  It is probably a permissions problem.

  The camera you have is compatible with the latest version of Lightroom, which is Lightroom 6/CC.

  Please see the list of the camera supported by Lightroom: supported by Adobe Camera Raw devices

  You can use the DNG Converter, converts images and then import them into DNG in Lightroom.

  I have imported Sony ARW on this computer laptop installation/W8, but today the automatic import fails "not recognized by raw format support in Lightroom." I can read the files in the Explorer window and bridge too (once I have downloaded the driver from Sony).

  Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. Some files also require you to install a codec before you can use the files in Windows Movie Maker.

  What exact version of LR do you use?  Use the help / System Info and look down.

  The A7S requires LR 5.5 or newer.

  The A7S II requires LR 6.2 or newer.

  Files uncompressed Sony A7xxx cameras require LR 6.2 or perhaps LR 6.3 I believe.

  Here are the specs of my current PC running Adobe first Pro CC 2015. However, trying reading or rendering Sony A7s XAVC S images is difficult and restless without a full rendering that takes about 5 minutes to only 30 seconds of video and playback is choppy and laggy.

  I made sure that the Mercury playback engine is enabled in the settings of prioject, however load GPU is rarely more than 5% during playback or record. (This is because of the XAVC-S or GPU not get used for rendering and only for the effects)?

  NVIDIA GTX 960 4 GB

  Samsung 850 SSD

  Or is it just my processor getting old? If I had to buy a new motherboard / RAM, do you recommend a 6700 k or a 5820 k? Worth the clock speed of the 2 extra cores? Price is not a problem between these two.

  XAVCS is a pretty demanding codec in terms of processing power. The i5 lack in this area, because it has only 4 cores and not hyper-threading. Add to that only 16 GB memory and a single HDD, SSD, maybe even the slow EVO? There you have the ingredients for an unstable behavior, which is offset by the accelerated video card effects only. The video card does nothing for effects not accelerated.

  The 5820 K has 6 physical cores and 12 logical cores, 3 times the nuclei of the i5. It is a better choice than the 6700K, but you would still enjoy a 2nd SSD.
