How to disable Windows Defender in Vista SP2?

I can't see options administrator under options.

Hello

are you sure it's a legitimate version of the Defender you try to turn it off?

There are various Malware autour programs using the Defender name

read this information on the Defender:

·                         If you use microsoft security essentials avg avira mcafee norton etc they disable the vista version of windows defender by default

the basics of Microsoft security has its own version of windows defender

and other anti-virus programs use their own particular type of application to scan for spyware and malware

It of nothing to worry and is the default action, which is designed for them to do

Hello, just to be sure I have the correct information, Windows Defender lights not in Windows Vista with Microsoft Security Essentials, as Essentials has its own version of the Defender.  The error code I received is the same as the previous posts in which is: 0x800106ba.  Again, just to be sure, I understand, I should stop trying to turn Defender because Security Essentials has covered it, okay?

    Hello

Yes; Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender for the reasons you mentioned.

If she didn't turn it off, you should manually have to do it anyway.

    This information explains Microsoft explained:

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/protect/Forum/MSE-protect_start/Windows-Defender-and-Microsoft-Security-Essentials/5309cb8d-02e1-40E8-974f-0dcedb9ab9fd

Q: is - this installation of Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7) disable Windows Defender?
    A:
Microsoft Security Essentials should disable Windows Defender in Vista and Windows 7, and then uninstall it from XP. In some cases, this does not happen automatically.

Q: what happens if I do not disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials (XP/Vista/7)?
A: If Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both running, your system can know the performance degradation and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time.

  • How to remove Windows Defender from Vista?

Anyone know how to remove Windows Defender? It is not on the list of programs that can be uninstalled. When I try to remove it from the tree, I get a message that only a "TrustedInstaller" can remove it.

It's been nothing but trouble I got my new PC in August. I spent in Avast and MalwareBytes, but I can't stop the system to get scans in tenacious Defender. I wanted to get rid of it because it will not update install. It keeps telling me that there are updates available, but the progress bar comes in with a small piece of the execution and the stalls.

Updates Windows continues to tell me it is another Defender update available and also stops at install.

Looks like Microsoft could do a better job of coordinating its products. I'm ready to throw the new computer and become a ludites.

    Help!

I uninstall Norton before that I installed Avast. I went to 'Services' and 'arrested' Defender. Then I went to 'Properties' and 'Disabled' Defender. This should at least stop notifications. You can't repeat to you, I got it.

I can not install windows defender.

Thanks for the reply, I've had systems both Norton and McAfee on my computer in the past and I'm afraid that some root or a part of the McAfee program is always subject.  After going through the process of uninstalling before installing the SP Seccurity Essentials I saw signs of him and I tried to get rid of it by following all the various suggestions.  I even bought an announced program that claims to be able to do the job (not true).  Let me ask you one more thing, a total system restore would do the job?  Also moving to Windows 7 at this time would do the trick?  Thank you in advance, I have all my personal and purchased programs and files ready just in case it came to that.  I am and will always be a loyal user of Microsoft and supporter just as Microsoft has treated me.

    Hello

If you use Norton, AVG, Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, McAfee, etc. the default action is for Windows Defender must be disabled, that these AntiVirus programs have their own Antispyware Applications.

    There is nothing to worry.

Using both programs at the same time can cause system conflicts, etc.

If you are using one of the above AntiVirus programs, this Information from David O - Support Engineer shows you how to manually enable Windows Defender (disregard information from uninstalling; not possible in Vista):

    http://answers.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/Forum/windows_vista-security/how-do-i-manually-start-Windows-Defender-in-Vista/dab845b2-9ba5-47F3-9518-c4c6781e7d5b

"Go to start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. Look for Windows Defender.

Right click and select Properties , ensure that Startup Type is automatic.

Once modified, click apply and OK.

Quit and restart your computer. Check the back take the same path to confirm that Windows Defender has started"

    .

If you want to have additional protection against malware using the version FREE of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

And for now, change startup Vista programs without using Defender, use one of these methods:

  • How to stop windows defender updates to install immediately

I have Vista SP2, fully implemented to date. Processor 3 Ghz, 2 GB ram.  I have my windows updates set to automatic at 03:00.  These always install at 03:00 or when I select Install.  The problem I have is that these Windows Defender updates install immediately as soon as my pc starts or soon there after.  They seem to be ignoring my settings of windows updates.  It really drives me crazy because I have to wait and stop what I want to do both.  Windows defender updates slow down my pc or freeze the programs sometimes while I'm trying to use the pc.  Same IE9 sometimes freezes because of them.  Sometimes, I have to restart the pc to make it work well. They scan as soon as they install and they install as soon as they are published.  They are supposed to be for help, not to make my pc use miserable.  How can I make windows defender updates obey my windows update settings?

Have you tried to install manually instead of by means of automatic updates?

NIS 2012 should have disabled Windows Defender when it has been installed on your Vista operating system.  You turn Windows Defender?

What you describe as gel application hangs, looks slow performance software conflicts such as those that occur between contradictory antimalware programs.

I no longer use Windows Defender because of the risk of conflicts and problems with MSE.  I know people who have asked for advice in the forums etc who have had similar problems that you and their options were to uninstall or disable Windows Defender or uninstall their existing such as MSE, Norton, AVG, AV program.  Uninstall Windows Defender is not necessary, eliminated the problems of error messages, etc.

You may notice the following excerpt from:

    MSE and Windows Defender

Q: what happens if I do not disable or uninstall Windows Defender, if I use Microsoft Security Essentials?
A: If Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender are both running, your system can know the performance degradation and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time.

The same Council also applies to people who use NIS, and Windows Defender.

If you want to ignore my suggestions it is certainly your option.

If you can continue to follow this thread maybe someone else will have another suggestion for your question.

  • Disable Windows Defender

I'm having the problem of Windows/McAfee.  If I disable Windows Defender, how can I go about deleting items in the start menu?
    Appreciate the help.

    Hi BurrowD,

Thank you for using answers Forum.

Are what McAfee/Windows problem you referring?

You can prevent some programs from startup to startup Vista by checking to see if there is a shortcut in the startup folder by clicking Start > all programs > startup. You can safely delete or move icons on the desktop to run when you want.

You can prevent some positions loading using MSConfig, this is however not the recommended procedure.
You can click on start and type msconfig in the search field and click on the entry that appears near the top.
Then click on the Startup tab.

    I hope this helps.
