IDE to AHCI introduces unwanted RAID

I have a custom computer that initially had a software RAID on it for my data disks (i.e. Windows is not installed on them). Now, I would just use hard drives separately. In the BIOS, both hard drives have the same name. When I connect using IDE drives, I can see them both in Windows. However, when I use AHCI, readers are combined into a single player in Windows. I want to use AHCI for various reasons, but I want to use the two drives separately. How can I do this?

Thank you!

Unfortunately, the store has closed & the owner is sick cannot get their hands on him more & I had to get some add on things like new SSDS & some other bits in my system & the young boy said he would could do this job, but everything went wrong & I lost all new so I decided to recycle me like I used to do it before windows 7-64 came out I was going through a rough patch with me being paraplegic in any case it is difficult to build a new PC, so I chose this store & their confidence that went wrong now & I've been research & learn to catch up with the new technology, I do what I do anyway.
Thing is my system is never one that you can purchase a manufacturer & I left it with the young boy & it came out all memory & was not necessary but of course upset of that ruined the setting completely overclocked so I did it myself & I got the work faster than ever, & quieter PC I just got the score that he had now , so I'm happy with it, but the names I came across while overclocking I came across that I'm not average or really lot as were dealing with Fast CrossfireX DDR RAM 1600 MHz.

Thanks to anyone who can put me wise on these 3 points only. Malcolm.

I'm pretty sure that you are on the wrong "forum" for this type of topic. This forum is designed as a support Pro-type Surface ultrabook/tablets and tablet-like Surface.

    That said,

AHCI - Advanced Host Controller Interface - this is a hardware mechanism that allows the software to communicate with the devices Serial ATA (SATA). It offers features such as connecting hot and native command queuing (NCQ).

IDE - Integrated Drive Electronics - IDE is basically the 'old' version of AHCI without connection to hot and NCQ. (It is usually used during the era the Parallel ATA (PATA) hard drives)

Now. Mode AHCI and IDE mode - what is - this? IDE mode is to give you the greatest compatibility with older operating systems. AHCI is as I mentioned above, a modern version of the IDE - use the AHCI mode if you are running recent operating systems (Windows Vista + and Linux kernel 2.6.19+).) IDE mode will allow you to connect older operating systems with SATA drives.

As I mentioned above, SATA is Serial ATA and the replacement of hard drives Parallel ATA (PATA).

RAID - this is a storage technology where combine you multiple disks in a unit of 'single', depending on the mode, there may be RAID-0 and RAID-6 and each with different hard drive configurations. I will explain the simple examples: RAID-0 , which is the distribution but no parity or mirroring, this means that there is no data redundancy, if there is a failure on a disc, it will cause the loss of data on the entire RAID array. Ex: You 0110 as writing the data, 01 goes on disk 1 and 10 goes on disc 2, allowing a faster data read/write access.

RAID-1- This is the opposite of RAID-0, which is mirrored without interlacing (no parity or the other). Basically, this means that you have an exact clone of disk 1 disk 2 disk 1 failure.

RAID0 + 1 is that both RAID 1 and 0 is, IE interlacing (write data simultaneously to two [or more]. disks more mirroring failure) the minimum amount of disks required for this type of installation is 4 IDENTICAL drives.

There is also RAID 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That is just more implemented different configurations of distribution/parity/mirroring on disks.

That being said, your RAID mode will allow you for some type of RAID configuration, if you choose to do so.

Supplement: Many SATA controllers can enable AHCI separately or in combination with RAID support. Recommend Intel choose RAID mode on their motherboards, allowing also the AHCI, rather than AHCI/SATA mode for maximum flexibility (in the case that you ever want to build a RAID array), because there are a few problems that occurs, usually BSOD, when you choose a different mode once an operating system is already installed.

  • Evolution of the IDE to AHCI in Studio XPS 1640

    Hello world

I'm about to clean install Windows 10 on a new SSD.

How to you switch from IDE to AHCI mode prior to installation on the Studio XPS 1640?

How to activate the mode of compensation?

    Thank you.

    Hi Stock4j,

I guess that you have a complete backup of your system drive and files before installing the new drive and the OS.

To change the mode of the controller SATA, boot in the BIOS (F2). There will be two or three options, ATA, RAID and AHCI. If AHCI is not available, choose the RAID or AHCI.

You have no need to activate the TRIM. With a clean installation, TRIM should be enabled automatically earn 10.

