Import of catalogue - metadata

Hello

I exported a bunch of images in the catalog on my desktop PC. On my laptop, I import that catalog into an existing catalog.

So far, as expected. However, on all images I added in this way, I get a warning from metadata. I did not write metadata in xmp on my laptop or desktop. If I told you to fix the problem, she writes a xmp.

To my knowledge he must simply store the metadata for the catalog and do not ask to write an xmp otherwise defined in preferences.

What did I miss?

Thank you

McL

BTW: I'm on 5.4 on Win7

If the metadata warning badge, the arrow is pointing down, then it isn't really a problem to fix. Because you write automatically XMP, as soon as a metadata change is made to an image metadata status would then become "metadata catalog Lightroom are more recent than the original file, which is just what you said a badge.

For users who have the autowrite to XMP option enabled in the settings of the catalogue, this warning should not be considered as the catalog and metadata of the file must always be in harmony. For users who do NOT have autowrite to XMP enabled. but who do not like to manually save metadata via the command Ctrl + S, this indicator of status of metadata is a useful way for them to determine that the metadata has been updated and that they should do that Ctrl + S.

For users like me who never write XMP in their files, or open their files in other programs outside of Lightroom, this warning is redundant. Fortunately Lightroom allows to disable this WARNING badge Display Options menu, which is what I'm doing...

Then maybe you simply have the Option to display defined differently on two systems?

  • Import the preset metadata xmp information

Hi, I was wondering if I could ask you a few questions about Lightroom. I began to use it to change my photos and would like to ask about the metadata presets that you can use. I have a few clients who send me captions for the events in xmp format. Is it possible to import in the metadata presets and apply them to a whole bunch of pictures rather than having to manually enter the information? I know that you can make a selection and save it, but that means having to leave every time. Is it possible to import the information they send me directly in these presets?

I can import the xmp files in photoshop, but that means having to enter each individual photo and import files.

Any advice you can give would be great.

    Thanks in advance

I have a few clients who send me captions for the events in xmp format.

If they are indeed just send you captions, a simple method is:

    1. modify the XMP file in a text editor, such as Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on a Mac.

    2. copy the legend.

    3. in LR, select all the photos that the legend must be applied.

    4. in the metadata Panel on the right side of the library, paste the legend of step 2 in the area of the legend.

Only if there is more than one field that must be defined for each photo (title, caption and task identifier, for example) it would be beneficial to apply the model of XMP in Bridge or PS and then import the image in LR.  Post an example of XMP file would be specified which fields are defined.

  • Export profiles on URM and import the physical metadata

    Dear all,

I want to ask is there any menu to export and import the physical metadata and profiles on the management of records (URM)?

I already try the Migration Admin Config menu but seems that only contained metadata could export and import in this menu.

Is there someone never export and import metadata and profile?

    Best regards

    Hi Charly,

For metadata, access files - Import / Export - Archives - physical related objects.

There, the option to include custom metadata PCM is what you are looking for.

  • Can define you specific automatic import of catalogue records?

Can define you specific automatic import of catalogue records?

If this is not the case, there is a feature request.

    Good day.

The answer is no. This is just a small example of how Lightroom works best when you use a single catalog rather than fragment your workflow.

  • Import of catalogue of the CC from Mac to PC problem

I use a PC as a 'master' desktop computer and a Mac as a laptop 'journey '. Both have the latest version of LR 2015.6.1.  I have tried to import a catalog of travel in PC master and kept getting "LR could not import this catalog because of an unknown error. Previously, I copied the complete catalog file in my master image folder. For guests LR acknowledged the correct race catalog and pictures in seven different subfolders. Received error message when I selected all files, and also when I just chose that an images subfolder.

Previously, I looked at the always excellent tutorials from Julieanne on the subject, however its 2015 tutorial shows different guests. Irritating for sure.

Advice would be much appreciated; wouldn't lose all this development time and effort, I spent on the road.

I think I solved my problem. The Mac and PC catalogues worked well on their own computers, I manually copied the folder with the images and the .lrcat and .lrdata on Mac files to where I wanted to have them on my PC Master (actually a connected external drive). Then, I opened the catalog Mac copied on the PC and it loaded and worked well. I noticed, during this operation, I could have two subfolders named identical to those in my Master PC folders, so I renamed the using LR. Closed this catalogue and reopened the Master Catalog and then has made a "import using a different catalog" and successfully completed as advertised.

