Identification of audio formats

Once, I thought that the distinctions between the different audio formats were simple, no more. More reading, more confused, I become, so I hope that it is not really necessary to know ALL the details to make smart choices.

"Container formats. concatenated, prefixed with headers ADTS, raw, codecs, ID3 tags, encapsulators, AAC, M4A, MPEG-4, etc.". Maybe I need to know this stuff. What I really want to know, is what format is on my CD. After mount on my desktop, I get two different readings of two different tools. Media-Info says the following (condensed): size 45.0 MB, QuickTime/MPEG Format... 2000format JPEG, Meta info > Type audio, aac, m4as fourCC codec.

Right click on the CD icon produced the following: Format audio CD, capacity 268,4 MB, available 2.5 MB, used 265.9 MB on the disk.

I don't know what 'CD' audio format is. If he has a sense that everybody agrees with, that would be helpful. Also, how is it possible that Media-info indicates the size of the CD is 45.0 MB while the right-click says 265.9 MB?

Yes, it can be very confusing.

  • Best Audio Format:

    Hi people!

    After reading all articles online on the audible files, I got a bit confused as to what audio format to choose. I'm looking for what format audio will be the best for iTunes on Mac.

    Thank you in advance!

    How do you define "better"? If you want small size but higher quality, then go for AAFC.  If you want small size and maximum compatibility with readers of third party go to mp3. If you don't care much for the size but original quality and space savings go to the ALAC.  If you want quality and the maximum cross-platform compatibility and AIFF.

    Realize that upcoding a file such as converting a mp3 to one of the two formats (AIFF and ALAC) lossless does you not have the original CD quality.  It gets you a larger file with original quality or mp3.  Mp3 to AAC Upcoding actually gets you a slightly worse than the original mp3 file.

  • What is the best audio format?

    Anyone has any experience with audio formats for DPS?

    I've got content in mp3 format, which will play on the iPad. Also thought to be converted M4A but I didn't know if there was no advantage to it.

    Any advice?

    Steven Sokulski

    It is not so much the extension that counts. In many cases, this extension is all the same or a differently named wrapper for the real content: encoded an audio channel. For an iPad, coding ("codec") can be AAC, which is recently offered as a standard 'open' by Apple, or the popular MP3. For other devices, it is best to stick to the MP3 format because they don't necessarily support the AAC already.

  • What is the best audio format to import a CD?

    Dear people of the communities,

    What is the best format in terms of better sound quality for an import CD, regardless of the size of the file, just a pure sound quality?

    The goal is to save my music library CD and vinyl in a computer/drive and listening using a computer connected to a sound system 'Stereo' (not ' Surround', regular stereo) with speakers high quality stereo (L + R).

    So far, I've downloaded using a 320 kbps MP3 format. Listening to a CD quality is very poor.

    I use iTunes 10.7.x (as well as iTunes 12.x on a newer platform, but imports of CD I use version 10.7)

    All parameters are the following:

    Import using MP3 encoder =

    Parameters = custom

    Use the Error Correction = No.

    ---------------------------------------------

    Stereo BitRate = 320 Kbps

    VBR = No

    = 44,100 kHz sampling rate

    Channels = stereo

    Stereo mode = Normal

    Smart encoding = No

    Filter Freq below 10 Hz = No

    I think he wouldn't be WAV course, AIFF and Apple Lossless I know are both better quality, but using an Apple encoder can restrict what will be the player who is also important.

    Thank you

    Alon

    .

    Any lossless format will offer the best audio quality.  The available choices:

    • WAV is probably the most widely supported but it lacks the ability to incorporate metadata or illustrations, so while you can move the audio between different systems files as soon as you go outside iTunes you will lose all the artist / album / song information.
    • Apple Lossless (ALAC) is definitely the best choice in iTunes - he has the same metadata / support work such as MP3 or AAC and supports full 16/44.1 audio with file sizes about 65% of the equivalent WAV file
    • AIFF is very similar to the ALAC, except that (in the Variant used by iTunes), there is no lossless compression, so the file size will be larger

    The determining factor here will be where you intend to use the files - many other readers take in charge of the three options mentioned above, either natively or (for the ALAC and AIFF) using the appropriate plugins.  Unfortunately the lossless codec which has the broad support of all (FLAC) is not supported by iTunes.  There are, however, many utilities out there that can convert between ALAC and FLAC (and vice versa) if that proves necessary.

    ========================================
    During extraction of a CD with Windows Media Player, you can
    Choose MP3, WMA or WAV, but I don't think that WMP can
    make a simple conversion from one format to another.

