Implementation of Airport extreme with the same SSID

My House has very thick walls and so I run a Cat5 cable for a number of rooms and installed an Airport Extreme for everyone to create a local WiFi network.

For the moment, each creates its own wi fi network which is very good for connecting phones, tablets and laptops but I'm trying to connect some SONOS devices and they are not find each other so not a link to the main controller of SONOS.

SONOS support suggests that if I could get the extremes of the airport on the same SSID, which should help you because they would all be network extensions and so devices would be able to find each other.

I tried making them all extensions of the network wi fi router but can't see not in the options when I select "Extend an existing network", although on my iPad, I can see wi fi network to the router where the Airport Extreme is so too, it is wired to the router would have thought it should be possible to make all the extensions of a single network.  Research in the community, it seems that the airport is unable to extend a wifi network not Apple, but I could at least get all the airports on the same SSID can help.  I also tried to set up airports so they all extend the network, but they do not see each other because they are too far away.

I'm not an expert in network management, I understand bits having to solve problems earlier, but if there is there advice or suggestions of the community that would be great

Thank you

David

You choose to extend a network when the incoming signal is wifi. What you need is a "mobile network". Simply connect each airport to the router by ethernet and network with the same SSID and password than the original. Reset the airports so that they put in place from the new so that they detect the arrangement and get into bridge mode - you do not want to provide the IP numbers, you want the home router to do and airports to pass.

Thanks for your help... Sorry for my English

Each end is configured in Bridge mode.

Go to airport utility and click on the extreme and go to the network tab.

If you want roaming network configure each extreme with the same wireless name and the same password and the security setting.

For now leave the automatic channels but it may need repair to the top work.

  • 2 with the same SSID E3200

    Hello

I want to install the following in a new House and I am looking for your help.

House has 2 floors. I want to install 2 E3200, one on each floor, but with the same SSID and password, etc. so internet connection / streaming throughout the word is flawless. Is this possible?

Both floors have taken wall ready network and they all lead to the same modem/router, so all devices connected lead to the same network.

    Thanks in advance.

    Bonez

PS. the two E3200 was last updated Firmware Version: 1.0.03

    1. If your modem is a router, you should consider implemented the two E3200 (i.e. as access points) and not as a router bridge mode. Chaining routers can cause various issues, including the offsets and disconnects. There is generally no reason chain routers in a home network, you probably want all interconnection.

    2. otherwise, if you want to use an E3200 as a router (for example because the modem/router don't provide some functionality of routing/firewall you want) you should put the modem/router mode "bridge" device It transformed into a simple modem, and you can then reconfigure your E3200 for your internet connection (for example PPPoE for DSL) or DHCP for cable. The first E3200 then functions as normal internet router. The second should still be used in bridge only mode.

    3. If your first router is 192.168.2.1 and the second was 192.168.2.200 and you connect through the second port of the internet router and you put not the second router mode bridge, you will get a working network. The second router works as a router and has the 192.168.2. * subnet identical IP on the internet port and the LAN side. It is cannot be routed. It would never work. If you connect two routers, LANs should not overlap (this is why you have to change the first router 192.168.2.1 IP, because your modem/router uses address of 192.168.1. *). If you define 192.168.3.1 as the second address IP LAN E3200 you can connect the internet port of the second to the first E3200 and you can use the second E3200 as router.

    4. However, if you run both as a router with different IP subnets (which is mandatory if the second operates as a router) you cannot set up a roaming network. A unique SSID is supposed to link to the same local network. A wireless client assumes that moving from one access point to another on the same SSID to connect to the same local network, that is, he can always use the same DHCP IP address and everything else looks the same on each access point. However, with two routers routing, you have two different and two IP subnets different local networks. So for roaming, is not possible.

    So, I recommend you:

    a. place if possible the modem/router to bridge fashion and use it as a simple modem only. Configure the first E3200 as internet router on LAN IP 192.168.1.1. Implement the second E3200 mode bridge on a static IP 192.168.1.2. Connect the internet port of the second to the first.

    b. If you need to keep the modem/router as a router on 192.168.1.1, put in place the two E3200 in Bridge mode and assign the first one address static IP 192.168.1.2 and the second a static IP address of 192.168.1.3. Use the internet ports for the connection.

    c. If you insist on chaining an E3200 as router to your modem/router, do the same configuration that (a.), but use 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.2.2 to the IP addresses of the first and the second.