Do not know what made the tour or the change of name of a few duplicate subfolder names or the integrity of the catalog / compatibility check with the manual copy and run it on the computer master, but hey, it worked. Has invested a few hours on this one!

  • How to import my catalogues/collections in LR5 on Windows 7 in LR CC on iMac?

I have a lot of photos in the collections with keywords and ratings that I've assigned in LR5 on a Windows 7 PC. I need to import a new iMac using LR CC without losing the data of these collections and metadata. How can I do this?

You should not import anything. Lightroom files are independent of the platform, it should be just a matter of moving and their restoration of links.

    1. Copy the folder containing your Lightroom Catalog and previews in a folder on the iMac (for example, in the pictures folder).
    2. If the photos themselves aren't in the Lightroom file, copy this folder to the iMac too.
    3. When you start up of Lightroom he probably will think that all photos are missing. In the records of the library module Panel, find the highest folder containing your photos, right click (if you have enabled secondary click for the iMac mouse or trackpad, or Ctrl-click on this folder in the foreground) and choose find missing folder. Locate and select the folder in the foreground containing your photos where you put it on your iMac and Lightroom should link everything back up.

Because you copied the entire catalog on the iMac, all your collections and metadata will be on the iMac.

Now, because you move Lightroom 5 CC, he will likely be asked to update this catalog too. Don't forget you give the updated catalog a name you recognize, so that you don't accidentally reopen the old catalog or it will ask you to update again.

  • What is the effect to overwrite the disk with catalogue metadata metadata?

I have a large collection of images on internal and external drives which I'm building on an external and internal a drive. Location of the file, maybe nothing to do with my question. I often see images marked with either "changed by an external application metadata" which have not been processed in another application. I also have pictures tagged "error writing." metadata Retry fails, and you have the choice between crush the metadata.

My question is if you want to use from the drive or the catalog metadata. I don't want to lose data capture, Lightroom metadata written on the importation or the keywords. I would like an explanation of what is causing these errors and the effect of choosing the data disk or the catalog data.

    Thank you.

LR stores his understanding of the metadata of a photo in the catalog - the catalog is the 'truth '.  The status of metadata is supposed to indicate if what is in the catalog is newer than what is stored in the file and if an external application may have changed the file metadata after LR read it in the catalog (a conflict).

Over the years, LR has had problems showing the status of correct metadata for a photo. It was worse in older versions, but I've seen a few reports of incorrect state in LR 6 / 2015 CC and I met a few cases myself.

As long as you believe that you have not run external applications that have changed the metadata of a file, you can be confident that what is in your catalog is 'truth' and ignore the State of conflict indicators.  You can freely do metadata > save metadata to a file to write what is in the catalog to the files and often to clear the incorrect state.  For the record, it seems that the definition of the option settings of the catalog > metadata > XMP automatically write changes reduces or eliminates incorrect status indicators.

However, I would not ignore "error writing metadata.  So that you can be sure that the metadata in the LR catalog remain the 'truth', the error suggests that there is a problem with your file system - incorrect permissions or a flaky drive.   If the error occurs frequently when you make metadata > save metadata file, which suggests a problem with permissions or permanently damaged disc (check your backups!). If the problem occurs intermittently, which suggests a flaky drive.

  • Import of GPS metadata and models?

I had problem with the loading of the GPS information where the metadata has not transferred on inport. This I hope it is solved when the import preset to the meta-data is reset to none. However the Thai will result in copyright and other presets woul need to be loaded manually. Does anyone have a round work?

To test my understanding: in the right column of the import window, you must apply when importing > metadata defined in a "Preset" (something other than None).  When you import pictures, you think that contain GPS information, GPS information is not displayed in the LR catalog.   If you set apply when importing > GPS metadata to None, then the information appears in the catalog.

If you indeed have this checked (you?), then it is likely that the preset metadata is set to clear the GPS information.  To change this, click the apply when importing > metadata drop-down list, and then select the predefined settings. In the drop down at the top, select the preset that you used for the import. In the section Info from the unit, make sure GPS is off:

  • Impossible to import other catalogue LR?

I get an error message saying that I can't import from another LR catalog because the catalogue was created in a newer version of LR. But I checked the updates and my LR is completely up-to-date. Any ideas?Screenshot 2015-05-18 10.16.25.png

This happens if you have a catalog LR 6 and you try to import into LR 5.

