  I have renamed and renumbered variables in my project.  I would like to delete the variables used in the old numbering system.  I deleted all the advanced actions and shared the project actions that contain these variables.  However, when I click on an old variable, it is said: "Deleting variables used by advanced actions, joint actions and text objects is not allowed.  I'm not sure of what is a text object, but I think that I have only two text animations and that is all there is that contains the text.

  When I select an old variable and click on its use, a box that opens just said, Actions: "' and that's it.  What does that mean?

  Lieve noted that there is currently a bug in Captivate where the use of the Variable is not necessarily a reliable guide.  Sometimes if you remove a tip Action that uses a particular Variable, you will find that you cannot later remove the variable, although technically, it appears as if it is not used anywhere.  Captivate still seems to think that it is in use.  The best practice is to open first the tip Action and to remove all references to the Variables BEFORE you remove the action... but most people wouldn't think to do.  If you end up with variables non-cluttering up the project file and no way to get rid of them.

  My guess is that somewhere under the hood in the Captivate CPTX there is always a reference to the tip Action used to be associated with this Variable and Adobe programmers failed to remove these references as part of the function that removes the tip Action.

  Whatever it is, until they fix the problem, you will not have a way to get rid of these so-called variables.

• Passage of variables in Captivate to Flash widget

  I'm developing a widget progress bar simple in Flash to add a Captivate course that I build.  I think that what I want to do is very simple, but I seem to be missing something.

  Quick description:

  • I created a variable in Captivate 5.5 called intProgress , which should be a percentage of the student throughout the course. I set this manually via a tip Action entering the slide.
  • I also created a widget in Flash 5.5 progress bar.  It consists of nothing other than a manual progress bar in Flash component.
  • I want to feed this intProgress of Captivate my Flash widget value and accordingly update the progress bar.

  Here is my function (PDB is my progress bar)-

  And here's how I'm trying to pass the variable:

  courseProgress (MovieClip .intProgress (root));

  It does not resemble the variable is coming in front of Captivate to the widget.  How to do this?

  I think that your problem is that you have this code in the cpSetValue() function which is called only once at the beginning of the film. If the variable cannot be read at the beginning of the film and is not updated for each slide.

  Try to add this code to your cpSetValue() function:

  addEventListener (Event.ENTER_FRAME, updateProgress);

  And to put this function outside of it:

  function updateProgress(e:Event):void

  Now the code above is not very effective. Basically it updates the text box with the variable for each frame of the movie. However, if it works, I'll go into details on how you can get it to update only when you enter into a slide.

• deleting unused events 10.1

  I just went through an extremely painful conversion of iMovie 9-> 10-> 10.1.

  I understand most of the things on the hard, but I'm still confused about a subject.  When I delete an event and some parts of this event are used by other projects, I get this message:

  All media files and projects to this event will be deleted. Extracts used outside this event will remain in your library.

  The thing that is confusing is the event will completely disappear, but projects that have used portions of the videos removed still appear to work.  Parts of the video clips used, stored in the project?  I read on iMovie 10 and she claims to use pointers, but still the manifestation disappeared.

  Can someone explain clearly, used video clips are stored and associated projects?  What happens when you remove the event?  In iMovie 9, he would remove the unused portions of the event but this sill has left the event and video clips used in your event library you may use later for other projects.

  There was a big change in iMovie compared to 10.0.x 10.1 which I did not clearly documented anywhere and confused me at first.  What I found by experimenting is that projects are not stored in the events but are now stored separately (separate files rather than subfolders in the event records are visible in a library).  Now, deletion of event deletes not all projects.  Original media can now be associated with a project - this is where the media goes if we hang out and falls clips directly in a project calendar.  Now there is also a new option to import "Media project".  The media from any source used in the project now appears under "PROJECT MEDIA" above the list of "LIBRARIES".   The media project, in contrast to the media in the events are removed when the project is deleted.

  From your experience, it seems that if we delete an event containing media used in the projects, the media concerned are transferred to the 'local' press of this project.  Of course, the original media files are not actually moved, only the directory structure is changed.  I did not test.  I guess that no matter what media in the deleted event, which is not used in any project is deleted.  Maybe you can check if this is the case (I don't actually use iMovie any more to FCP X).

  It seems that the message "all media files and projects in this case will be deleted. Clips u... ' is incorrect and should not forget the projects.

  I need captivate to reference an external JavaScript variable to check if its value is 1 or 0. If the value is '1' I need to display a button, if the '0' button is hidden.

  There is no way to add a 'score' to a variable, sorry. You can have a variable with a number as a value, not a score. It will be never interpreted as a partition if you want to create a SCORM object. All objects that can have a score to send using SCORM or AICC can be found in the Advanced Interaction (F9) Panel, and you won't find any variables.

  As to transmit the value stored in a variable, as I mentioned earlier, this depends on the LMS. I've been sending variables to Blackboard, and they were visible, but not as a 'partition But I have no idea if Moodle will do the same. Quiz like cpQuizInfoPointsscored and cpInfoPercentage system variables are read-only. It should be possible if you use JavaScript I suppose, not with the built-in feature of Captivate