Whatever it is, you can configure a roaming with the settings wireless wireless network as described above.

  • Problem of airtime with the same SSID

I often use AirPlay to my iPhone and iTunes on my PC to play for my (home theater installation) AVR - 1506 Marantz.

Configuring wifi in our House are a router/modem to the ISP and an Asus RT-N56U (in access point mode) with DIFFERENT SSID to which I don't have problem to play AirPlay on any device. I had the same SSID when so I can use wifi roaming without having to change the SSID whenever the other signal weakens.

When I put two (router & AP) with the same SSID, Airplay icon will not be displayed? But if I put a different SSID to one of the two, airplay icon is back. Channels are on ch.1 (router) and ch.11 (AP). Someone knows how to set up?

    UPDATE:

Disable NAT in fact access point the AirPlay icon always appear but he cannot yet play through my APR.

    * all updates *.

    12.4.3 iTunes

    Windows 10 updated, firewall offshore

    Marantz 1506 firmware update

always put iPhone to update to the latest version

The routers are also updated to its latest firmwares

What I believe you are describing is a network expanded through repetition, the Apple TV does not work well with repeaters. Try a different configuration.

  • Satellite R830-1GZ: ConfigFree Radar fails to display the networks without wire with the same SSID

I have a new R830-1GZ Satellite with Windows 7 and a (much) older Portege M300 - all have two versions of Radar on them.

However, while the old machine display correctly anywhere wireless and signal forces - even when there are multiple places with the same SSID - I use Powerline Extenders to extend coverage, the new machine with the last RADAR doesn't seem to be able to cope with these multiple identical wireless spots and fails to show more than one at a time - and then reliably.

I should add that both machines work quite well in fact using the same SSID points connecting to the stronger.

Is there a utility round way this or another that correctly displays it available different SSID and strength.

    Thank you very much

As far as I know there is no other Toshiba utility that could manage wireless networks and display devices Bluetooth as ConfigFree don't.

  • 3070 connectivity problem - multiple Accespoints with the same SSID

    Hi all

I have a problem with my printer HP Deskjet 3070 printer all-in-one.

I have 2 accespoints with the same SSID for better coverage of the pit of the wireless home network.

For some reason any my HP printer keeps losing wireless connection when the 2 accespoints are rising.

I use a different frequency for the 2 accespoints channel and it works fine with all other wireless devices.

I did that a DHCP are used, r, but in fact it doesn't matter because the printer uses a static IP (192.168.0.3)

When the two AP is the printer loses wirelesss connectivity. (The blue led will blink)

If I take one of the accespoints offline, the printer becomes available.

Is this a problem on my end or a problem of software/firmware printer?

    Kind regards

  • Must configure with the same SSID of the AP

We are looking for the purchase of two Access Points to our new building.  We currently have at our old facility two end bottom of AP with two different SSIDs.  Manaully users simply switch between the two.  I would like to know how it would be difficult to set up it would not have users to manually switch as they traveled through the building.

I have looked at Cisco AP below and I was wondering if she had the ability to do so.  Is there another hardware or software needed to put up something like that.

Just to clarify I only need two AP and want things transperent to my users.  I want them to be able to walk the area covered to another area covered by the AP2 and AP1 and loose no matter what connection.  Here it's automatic for users do not have to do anything to move things.

Any info anyone can provide to help me would be greatly appreceated.  Thanks in advance.

Access point wireless Cisco Aironet 1140 AIR-LAP1141N-A-K9

As I understand it, you can configure both with the same SSID settings and security and that they will be 'transparent' to switch to the other. It is if you do not use something like an IP phone that requires a quick transition between the two. In this case, you would need a controller.

  • How to configure Airport Extrem with OS El Capitan?

Hello, I need help to set up airport Extrem with the OS X El Capitan. The system always show the same question:

You will not be able to administer the old 802.11 g with your Mac OS X El Capitan AirPort base stations.

    Basically, you have three options:

    1. Replace the Express with a newer 802.11n model.
    2. Use a Mac with OS X Lion or earlier version.
    3. Use a Windows XP or Windows 7 PC.
  • LAPN300 - the best configuration for 3 access points, while using the same SSID

    Hi all

What is the best configuration for 3 x LAPN300 located in various places around my house of 3 floors, access points if I want just one SSID?

