Import excel tables in InDesign and retain formulas

Hello world

I need to update the style and format of a bunch of old forms that were made in Excel, to match our new style guide. The problem is that many forms understand formulas... What can I do to make these in InDesign? And they will always be there if I create a PDF to fill out on-line that users can fill it with Adobe Reader?

Thank you very much in advance for your help,.

Christine

InDesign cannot read and/or analyse Excel formulas. Excel puts the formula in a cell and adds last result, and which is read by InDesign to plain text. It is rather the opposite: to get a 'formula' in ID, you will need to fit in plain text in Excel (once again, see you in ID in plain text).

Nothing to fear: Excel is very bad in the formatting of the text; ID, on the other hand, excels in the present.

Table styles have absolutely nothing to do with it. They are for tables formatting , not for the calculations. Moreover, these Table Styles are integrated into IDS since the CS2 version - last is CS4.

    Hello

I've been putting together a manual intended to circumvent the process stretched having to go through and replace text and variable whenever the manual must be duplicated for a new client/build.

To do this, I have compiled a book in MS Excel consisting of 15-20 sheets, each with a table of variables depending on the section of the manual. These can be filled in the responses of the client accordingly. Example:

    excelSS.JPG

I then inserted datatags in the InDesign document, so that a mailing can be executed using one. Copy CSV spreadsheets excel and automatically fill the manual with the values, see below:

    guideSS.JPG

My current problem is that in some tables, I have several bullet points which, in Excel, had to be expressed by inserting a ball, and then the text symbol using Alt + Enter to create a break line (so that I can have multiple lines of text in a cell).

Unfortunately, when I run CSV2Tables to pre-populate each table with content from Excel, this break is interpreted by InDesign as a command that starts on a new line - which means that the lymphocytes which contained several lines are imported in InDesign as several lines of text in a line. (see below).

    guide2SS.JPG

My question is, is there any alternative to the use of Alt + Enter in Excel so that I can still have multiple lines of text in a cell, which can then be imported into InDesign as a line.

    OR

Is there a way to change what InDesign picks up as a new symbol of the line - I looked at "Hidden characters" and looked around the internet but have not found a solution for the moment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Remplacer replace by a kind of code of text inline for line breaks, then run find/replace after the merger to convert them into actual breaks.

  • Linked excel tables in InDesign CS5 update problems and keep the formatting: need help

I've been using excel to place several tables in my InDesign CS5 document which will require the update on a regular basis. The tables are already formatted in excel, so I will place in InDesign with formatting and you will usually have to reduce proportionally the tables as soon as they are in InDesign CS5. When I'll update the links, it is important the content of the tables as part of current text with larger text and I am unable to "Insert the picture content" or "shrink content proportionally." Nobody knows how to solve this problem or know of another way to link excel with formatting tables and update without having to reformat the table (i.e. to resize the image and text) every time that happens an update? Thank you!!

Can't do it, sorry. Tables only.

  • Import Excel table in document Indesign CC?

I'm working on a brochure that contains a class of 15 points program, dates, hours and fees. I created the table in Excel, but cannot find out how to import into my flyer as it is. I record from Excel in a collection of graphics, but when I "placed" in the circular he was totally out of table format / font I used, etc. So I need to know if there is a way to transfer the table for the flyer, maintaining all the elements.

File > place and select the .xslx file. Show import options to choose which sheet, indicate if you want to put in with formatting or not and so on.

  • Script to select several tables in indesign and editing

I need a script that will select all the tables in a doc great indd with tables imported from word.

I read another question on here need to select all tables simliar

but I don't have the knowledge of script to modify it according to my needs. I hope someone can help. Hope also I ask not too much either, but here goes.

I need to select all the tables and the weight of the 0.25pt race

Then select the row of the top of each column and fill it with 10% black, and make the top line (or cell heights) 'exactly' (not ' at least') height 5.09 mm

That would make me really, but is it possible to adjust the width of the columns of these tables too using a script and style of cell?

It would be rank 1 'exactly' mm 112,956 1 cell (cell style 1) and cell 2 row 1 'exactly' 4,956 (cell 2 style)

Cell 1 (single cell) line 2 117.912 mm (cell style 3)

1 (single cell) tier 3 the cell (cell 3 style)

I really hope you can help, because it will allow me to win a load of time.

Thank you 1 million - in the meantime I will continue to walk through them all manually hoping someone can help before I did all - but it seems that taking me days.

  • How to import excel table in pdf text fields

I am trying to import an excel file / saved as 'Tab Delimited Text' to a PDF file with existing text files - I can get the 1st row of copy, but when I try to add the 2nd row, it changes all copy. Anyone know how I can add rows to copy in a pdf file? Maybe what I need to change the properties of the text field to?

You can import a row of data at a time.

If you want to create a new copy of the file for each line that is called mail merge and it can be reached by using some versions of the plugin PDF Maker in Word or Excel, or by using a script.

