Icon of the unknown program on the desktop, flickering screen problem

Original title: Elitebook 8570p

When I log in, I get an icon on deskton with a hand and a line on a loading angle. What is and what is it called so I can uninstall it. I did a fresh install and was downloading allot of things that I don't use.

Also what the h3ll is viewspan. That guard is inviting. What, do I need?

Also, my screen started flickering, what I have not downloaded. Was well before I did the new facility. I have not downloaded all the stuff there, because I don't know what I need. Got the basics.

More I have connection manager, hp not connected, do I need this?

Is a link to HP update? I got it in vista.

Has been downloaded stuff at random here.

drivers

You said "Got this from Microsoft on the Elitebook 8570p download link drivers...". »

It is not no matter what MS link for the drivers of HP, unless you mean that you used the windows update and installed recommended updates, that would have included drivers.

And if you had installed with the HP recovery discs then all drivers and software HP would have been installed in the process.

After you have installed you then make the mistake to use windows update to install the two Important updates & recommended, which would have included drivers

The list of the MS are different drivers HP

But as said before you do not need to install all the drivers if you have used the original for your specific PC HP recovery media

  • How can I get specific programs and app icons appears in the form of shortcut icons on the desktop?

Hello.  I have Windows Vista (boo) on my laptop.  In the past I've created shortcuts on the desktop for applications and programs and they inserted the icon on the desktop.  The only time wherever I got the generic icon, for example, document, spreadsheet, internet, etc. has been when I was creating a shortcut to a document, etc.  I know I can do a right-click on the shortcut and click on change icon but the options it gives me are more associated with a linked program systems.  Can you help me, please?

    Hi AdeleAnderson,

If you do not have a program associated with a file, the shortcut will display only generic icons.

  • All icons on the desktop have turned to photo viewer and cannot open these programs

I recently had my computer up to date. Everything was fine until I put my memory stick in the laptop and tried to download my back upwards. Now, when I turn the laptop on the icons does not load and are all stuck in photo viewer and I cannot open programs at all. Can anyone help please, thank you

Original title: icons on the desktop

I'm not 100% sure but I think that you are having a bad "file extension association. This is where the default program to open a file is incorrect. In the case of your office, these are all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) and the. LNK Association was by mistake coupled with Photo Viewer.

I've seen this happen when opening a program via a shortcut (for example. LNK file), you are asked what type of program to open it with. After you have selected the photo viewer (or another program) via the Select a program from a list of programs installedand check always use the selected program to open this type of file (circled in red below), the document or program referenced by the shortcut of origin opens in the Photo Viewer as it should.

The problem is that now all shortcuts (for example. LNK files) on the desktop or in the Explorer will want to be opened by the photo viewer and often use the icon Photo Viewer to display the shortcut no matter what shortcut was originally intentioned to open. This is known as a file association and the default icon. The same condition can occur if you have performed these actions 'Open with' on one. JPG or even a. EXE, but the. LNK explanation is much more likely for the items on the desktop.

The good news is that a small free utility was written to cancel the. LNK file association was created. There is also a registry hack to achieve, but I recommend the utility unASSOC for its ease of use.

You can get a copy of my OneDrive here. I used to send people elsewhere to download a copy, but this page is more in addition to confusion with misleading ads to download this and this computer of powders of snake oil "fixed".

Just download, then use the utility to unassociate the. LNK files for the user or globally delete the file type and let windows rebuild a new default.

  • Size of icons on the desktop

The icons on my desktop got a huge while I was working.  I tried to change the resolution of the screen, but it has no effect.  The police is of normal size, but the icons are huge.  How to make their return to normal?

    Method One

    1 / right-click on a vacant part of the Office .

2 / in the drop-down menu , click the view option.

3 / in the context menu , click one of the following options:

    • Large icons.
    • Medium-sized icons.
    • Classic icons.

The classic icons option will reduce the size the most.

    Second method

If you really want to control the size of the icons on the desktop, then here is a tweak that is really simple to do exactly that.

1 / make sure that the Office is at the point. In other words, click the office button to bring the Office to forward (assuming that you have other programs open).

2 / place your mouse on a free part of the desktop, and then hold down the CTRL (control) key.

3 / press CTRL and hold, and then, with your mouse scroll button, scroll the mouse towards the wheel upwards or downwards to increase or decrease the size of the icons.

4 / once the icons are the size you want, release the CTRL key.

5 / your desktop icons should now appear in a more appropriate size.

  • Have recently noticed icons on the desktop "oscillate" or shake a moment; What is going on? Is this a problem?

I recently noticed some icons on the desktop, shaking for a moment from time to time, which does not seem to be connected to everything I do. I noticed mostly with the icons for a few programs I downloaded recently (Switch Sound File Converter, WavePad Sound Editor and RecordPad sound recorder), even if I used these programs in the past without problem and did not notice anything unusual to suggest a virus. Does anyone know what this means? Thank you!

    Hello

    Step 1:

You can try to start in safe mode and check if the problem persists. Only basic files and drivers needed to run Windows are started. If a problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode, you can eliminate the default settings and basic as possible cause device drivers. To start in safe mode follow the link.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

    Step 2:

If the problem does not occur in safe mode then boot to the desktop in normal mode and check that the third-party program is causing the problem. To configure your computer to clean boot follow the link below.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Note: When you are finished troubleshooting, follow step 7 article to start on normal startup.