  • Qosmio G50 change IDE to AHCI controller

    Hello
    I recently bought an SSD
and the wand to increase its performance and the Firmware upgrade by changing the IDE SATA AHCI controller
How can I change from AHCI? through the BIOS, I don't see any indication in the BIOS
I read all disks to increase performance by changing the IDE SATA AHCI controller

    > wand to increase its performance and the Firmware upgrade by changing the IDE SATA AHCI controller
May I ask if you are sure that something like this exists? I've never heard any update firmware for the IDE controller.

Of course, you can update the BIOS and can install the SATA drivers that control the HARD disk controller, but you won't find any update of the firmware.

    > I read all disks to increase performance by changing the IDE SATA AHCI controller
I know such option is available, not for all laptops and it is available only with the Phoenix BIOS.
The G50 supports Toshiba BIOS and the HARD drive controller is always to SATA (AHCI).
This means that you can not change it to IDE, and so the performance can be reduced or increased.

In order to install a new OS, you must eat of storage which includes SATA drivers.

  • How can I make IDE to AHCI in windows 8

I need to convert IDE to AHCI and how do I do this?

    IM using SATA 2.0

    Oh boy!

I suggest you first enable it in the BIOS and do a fresh install of Windows 8 to avoid the problems I got.
It's not easy, that I did recently after I updated my BIOS, and I also have a tri-boot configuration if you enable it in the bios, you will need to do a complete reset because I kept getting errors without end with my installation of Windows 8.

I made the registry changes in Vista and Windows 7 by following these steps:
    1. start "Regedit."
    2. Open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlset / Services
    3. open msahci
    4. in the field of right to left click on "Start" and go to edit
    5. in the value data field, enter "0" and click "ok".
    6. exit "Regedit."
7 restart Rig and get into the BIOS (button 'Delete' hold in Booting and enable ahci in the BIOS) or whatever key is specified in the manual of your motherboard or whether it's a store bought your user's guide.
If you have Windows 8 is installed, you need to do a slightly different modification in the registry for me that did not work so I did a reset and Windows 8 was bootable.
It is slightly different in Windows 8:
    Quit all applications
Go to start and type regedit.
If you see the UAC (User Account Control) dialog box, just click on continue.
    Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\startoverride
In the right pane, click Start in the name column, and then click on edit.
In the value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
On the file menu, click on exit to close the registry editor.
Reboot and enable the AHCI in the BIOS of your system
I followed these steps and got endless reboots in my Windows 8 partition that only I had to enter the recovery mode and do a full reset.
  • enable the IDE to AHCI for ideapad U460

    Hi all

seen the problem that the others, want to ship double xp on W7: IDE mode, XP, set AHCI post-test guide as indicated below, download BSOD, still not able to start xp using AHCI...

any new idea to transform the IDE in AHCI mode?

PS: I tried all the possible solution. ALL do not work for me. below proposes the idea once again. Ty.

    1. do not guide how to change the ide to ahci in the bios.

    2. do not guide how to change register that I had tried almost everything... zzzz...

    3. do not guide how to download intel matrix manager who is also inapplicable.

I know that some guides work for others, but do not work for this new LENOVO!

  • Windows Vista does not start to change from IDE to AHCI in the BIOS

Hi, I spent a lot of time to look at this problem online. I can't find a lot of google search results and they seem to say enter REGEDIT and change the "msahci" start to 0 and even the 'pciide', or 'iaStorV' start parameters to 0. But this does not work for me. The loading Windows with the loading bar screen Green just continues to go wrong and never Windows startup. I have Windows Vista Home Basic Edition.

I saw someone in this forum with a similar problem but they have upgraded to Win7 on a new installation to fix the problem, they spend on AHCI RAID. I contacted Intel technical support and they said to try HP or the manufacturer of the motherboard. I contacted Intel because I installed a 520 Intel Solid State Drive series and wanted to know if they had a driver to get the benefit of the AHCI instead of the IDE. I know that a lot of people recommend a new installation of Windows, but I don't have a Windows cd with this computer (my computer is here: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00835809 )

I tried to install this Microsoft fix too. http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/922976

I wonder if there is an AHCI driver, can I install it or what I can do to get the job of AHCI?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I suggested that you create disks because you said that the computer came with any one and you could not re - install Windows as suggested a possible solution. With these records, you can the recovery of the system back to a factory State. Since you want to install a SSD or change a BIOS setting, these are the changes which can damage the system and require the use of recovery disks.