I met a troubling problem when you import data tables in InDesign from Excel. This is the standard binder with named tabs. The value-"1.0" will not import into InDesign. he refuses. If manually, I go in the Excel file and change the cell containing the value of 'Number' to 'Text' it will be important, but it's not scalable or possible when monthly reports comes through and dozens of tables are automatically transmitted to.

Is this a know bug? I can't find details online.

  • Date format changes when you put an Excel file in Indesign

I have an Excel sheet with the date format DD-MM-YYYY.

I need to put this Excel file in Indesign - and the link, so I can update the Excel sheet and put it auto updated in Indesign.

So I put my file management preferences to "create links when placing text years Spreadsheeet Files", go to file > Place and choose my Excel sheet. In the import option, I don't see any option to keep the date format. But when I look at the table in Indesign changed the date format DD/MM/YYYY.

The same thing happens if I chose 'To format table' or 'Unofrmatted'. That if I copy and paste the table actually the show dates above right. But it's not a solution for me, since I need the linked Excel file!

So, do I did wrong? Is there some settings in Indesign to preserve the format of Excel date instead of change?

I use the Mac version and I get different results with the 2011 and older versions. I tested the top down and the values are different. On windows, MS Office is better, so I often work on Mac, but change to Windows, then save again with a new file name, and use it. But not everyone has this opportunity.

With Excel on Mac is a huge problem that. and exchanged everwhere in its German version. It's ok in numbers, as German and English exchanged. and,

But with the files exported as CSV, it becomes a huge problem, because Excel separates files CSV Comma, but pointed, and no other application (and neither itsself Excel) will read these files correctly. Excel on Mac is so good for the calculation, but if you go information in another application it is a mess.

Yes, you can and there should be no restrictions. I understand that you have customized tables, and it should be OK to import these tables.

Do you mean without errors in the text or formatting? When you place an Excel doc, the Place dialog box allows you to display Import Options. You can choose to place as a non formatted table and apply to any InDesign Table Style.

  • Help to import Excel data in tables preformattes

This is my first post here, so please be gentle!

I am a relatively new user of InDesign CS4, and I created the list price of the manufacturer 70 - pg.  A very large part of each page will be of size and price information source of a large Excel spreadsheet.

I created the table format I would use for each page, but the problem comes when I import the Excel data in this table.  For some reason, when I import, all this turns in a cell.  It would be preferable to import into a table not formatted and then put in the form table every time, or is there a way to simply import data into my preformatted table?  I've seen how the former, but the latter seems much easier (.. .Although that could be my inexperience talking).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you very much

To paste a range of cells in the way you want, you have most of the steps down.

The key point is to select the CELL at the top left of the area you want to paste into. See the screenshot below. The first cell in the range of rates is selected.

You may simply move the active cursor in the cell. This puts the contents of the Clipboard into this one cell.

  • How to display '-1' with a table not formatted (Excel spreadsheet) in InDesign

    Hello!

If you place a table not formatted (Excel spreadsheet) in the cells of InDesign with '-1' are not displayed :-(

The Adobe solution is to use the tables formatted, but that is no option for us, because if the numbers in the excel worksheet updated, InDesign loses real formatting and rebuilt the Excel formatting :/

The problem is understandable for Adobe, but we didn't have the suspicion to ask in the forum for a solution.

I think the problem is the operating system and independent version of InDesign - we everywhere (Windows 7,8,10) and Mac OS X, CS6 CC problem - there is a bug/feature in constand.

Does anyone have a solution or a solution to our problem? :-)

    Thank you in advance!

    Ludwig

In Excel, you must precede the - 1 with an apostrophe (so '-1). As you probably know, this is unnecessary with other negative numbers... If I remember correctly.

It is not sufficient for formatting just these cells as text in Excel, the apostrophe is necessary.

  • Rows in the table is empty when you import Excel

Each month, I need to import Excel spreadsheets into an HTML page 'Nine', before you paste the part of the text in an existing page.

Part of my procedure is to remove the outside (with data) lines on the worksheet prior to importation.  In design, the display, I import it seems to work and each resulting table has just the right number of lines. Then I do some find and replace, and copy the code I want in the existing page in Code view.

When I change code mode, I find a lot of empty lines (with the same number of cells, such as active lines) in each set of active lines I pasted.  Because of the amount, withdrawal of these code view is time and frought with error (I could delete the active lines in the next game).  I think this artifact has started when I upgraded to CS5 in CS3.  Is there a way that I do not have these lines? If this isn't the case, could set the agenda so that the number of lines in code view corresponds to the number in design mode?

    Hello Terry,

Without worker point I copy and paste about 23 rows of 8 columns of 5 different pages in Excel 5 different tables in DW5.5 every week.

Honestly, it takes less than a minute for each is in a total view of 2.5 minutes.
