If Win XP SP1 is no longer supported, can I reinstall from my system disk and always upgrade to SP3?

My hard drive is filled with thousands of uninstall files and folders while he was trying to upgrade my operating system to SP3. I want to wipe the hard drive and reinstall xp and other software. My system drive is XP SP1. Can I reinstall this version and then go online to upgrade to SP3?

I have a laptop Dell Inspiron 5100 with a Pentium 4 processor and 1 GB of RAM (maximum). I don't think that I have the option to upgrade to windows 7.

While Windows XP with SP1/SP1a or SP2 is no longer "supported" - it's just a matter of installing Windows XP patched SP3 to fall in this category 'supported '.

My suggestion - to make things simple - if you install cleanly, simply download and install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP first.  Reboot several times.  Then, download and then install Service Pack 3 for Windows XP.  Reboot several times.  Then start visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and continue to install post-SP3 90 updates +.

Although he * would * run Windows 7 (if the drivers are available) - I recommend sticking with Windows XP for this computer.

    Hi MAMARDA,

Welcome to the Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

I would like to ask you a few questions in order to get a better understanding of this issue so that we can better help you.

    (a) what version of Windows 7 use you?

    (b) what is the exact error message you are getting?

Method 1: You can also try to perform a file system (scan SFC) verification tool. This tool will fix the system files are corrupted.

    Scan SFC enforcement procedure:

    1. click on the Start button

    2. on the Start Menu, click all programs followed by accessories

    3. in the menu accessories, right-click on command line option

    4. in the drop-down menu that appears, click the "Run as Administrator" option

    5. If you have the User Account Control (UAC) enabled, you will be asked permission before the opening of the command line. You simply press the button continue if you are the administrator or insert password etc.

    6. in the command prompt window, type: sfc/scannow then press enter

    7. a message is displayed to indicate that "the analysis of the system will start.

    8. be patient because the analysis may take some time

    9. If all the files need replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Vista DVD for this process to continue

    10. If all goes although you should, after the analysis, see the following message "Windows resource protection not found any breach of integrity.

    11. once the scan is finished, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.

Method 2: If this is a recent problem that has developed you can try to perform a system restore and check if it works very well.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next

    4. click on finish

Note: When you perform the system restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

For more information, please follow the below given link:

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the configuration of the operating system to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/936212/

Method 3: you can try to start safe mode and restore the system, if you are unable to do it in normal mode.

For a safe boot, you can follow the below given steps:

    1. remove all floppy disks, CDs and DVDs from your computer and restart your computer.

Click the Start button, click the arrow next to the button lock and then click on restart.

    2. do one of the following:

    a. If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then stop and restart your computer.

    b. If your computer has multiple operating systems, use the arrow keys to select the operating system you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8.

When you are in safe mode, follow the steps mentioned above to complete the restore of the system.

    Hope the helps of information.
Please post back and we do know.

As part of my installation of productivity software I wanted to install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft) and in the context of that, the lack of site MS to validate windows.

So I ran the validation tool and that's when I get the dreaded error on the tool of validation no longer supported.

Then, I searched and read value of hours of * about this error (more of which are dated before 2013). I tried many, many, many solutions proposed to MS only sources (including using IE 10) does not. However I managed to validate Windows using this page the problem is that no "validation code" is provided when running this test.

  • Cannot switch to Win 7 SP1

I have a HP Slimline s5670t. When I recently tried upgrading to Explorer 11, the installer told me that I have Win 7 SP1. The computer came with Win 7, but not SP1. I did my utmost to update and install SP1 only to find out that it will not be installed because I need a newer version of the graphics driver intell (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2505743). Well it turns out that intel is unable to update the graphics driver on my hp because hp installed their own version of the innovative of it. I checked the hp driver updates intel graphics on their website and there is not a more recent available. So without an updated graphics driver intel HP, I can't upgrade Win 7 SP1.

What I've read, SP1 fixed a number of security issues. So now it seems that I'm stuck with a computer that is not secure. You think that I should give her medicine for anxiety?

Seriously, all the suggestions and help is appreciated.

    Thank you

    Doug

    More like hit a dead-end.

Thanks Big Dave! This more or less worked, although I have not exactly follow your directions.

I started with a factory reinstall and reinstalled the chipset intel and graphics drivers intel as you suggest. The only thing that I do not have to uninstall the graphics driver intel because I was afraid of not being able to see anything! Then, I did all the updates of Windows.

After the adjournment, I reinstalled the original intel chipset and drivers graphic once more, to make sure.

One thing I should mention is that SP1 has never as a possible update by using Windows Update. I guess it's smart enough to not to suggest a undate which cannot not be installed.

I also found a page of windows support thereon (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2498452) and took his suggestion (method 4) to install an update for the graphics platform (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028560).

Because the SP1 is not an option under Windows Update, I downloaded and installed separately, and it installed! As a result, it's about 60 updates, and now I'm good to go!

Thanks again! I would have given up without your help.