If you want a Windows Vista 'clean' no HP Setup, please see Paul's response in this thread of the forum called "System Restore not working not not for HP Media Center Desktop PC. According to his instructions is expected to create a bootable Windows Vista installation disc. My only amendment to this method, is not to use the product key Microsoft Windows Vista on the COA on the side of your computer. Instead, I would like to "Save" the product key from factory OEM HP and HP OEM certificate using ' the Activation, backup and restore ' then 'restore' the certificate and the key to the new clean install of Vista. This will result in an installation clean factory activated that does not require Microsoft to activate. Be aware that the software HP added value will no longer be on your computer. If you want to use this software, you MUST create your personal HP recovery disks and copy the "SWSETUP" folder on your current installation of factory to an external support.

Re-install Windows Vista, as shown above with the SATA BIOS settings set on AHCI you like will work 100% of the time. It should also install to SSDs, where HP recovery discs are known to fail.

  • How can I change my hard drives from IDE to AHCI in windows 7?

Made me change in the BIOS but Windows 7 just gives the blue screen at startup.   Tried to boot from my Windows disk and run the Startup Repair.  Without success.   Windows could not do the repair.  Must return the BIOS IDE mode for readers.

I have under5stand I have to AHCI to add any player to solid state.

    The material is as follows:

Card mother Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H, AMD Phenom II 965 6 GB DDR3 memory processor. Western Digital hard drive 1 TB, 1 TB hard drive SATA2 Baracuda SATA3.

    Appreciate any suggestions.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976.

The Msahci in Windows 7 driver is disabled if the initial installation was performed with the value native IDE BIOS. The Msahci driver must be enabled before changing the boot drive SATA/RAID mode.

  • Change SATA disks to be managed by XP as IDE to AHCI.

I have a system with XP SP3 that I originally installed XP using SATA drives in IDE mode.  I don't have the necessary drivers.  Now, I would like to change to take advantage of all the features SATA AHCI.  Can I use Windows XP repair and use the F6 option to install drivers without changing the rest of the Windows installation and without losing any data that is in a second partition on the same drive. That the drive has two partitions, one with Windows installed in and with the data.

install the driver in normal mode (not safe mode), you won't lose data on another drive

  • Switch from IDE to AHCI system HDD

I have a secondary (no boot) drive filled with the data I want to move from my old PC to a new. Unfortunately, the old machine runs in IDE mode while the new system is running in AHCI mode.

I'll be able to read the data? The drive itself is capable or running in AHCI mode. It "s only a couple of years.

AHCI and IDE are the modes of access equipment on a SATA drive. The format of the disc is the same in both cases, so that the reader will be readable on the new system.

The parameter if you have this option from the IDE to the setting of DCIS is inside the BIOS Setup. If you do not have the option in the BIOS of the drive then you have only IDE setting.

Just installed Windows 8 with a new HD SSD. I forgot to AHCI in the BIOS before installing all my programs. I remembered and set the BIOS to AHCI but Windows 8 will not start. I don't want to do a fresh install. I tried to play with the registry:

I set the start value data to 0

  • Z420 - RAID + AHCI problem

    Hello

using z420, Firmware is up to date, Windows 8 - with the latest drivers from HP Homepage.

Storage mode is set to RAID + AHCI.

Samsung 840 PRO SSD attached to the SATA Port 0 (AHCI 6 GB/s)

    2 x Samsung Barracuda attached to 3 + 4 Port SATA (AHCI / 3 GB/s) running RAID 1

The problem is that my SSD is NOT detected in Mode AHCI (detected as IDE) - and hence the Performance struggles.

When I detach the 2 Barracuda and change the storage Mode in the BIOS to AHCI only (without RAID) and restart Windows (driver AHCI enabled in the registry) the SSD is correctly detected as AHCI and offers a desired speed.

Back to the RAID + AHCI the SSD is again detected in IDE mode.

Is there a problem with RAID + AHCI Mode that the SSD is detected as NO AHCI?

Hope someone can help me with that.

    Thank you

    Andreas Schnederle-Wagner

well - I was able to solve the performance problem now!

I replaced the rest of iaStorA.sys with the iaStorA.sys RST version - and now the system SSD full speed...

I have attached 2 Screenshots - "before.jpg" watch my setup with performance problems. "after.jpg" my current setup with maximum performance!

Only problem left is the name of the SSD paralyzed device - but I hope that it is not a problem...? ! ?
