  • Update icon is missing from the system tray

    Salvation Windows XP experts,

My "Automatic Updates" is set on "download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them", but several times I don't get the icon in the system tray, and it is until I want to shud down my laptop when I get the message "click on disable to install important updates and turn off your computer. , and if I work on the batteries, I don't even get this message. Sometimes I change my setting "Notify Me but don't automatically download or install" hoping that icon will appear, but it's not.

Recently, I have been informed of the 2 updates to download and agreed, but they got downloaded the icon has disappeared... and when I lock my PC, I got this message because I have new updates have been installed, I clicked on the button "turn off". I was surprised when I saw him on the screen saying 1 of 1 updates is being intalled! I pressed the power button until it exploded and then restarted, it, went into the folder Windows to know he was installing the single update, is not one of the 2 updates that I accepted on! What a f * ing system?

What can I do to see what updates will be installed on my PC?

    Thank you

    Hello

If I understand well, you have a little problem with the 'automatic update' - in particular with the notification in the system tray icon. The icon does not appear in the system status bar when updates are ready for instalation - does?

There is a similar but opposite problem - system "Auto update" displays the icon in the system tray – as they may be new updates installed, but the updated window does not update after clicking on the icon in the system tray:

    http://www.eggheadcafe.com/Microsoft/Windows-Update/29682120/Automatic-Update-icon-stay-on-system-tray.aspx

So, this has been resolved by removing the "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" directory "C:\WINDOWS" folder

(before deletion was stopped the service "Windows update").

    What you can try:

    (1) this Fix IT (full reset Windows Update components - including registration of libraries, to rename files ...)

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/971058/en

    2) install the latest version of the Windows Update Agent (for good communication with the WWW of Windows update server)

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/949104/en

    3) only recommend - install the latest IE (IE8) (Select language)

    (4) this Microsoft Genuine Advantage diagnostic (I hope that will be the pages of the SITE in English)

I confess that I have not read previous answers (PA bear MS MVP) in detail, it is possible that you've already tried this. However, I tried this, if I had similar problems.

  • How to remove programs from the system tray without removing them from the startup?

How to remove programs from the system tray without removing them from the startup on Windows XP folder?

    Hello

The first step is to identify the program that represents the icon and decide whether it should be in the system tray (most are not necessary). Hold the cursor of the mouse on the icon to see the name of the program that launches the icon.

The best bet is to click the icon to see if this opens the box of the program options. If so, look for a selection similar to "remove from the system tray.

Alternatively, you can hide the icons in the system tray.

    Here's how:

    1. right click on the taskbar and select "Properties".

    2. in the "Notification area" click "Hide inactive icons" if she already unchecked and then click on the button "Customize".

    3. click on the ' column next to each of your current behavior and choose one of the three behaviors for each program icon that appears in the system tray: "Hide when it is idle," "Always hide", or "always show".»

If you hide an icon, but then see it again the next time that you log on to Windows, you may need to uninstall the program to permanently remove the icon. Uninstall the program permanently removes the program from your computer. For more information, see Uninstall or change a program.

    Hi JayBregand,

    ·         Did you do changes on the computer before the show?

    ·         Who are the automatic patches from Microsoft have you tried?

Follow the suggestions below for a possible solution:

Method 1: Try to add the icon again and the Coachman. If the problem persists you can read the following article and check.

Method 2: Create a new profile on the computer and check if the problem persists. If this is not the case, the other profile is corrupt. To create a new user profile, you can see the article mentioned below for the procedure.

Have a Toshiba laptop that always displays the lower icon audio in the right hand of the screen.  The sound icon has disappeared and I can't hear anything.  I check Contol Panel and sound, and he says it works and is turned up... but I can't hear a thing.  How can we retrieve icon of audio and how I can hear sound?

    Hello

    Thank you for your response.
I did a "System Restore" and the icon reappeared, and the sound now works.
I restarted the computer a couple of times, but that does not solve the problem.  Also, I went into the Panel and checked to see if the speakers were working and were lit, and they were.
It wasn't until I did the restore of the system that the icon reappeared and the noise began to work again.
    Thank you.

My volume button has disappeared from the lower toolbar.  I can't find where the volume can be controlled.  Any ideas?

    Hello

You can access the Volume control of the following location: %SystemRoot%\System32\SndVol.exe
Are you really sure that it is not visible in the status bar? Please, try the following methods and check if that helps
[1] method: Using the properties of the taskbar to configure the system icons
    • Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties
    • From the top, select the Area of Notification tab
    • Make sure the Volume is checked under system icons

[2] method: Using the registry editor to reset system icons
ATTENTION: It is recommended to create a System Restore Point or a backup of the registry before proceeding
    • In the start menu, search for: regedit
    • Right-click regedit and select run as administrator
    • In the right pane, navigate to the following key HKEY_CURRENT_USER Settings\
      Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    • Delete the following key under Windows\CurrentVersion: TrayNotify

    Screenshot: http://www.wincom7.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/registry-entry-image1-625x316.jpg

If the above could not show you the Volume control, please try the following
Method [3]: Creating a new user account
    • Open a user account by clicking on the button start , clicking Control Panel, clicking user accounts and family safety, and then clicking user accounts.
    • Click on manage another account.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    • Click on create a new account.

    • Type the name you want to assign to the user account, click an account type, and then click on create an account.

    Thank you
    I hope this helps :)

    Hi Harjap,

It was that of the last changes made to the computer added as new hardware or software?

Start the computer in Safe Mode. The Windows Update tab appear? If so, we can eliminate the base as the origin of the problem drivers.

Start your computer in a clean boot. The Windows Update tab appear? If so, the problem may be caused by a software conflict.

    Hello

I read a few topics on missing icons in the system tray. It seems that it s is a windows bug.
Please check these messages from the forum:

    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=15065

    Maybe it helps.

I can t say too much on the matte screen. Of course, if the Fl inverter is dead the display appears dull but you issue sounds a little different. The problem doesn't persist all time. That's why I think that it s not a frequency inverter. Usually, the Toshiba power saver is responsible for the brightness of the screen. You should check the settings of the single power supply modes. Maybe you switched between different modes of energy and the brightness of the screen has also been changed.