    Based on your description I think that would be a solution

    I have the Sony PXW - X 70 camera video. I recorded in AVCHD format... the file extension is .mts - when I integrate the CC file I can see the video and hear the sound in the control screen. When I put the video on the timeline, all I get is no video and audio. Also, in the sandbox, I see only the audio symbol on the video thumbnail. When I open the file in CS6, it works fine. So, I try to understand that CC is missing a codec or something.

    I haven't used sense Pr 6.5 and I'm waiting on a new editing machine to be delivered with Pr installed cc. At the time I would like to convert it to wav format, 48, 000hz, 16-bit stereo music. Music would come generally from

The manual says: in order to avoid the consistent use of audio editing software or transcoding software to convert your files natively supported formats uncompressed sample rates supported high. The manual also mentions the 32-bit format. With the system, I have to come which would be a good workflow? Please, I beg you.

  • What is the possible purpose of these large audio formats?

    I learn more about the amount of data is actually necessary for high fidelity audio. For as far as I can see, the data files more high quality fit to be worked with and exported to Adobe Audition (CS6) are WAV - PCM and BWF - PCM files as described below:

    Format: Wave PCM (*.wav, *.bwf)

    Type of sample: 192000 Hz, 32-bit

    Bitrate: 24576 Kbps

    Format settings: wave non-compressed, Point 64-bit floating (IEEE)

    Markers and other metadata included

    Sizes of large file estimated, such as 6 min = 1 GB for audio stereo

    Multichannel audio available

    44.1 kHz to 192 Kbps (usually from 16 - bit) is usually the maximum level of audio fidelity. I prefer a minimum of 256 Kbps and 24-bit (32-bit if possible). What is the purpose of these complex audio file formats and?

    Forget speeds - they are irrelevant. You don't need to taste everything faster that 44.1 k because this rate will help you understand all the information present in the signal, up to about 22 kHz. Here's several kHz more than any adult hearing extends. Your ears have a dynamic range which is potentially greater than 16-bit signal, but not for a go. If you start to 0dB (using this as the threshold of hearing), then the subject + 85dB acoustic reflex mechanism kicks in and stops gradually the sensitivity, but allows you to hear sounds with higher levels without damage. But it desensitizes you at lower levels when this happens, then the offer 96dB a linear 16-bit system is more than enough - as has been widely demonstrated by research.

    The point of greater depths of bits has nothing to do with the hearing, but everything to do with the treatment. If you use the 32-bit floating-point system, you can manipulate the levels up and down and even save the results between the two without loss. It will not work with an entire system according to - you lose resolution to the point that save you if attenuate you your signal. With the floating-point system, you can whack it up and down without loss, because the changes are stored in the bits scaled, and data (24 bits) are unchanged.

    The history of all these extended formats is a bit creepy and based on a lot of misinformation propagated by people who should have better, but didn't. It was at this stage a technically sound reason, why some records of highest example sounded "better" - which is doubtful-wall filters of bricks that were used to creating important phase errors in the range of audible frequencies. But now that oversampling is the norm, 44.1 k systems work quite well, as they should do, and there is absolutely no justification whatever the massively high sampling rate unless you save bats. There is no significant musical harmonic content that exceeds about 14kHz, and if you include a lot of harmonic content at higher levels, a large number of listeners is quite disturbing.

  • Best audio format to incorporate export to PDF?

    Hello, I was wondering what is the audio file format would be preferable to incorporate export to PDF. I want to integrate the audio file into a button for playback on the passage of the mouse in the exported pdf file. Previously, when I got CS3, I actually had convert my mp3s to avi files, as (believe it or not) that turned out be the only format that could read correctly with a toolbar in the pdf file, and only after I changed the media player (from quicktime to Flash) for EACH audio file in the pdf file. It was a headache trying to incorporate hundreds of audio files and I wonder if CS5 is improved.

    If you use InDesign CS5 or CS5.5, you must use the MP3 format. It will work well with Acrobat 9 Pro and Acrobat X Pro, as well as 9 player and Player X.

  • BDP-S570 not out of HD audio formats

    I have audio output with my BDP-S570 problems. BluRay connected to the Denon AVR-1911, through cable high speed HDMI. Denon then connected to Bravia KDL-55HX800 through same cables. 3D video works fine but I'm not getting any outputs audio TrueHD or DTS HD and not even get regular Dolby incidentally. Output on just says Denon Multi Ch. I have a PS3 connected to the Denon even with the same cables and output HD audio very well. I realize that I can just use the PS3 for the same use but still need to understand this problem. I have read a lot into that and have fooled with several settings, but nothing seems to work. Am I missing something simple? Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Figured it out. Just in case anyone has the same problem, you have to set Off BD Audio Mix. (Mix = is the default.) When the mixture is turned on, the player decodes and output multichannel PCM. Now I get the DTS HD and the sound is incredible.