I did some initial research which suggests that I can use the same SSID on all three, as long as they are on different channels. 1, 6 and 11 for example. In theory, then, as I wander around the House the client machine must auto swap to the AP with the signal stronger.

What do you think? What is the best way or do, or could suggest you something else?

As an aside... If I decided to create a second SSID for the guests at home, I would also want to add wireless isolation to this SSID. How would that be managing the DHCP server on the local network? How would be asked to connect to the SSID has never get an IP if they have been isolated from other clients on the local network?  Besides, how they see the router? The ANNUAL lets you specify exceptions to this isolation for this feature?  Alternatively, as I suspect, is the right isolation feature isolate them from other WLAN, not the LAN clients customers?

I did some testing and configuration of the AP with the same SSID and security will do what you want. Don't worry about setting the channel because the auto channel setting works with these devices and automatically adjusts the spacing between the appropriate channels.

Recommendation of the VPN_user is what you need if you want to isolate the SSID comments from the rest of your network clients.

Isolation of SSID of the AP will guard only wireless devices to communicate with each other on the same SSID on which it is enabled.

  • Extend an AirPort Extreme with a Terminal AirPort Express increasing the number of users?

I have an AirPort Extreme 2 years ago. Based on the technical page of the product, the router can theoretically connect up to 50 users. That's more than enough if used at home.

However, I intend to deploy a network of airports in our new office building and we have more or less 50 employees. Because everyone has a smartphone that it needs to connect, I try to at least 100 users/devices. Which includes all the network printers. Obviously, an AirPort Extreme is not enough. Another thing, I have considered is that the office building is 2 floors and all the walls are made of concrete, which means the distribution of the wifi signals is affected.

I thought to extend an AirPort extreme with 3 more AirPort Expressare (mobile network). It's 2 APs on each floor. That should solve the problem of distribution wifi. I'm not sure the first problem - 100 or more devices into a single network.

So extending an AirPort Extreme with 3 more AirPort Expressare (making a roaming network with 4 access points) increases the number of potential users of 50 to 200 (assuming that each access point can connect to 50 users)?

In theory, Yes.  But you must take this specification of 50 users with a grain of salt.  Once there are 20-25 users on the same airport access point, things will slow down significantly. The system will operate as of cold molasses with up to 50 users on the same access point.

Quite frankly, in a business application, you need a software router. Apple routers are designed for home use.

Another way to say the same thing, is that Apple does not routers Apple at the Apple Store. Who could tell more than anything whatsoever about the suitability of the products in your proposed network.

My advice would be to get an IT professional in and review your needs... before you move further.

  • The Airport Extreme with Time Machine and HD 1 t

I have an Airport Extreme with built-in hard drive of 1 t. My iMac has a 1 t hard drive too. Time Machine has successfully supported the HD integrated for a few years now, but he can't. The message said: he needs 2.7 T. Why would it need to back up a hard drive of 1 t?

I have a few other connected external drives but I made sure to remove them from the Time Machine backup list, so everything there should be backup is the HD 1 t, which still has unused space on it. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a few other connected external drives but I made sure to remove them from the Time Machine backup list

I think that you include perhaps instead of with the exception of the...

If you look at time Machine... the list of disks, you should have is excluded... If remove you it from the list of the excluded, they are included...

It is opposite to almost anything else, I saw where you include on the list of things.

In this menu area, you must have all of the listed external hard drives. Because they are excluded not included... If your list is empty as mine... then all are INCLUDED.

    Hello

Check updates firmware for the Airport Extreme.

    ---------------------

Although I think that the question is really the Airport Extreme also updates Windows 7 WiFi.
Check with the system manufacturer and the real device manufacturer updates the driver.

Control Panel - network - write down of the brand and the model of the Wifi - double click top - tab of the driver - write
version - click the driver update (cannot do something that MS is far behind the pilots of certification). Then
Right click on the Wifi device and UNINSTALL - Reboot - it will refresh the driver stack.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods
below is preferred so that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are
    found)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

Download - SAVE - go where you put it - right click – RUN AS ADMIN.

You can download several at once however restart after the installation of each of them.

After watching the system manufacturer, you can check the manufacturer of the device an even newer version.
(Those become your fonts of rescue system manufacturer).

Repeat for network (NIC) card and is a good time to get the other updated drivers as windows
    7 love the updated drivers.

    I hope this helps.