    See you soon,.

It will benefit only XP until 2014.

If you continue to use XP, you could do at your own risk.

There will be no hotfixes, updates to security for the operating system, including MS IE.

You can still get updates for Mozilla or Google Chrome, but it'll be up to Mozilla or Google.

Finally, the programs will cease to exist for XP, just as they did to Win Me etc.

It would be a good idea to run the System File Checker tool if you have corrupted files

"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

If SFC detects serious flaws, you may need to perform a repair upgrade Installation or relocation complete if you don't have a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

If you can borrow a DVD of Vista from Microsoft you save doing a reinstall full:

  • Windows 7 Pro Sp1 is no longer the validation

My genuine copy of Windows 7 Pro Sp1 is no longer valid.  Apparently, I have "24 days to activate.

I have my product key (see below)

Basically, I had to wipe my SSD and reinstall my Windows 7 thanks to my new drivers to Saitek X 52 pro almost gives me a heart attack.  This is a known issue and my lack of knowledge between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 was the cause.

Fortunately communities that I belong are most excellent help to these questions, I found this and it fixed everything
    https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1vdrnq/having_trouble_installing_a_saitek_x52_hotas/

all this is very well now.  I blame the fact that I took deliberate measures, backup my system several times, before I did this and now no worries.

but now, after the validation when I reinstalled first Win7, my product key no longer works, and he asks me to re-do.

I could really use some help.

  • Cannot open the application "Mail" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported

I work on a MacBook Pro mid 2012

    Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

    OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

The Mail app suddenly quit and when I tried to resume, I got this message

"Cannot open the application"Mail"because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported."

This also happens with the "Maps" app

All Mac software are up to date, but "Mail" has been working fine since my last update that was awhile ago.

I am confused to say the least. Suggestions? Thank you!

If you do a Get Info (command - I) on Mail and Maps applications, what version numbers do you see?

    Try a reboot.

Make a backup using Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure that data files can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try to set up another admin user account to see if the same problem persists. If back to my Mac is enabled in system preferences, the guest account will not work. The intention is to see if it is specific to an account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolate a problem by using a different user account

If the problem is still there, try to start safe mode using your usual account.  Disconnect all devices except those necessary for the test. Shut down the computer and then put it up after a 10 second wait. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the SHIFT key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. Startup is considerably slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a check for directory and disables all start-up and connection, among other things. When you restart normally, the initial restart may be slower than normal. If the system is operating normally, there may be 3rd party applications that pose a problem. Try to delete/disable the third-party applications after a reboot using the UN-Installer. For each disable/remove, you need to restart if you do them all at once.

The Bank site requires Java and they say that you no longer support it. Now, I have to use IE which I really dislike.

  • I understand that you no longer support Adobe Flash player, you have another plugin for my games?

If you think that Adobe Flash player is not a suitable plugin, you have a suggestion for an alternative? I've been using Google Chrome, but I told myself that they will not prohibit Adobe as well. I play 'King' of games such as Candy Crush, as well as others, and I will not renounce my games. I tried looking for an alternative a few months ago because Adobe crashes every day, but I went to the wrong site and downloaded a virus instead. Any suggestion that you can give me would be great. Thank you for your time.

    Price of leila

Everything you've read that Mozilla has declared no longer supports the Adobe Flash Player is incorrect. Mozilla supports still Flash but currently has all previous versions on a deadlock due to critical vulnerabilities. https://addons.Mozilla.org/Firefox/blocked/

Mozilla puts only versions of Plugins (and Extensions that are malicious software) which are serious security (criticism), as well as reasons of stability. Unfortunately just about every version of Flash player is on red list since December because feats experienced Sailor and in current versions of time.

Current versions of the plugin base of Flash player for Windows and Mac OS x are not listed but Linux version is due to Adobe not having an update still which is unusual. https://www.Adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

As you can see Adobe has been busy trying to solve the exploits in their Flash Player at the last moment. https://helpx.Adobe.com/security.html#flashplayer

Regarding the Flash alternatives that may or may not work or partially according to the operating system and the site used are Unity Web Player, GNU Gnash and Lightspark.

  • PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

I am a teacher and all my tests are done on 5.2 view review program by Prentice Hall. My school bought in 2014. When I try to run it in my macbook 2016 pro I get this message, "unable to open 'The ExamView Player installer' application because the PowerPC applications are no longer supported." I really don't want to have to redo all my tests.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! My students thank you too!

Apple has stopped supporting these types of applications when they moved to the Lion that was 6 years ago.

OS x: the Application icon has a prohibitive sign or "PowerPC applications are no longer supported" appears - Apple Support

    See for some background information

    http://www.CultofMac.com/103458/OS-x-lion-kills-Rosetta-PowerPC-support-heres-WH to the-to-do-matter-it.

You will need to contact Prentice Hall to find a version that runs on your current OS X.

A site lists a different version of a product called Examview compatible with 'Mac OS versions 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11' but I don't know if this is the product you are referring to.
