do a better job of coordinating its products. I'm ready to throw the new computer and become a ludites.
Help!
I uninstall Norton before that I installed Avast. I went to 'Services' and 'arrested' Defender. Then I went to 'Properties' and 'Disabled' Defender. This should at least stop notifications. You can't repeat to you, I got it.

Windows Defender is disabled by Microsoft Security Essentials
I just uninstalled Windows Live One Care and installed Microsoft Security Essentials (the new free program). Windows Defender was always "off" under Windows Live One Care. Defender warned me that he can 'stops' also now that Microsoft Security Essentials is installed. Is it the way it should be? I have not any instruction on the site of Windows CE. Can you tell me please?
Solved. For some reason any installation IS does not stop Defender tries to start. Solution (as you would expect) must have Windows Defender off HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Run - exactly why Security Essentials is not beyond me...

How to remove Satellite PSU44E U400 Vista and install Win XP
Because a large part of my specialized software is designed to work with XP pro, I need to remove my U400 of Vista Home Premium and install XP Pro. As others have found with other models Toshiba simply placing XP disc in the DVD drive results in "dreaded blue screen" with error 0X0000007B (0XF78D2524, etc) and correctly configured hard drive reviews / looking for the virus/run Chdsk/F to check corruption.
Change drive HARD BIOS from AHCI to compatibility mode allows to XP disk load and run as "Press ENTER to load XP" but pressing 'Enter' does nothing; other keys have no effect either and the only way I found is to press on the On / Off button. Re change from "AHCI" to "Compatibility" there are also a lot of comments on other users for suggesting that using compatibility mode makes it much slower than the AHCI mode disk access. However, despite searching the Web using Tosh HDD not registered model (MK3252GSX) I can't find a driver XP ATA to nLite XP before trying again.
Can someone tell me a procedure they used to remove Vista and replace it with XP Pro on you U400 PSU44E please?
Hello
I have a U400 and I ve installed Win XP on my baby with no problems.
There are two options; either you'll assign compatible SATA mode (in BIOS), or you leave the option in AHCI mode and will include the SATA drivers that are part of the Intel Storage Manager.
Intel Storage Manager can be downloaded from the Toshiba page (you can find it in the category U400).I managed to include the SATA drivers with nLite and everything worked as it should.
PS; Win XP should include min. SP2! -

Call the manufacturer of your computer.
Request a set of recovery disks. The cost of the disk is minimal and the money will be well spent. Also ask to speak to a technician and learn how to access your recovery partition (if you have one) and the use of the recovery partition.
Note:
If you have files that you want to keep, save these first before you restore your computer.

I need to keep Windows Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials installed?
My question is, what do I need to keep Windows Defender installed too, or I can uninstall it.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed and it works fine. I am running Vista 64 bit with service PK. 2 and the Defender is installed under Vista. Before MSE I used Windows Live One Care until my subscription has expired and that they did not renew it. At that point, I finally installed MSE. Windows defender can be uninstalled? It seems to be an unnecessary element in my Security Center.

Microsoft Security Essentials disables Windows Defender in Vista?
Can error 0x800106ba on any attempt to open code I Defender. I also acquired McAfee at some point, but I uninstalled it hundreds of years ago but I still have the same error message whenever I try to open Windows Defender. Help, please
It is not fair to McAfee posing problem with the Defender:
Windows Defender:
If you have Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, McAfee, Norton, etc. installed, they have a conflict with Windows Defender, or turn it off.
Microsoft Security Essentials has its own integrated version of the defender and should automatically disable the version of Vista in Windows Defender.
If it's not:
http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/turn-Windows-Defender-on-or-off
Turn Windows Defender on or off the information on the link above of Microsoft.
Hope the above explains the common compatibility issues with Windows Defender and other security programs.

Hello, just to be sure I have the correct information, Windows Defender lights not in Windows Vista with Microsoft Security Essentials, as Essentials has its own version of the Defender. The error code I received is the same as the previous posts in which is: 0x800106ba. Again, just to be sure, I understand, I should stop trying to turn Defender because Security Essentials has covered it, okay?
