  I use iMovie 10.0.8 on a Macbook Pro running El Capitan 10.11.4. I am the only user of this Mac and its running in standard mode administrator/Overlord. There is no guest user account, or anything else.

  However, when I want to import photos or video in iMovie he won't let me. I have to physically move the things I want in a new folder on the desktop and then iMovie has no problem to see and import.

  Am I stupid? I simply click on the button import into iMovie, look in Macintosh HD but the photos app is grayed out! I just want to be able to empty all in Photos and then import from there, as I want to!

  If you use iMovie version 8 or 9 under El Capitan, there is a known issue with still images.  See for example: Black Images/photos in iMovie from El Capitan upgrade

  The only option with El Capitan is updated to iMovie 10.1.1.

  I imported the photos for a period of time, I did.  Each photo is in my new project as a clip. When I push the play button, the tracker moves, but the preview screen is black.  I tried to export mov, but the mov is too dark.  I use iMovie 9.

  iMovie 11 (version 9) supported cameras include not all models Sony FDR.  iMovie 10 supports a number of FDR-AXxx models however does not list your a see particular: iMovie support cameras - Apple Support

  There are a number of problems of running iMovie 11 under El Capitan, particularly with still pictures appears.  (It does not supports video 4K).  I recommend try iMovie 10.1.2 which you should be able to get in for free or may already have in your applications folder.  Although your camera model in particular is still not listed, I would expect it would probably work, and failing that you should be able to read files directly from the SD card if you put in an SD card reader.

This forced me to buy the new version of iMovie 10.12.  Since then, I have a hard time to normalize the audio tracks in an iMovie project.  How do I in the latest version of iMovie? Is there a way I can standardize all separate audio clips at the same time? Or do I have to do each one individually?

  You can set multiple clips in volume at the same time shift-select-the while they are selected at the same time, and then clicking on the speaker icon in the toolbar at the top of your screen.   You will see a scroll bar that when you move back, allows to adjust the volume at the same time on all of the selected clips.  It works as well for audio embedded in the video clips.

  When you work with audio, make sure that the box show the waveform is selected in the settings box you get when you click the button settings on environment right on your screen.

  Since I imovie 9.0.9 my programs folder I am currently using this version and try to find a solution to get back to the version 10.1.2

  iMovie is not part of an installation of El Capitan. So, if you did a clean install of El Capitan, it will not be installed.

  What are the specifications of your clips you want to change? Try to create a new user and see if FCPX is behaving.

  I use imovie 09 with El Capitan. As you know that el Capitan not including iphoto, imovie 09 can no longer access to iphoto.  Pictures is the replacement for iphoto and imovie 09 will not otherwise be. Finally, imovie 09 access is more itunes.

  I have so many projects that are now useless, like all pictures and external soundtracks are more accessible.

  Have you tried updating iPhoto version 9.6.1? This version works well on El Capitan and iMovie 9.0.9 shows iPhoto libraries in the photo browser. The screenshot below is from iMovie on OS X 10.11.5 9.0.9: I don't have older versions of iMovie, if they are still able to see the iPhoto library.

You must export the music that you want to use in iMovie 9 and made drag in iMovie. Also, be aware that iMovie 9 is not compatible with El Capitan, so you could experience problems with frames display, black picture in the viewer etc.

  Try to open iMovie while holding down the command and option keys. If it opens, select Delete preferences. I guess you have not yet created a library. I don't know what version you were using previously, but if it was before iMovie 10 then iMovie updates your projects and events to its library system.

  Install the updated version of the official stable El Capitan, OS X version 10.11.5, that yesterday was published. It is basically the same as the last beta. But then, you should be able to install the update to iMovie.