To check what version of Lightroom, you work with a second time (saying "completely updated" is meaningless in this context). What is the full complete version number of the Lightroom you opened? What version created the catalog?

  • Import database objects / metadata since MySQL fails

    Hello

After my first problem with OWB and MySQL has been resolved (see connection MySQL with OWB 11 GR 2 results in "access denied for user ' ), I have a new problem and I could not solve so far and I hope someone can help me. I already looked for patches, but I have not found a patch for my problem. I use OWB 11 g Release 2 on a Linux client.

The connection with the database MySQL is working, but I can't import the metadata. When I test the connection, I should be able to select the corresponding schema, but there is no displayed schema. Even when I get the schema manually it does not. I assured the MySQL settings are correct and that rights to the schema are available to the user. Still, I'm trying to import metadata, I get the following error message: "user-defined metadata interface definitions are invalid" (translated from the German, so it could be written different in the English version of OWB)
I checked the settings in OWB, then I joined also the location in the control center. OWB locations are also implemented. What can I do to fix this?

    Hi Joerg

    Can you try to do what follows from the root OMBPlus "/" context;

Change the path to your path, it is a file that should exist on your drive after the db OWB/11 GR 2 installed.
    OMBALTER CMI_DEFINITION 'MYSQL' USE DEFINITION_FILE ' / product/11.2.0/owb_pcd/owb/reposasst/miv_generic.xml'

If this succeeds, perform an OMBCOMMIT

You can then retry the first request he should be of rows returned. Then you can start OWB and try the import.

    See you soon

  • Can you import excel data metadata to images (JPG, PSD, TIF) in bulk?

I am very new to work with metadata. I have a microsoft excel file with fields IPTC Core, that I need for each file image.

(Creator, title, Description, keywords, title, task identifier, line of credit, Source, rights and conditions of use, status of copyright and copyright notice)

Is there a way to get the metadata in the files without having to copy from a cell in each metadata field individually?

I'm hoping some type of script, perhaps...

Furthermore, if only ONE of the required fields updated in all files (i.e. the rights and terms of use) what to do?

    I bridge 5.1 (and versions previous CS3/CS4)

    This could be useful...

  • Import of catalogue of PSE Windows to PSE9

With the new version of PSE9 for Mac finally including the component of the Organizer, I wonder if it would be possible to convert a Windows PSE7 catalog to the catalog of PSE9 Mac? This would allow me to do all my photo processing and organization on the Mac. Currently, I have to run PSE Windows in a virtual machine Windows on my Mac, which unnecessarily complicate things. I think THAT I'm not alone in this dilemma.

    Dolphy

It is 3 steps if you want to use your catalogue of win in PSE7 on PSE9 MAC: -.

    (1) convert the catalog of PSE7 PSE9 on Win

    2) take backup of the catalog of PSE9 on external hard drive

    (3) copy the catalogue saved on MAC and restore the catalog

    I hope this helps...

  • Import of catalogue of 8 elements in LR 2.5

I downloaded John R Ellis psedb tool. Can someone explain in simple terms how to use this program to transfer my parts cataloge for lighroom. I read the instructions on the site of John, but it does not cover this aspect. Sorry if I'm missing something here. Thank you very much

I suggest that contact Mr. Ellis with a message to ElementsVillage.com.

Psedbtool will write your tags PSE, legends, GPS locations and a few other things for the photo of the files themselves (or .xmp file associated with) so that this information will be imported with your photos in Lightroom. It will not convert version games, batteries, the album, creations and a few other things. In addition, if you use PES to apply 'Notes' to the photos, they are not imported into Lightroom.

  • Placement of brush on the import of catalogue of losing

I have a lightroom catalog proxy that has 100 images (low resolution).  He is quick to work on these files.  I have add (cultures and brushes), adjustments to images.  Then a last step I LOCATION of UPDATE FOLDER in the library panel, in order to place the high resolution in there for export purposes. QUESTION: Horizonal images are good, but all the vertical images (if I enlarged the image) have the brush that is applied to the wrong place.  Almost as if it was a horizontal image, then the image would get the proper brush adjustment.  I can not at this time rotate the image, because the adjustment of the brush will move with the image.  Help please

    Hello

It may be a problem related to this reported thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/6038539#6038539 about copied using local adjustment brush adjustments. When it seems that Lightroom does not rotate the image before applying the brush settings, simply applies as if all images are in landscape mode.
