Impossible to get hardware information for selected machine (Ubuntu 64 physical)

Hello

I need p2v a Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit physical and I get the error 'Unable to obtain information on selected hardware machine' busy.

I have attached the log files, I also noticed that in the auth.log of the server when you try to make the conversiton, the following lines flow:

1 dec 11:13:42 seg - dev sshd [9830]: password accepted root of x.xx.xx.xx port 63552 ssh2
1 dec 11:13:42 seg - dev sshd [9830]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user root by (uid = 0)
1 dec 11:13:42 seg - dev sshd [9830]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session closed for the root user
1 dec 11:14:01 CRON seg - dev [9922]: pam_unix(cron:session): session opened for user root by (uid = 0)
1 dec 11:14:01 CRON seg - dev [9922]: pam_unix(cron:session): session closed for the root user

I don't see any failure to authenticate, and can the machine the converstion server runs on ssh to the machine to convert and open a session as root with question.

I get the same error if I disable the linux Firewall service running on the machine (ufw).

All in all this is a pretty simple vanilla LAMP server, but it does not convert. Help, please!

Billy

Hi Billy,

I think I found the problem - it's in your/import/storage volume. If you look at the log of the sysinfo file it says

-->

If you look at the path of unity that's devicePath = "/ dev/cciss/c0d1 '. More late looking disks section in sysinfo exit disk c0d1/dev/cciss/c0d1 who has c0d1/dev/cciss/c0d1p1 partition there. This means that any * disk * is used as a volume, but not only the partition. Unfortunately the converter does not support these configurations. What happens is it trying to fill in the hardwareInfo.storage.volume.diskId for each volume and assumes that each volume is a partition on a disk or an LVM logical volume. As for volume/import/storage , none of them are true (it is a partition or a logical volume) hardwareInfo.storage.volume.diskId is left not defined, and this is the error reported later:

2011-12 - 02T 10: 35:20.989 - 05:00 [198536 error 'Default'] not initialized: converter.info.ComputerHardwareInfo hardwareInfo.storage.volume.diskId

I can think about is to run the conversion again and try to deselect the/import/storage volume, convert the operating system, and after (if) the conversion is successful, you can start the target, manually re-create the volume/import/storage , and then copy the data from the source.

Hope this helps,

Ivan

The virtual machine is powered OFF and when I select the virtual machine, and then click Next, I get this error "Unable to obtain information on material selected VM." Hi Jonathan,.

Can you send me the list of contents in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\logs"?  As you have noted that these services are running that they are very likely to produce newspapers in this directory.  Also can you send me the following files as it is possible that logging can be disabled in them:

    "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\converter - server.xml" and "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone\converter - agent.xml.

You can make sure that you connect to the server local converter by going in "Administration > to connect to another server...". "in the main window of the converter.  This is different to connect to the ESX Server.  Just to make sure that the flow is clear, when you go through the wizard, it communicates with the converter server to which you are connected.  The converter server will contact the appropriate converter officer who is responsible for the collection of information from the source and run the conversion.  In this case, the appropriate converter agent is one running on the local computer. This converter agent then connects to the esx server you specified in the wizard to get the necessary information machine.

    Some things I've tried:

This had already happened with another server (also W2003 DC), but the hardware was completely different; Unfortunately, I wasn't able to solve this year here.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance

Thank you for all your help

I finally found the guilty service.

It was pcmonitor monitor/remote control software. Once I stopped it is service vmware converter could get the capacity of the physical drives.

It is rather curious because I made several servers P2V conversions using this software (so far the last one two weeks ago - the difference between that server and this one was that the first was not a domain controller).

Hopefully this thread will help others in the future.

  • Another problem "impossible to get hardware information...". »

Just installed Converter 5.0 on 64-bit Windows 7 computer. You want to virtualize the machine using only the C: volume.

Run converter and immediately got this error when I chose the machine running as a source.

Attached are logs that I could find, including the last two newspapers of hardworking service.

    Can anyone help?

    Hello

Newspapers of worker seem strange. They both stop suddenly after

It looks like an accident of service. Can you check if this is the case? (for example in Event Viewer). If so, I would say that you assign the level of detail record (see VMware KB: increase the logging levels to verbose for vCenter Converter application components) and fix the new log again for further investigations.

The P: volume seems to be encrypted ("is the name of the \Device\TrueCryptVolumeP device"). Maybe there is something specific in what has cause the service down?

Alternatively, you can try bring this volume offline drive (if possible), and then try to restart conversion. But even if this work around is successful, I would still ask the detailed log to investigate the accident.

    Kind regards

If you want to do with the cmdlet Get-View for any reason, you can do

    $report = @()
foreach ($vmView in (Get-View -ViewType VirtualMachine))
    {
        $report += $vmView | ` Select-Object @{Name="VMHost"; Expression={(Get-View $vmView.Runtime.Host).Name}},

    }
    $report | Sort-Object VMName -Descending | Export-Csv "d:\vm_GuestVersion.csv" -NoTypeInformation

But note that as you need a view of the GET each time for the host name, performance will suffer.

  • P2V failed to get the hardware information for the selected computer

    Hi all!

I am (for the first time) doing a P2V conversion.

The target computer is a remote SBS2008.

I have installed the local vCenter Converter Client 5.1 on my laptop

I installed the agent (found in the installation on my laptop directory) on the remote server.

I opened the ports that I found on the website of vmware in the firewall of remote sites (8089, 139, 445, 9090, 137 and 138)

When I enter the connection details in the converter I receive the SSL certificate pop-up (so there is an established connection), but when I click on 'ignore' it just presents me: "Unable to obtain material information to the computer selected."

I've been looking around for some howto or extra info but he had a hard time finding ;-)

Thank you very much for the comments!

When you launch VMware Converter, do my right clicking on the program icon and selecting "Run As Administrator".

Operating system of the target virtual machine is windows2003SP2 Japanese version.

The VMware Server is version3.0.2 ESX.

Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

You need to disable SSL for NFC with ESX 3.0, see here: https://www.vmware.com/support/converter/doc/conv_sa_50_rel_notes.html

  • How to get hardware information to download the correct drivers?

    Hello

I just installed Win7 on a T61. Most of the equipment works with the generic Windows drivers. For the rest, the Lenovo system update tool was very useful. I can nothing but recommend.

However, Windows Media Player will not play DVD and request to update the graphic card driver display analog copy protection. The graphics card has been identified by windows as standard VGA graphics card. In the "Downloads & drivers" section of your site web, several drivers for several graphic cards/chipsets are available for my family/model/Type of T61 (btw, none for Win 7 but I would like to try Win Vista instead, don't you think that these work too?). I realized to a chip NVidia or Intel PM965 according to the manual of Maintenance of equipment for T61 15.4 "screens, correct?

But how can I get information on what graphics card or chipset running my video of the Thinkpad?

    Thank you

    Ralph

    Problem solved ;-)

For anyone else with similar problems: simply enter the brand, family, Type, model information in the "Important information" section and you will be rewarded by a box titled original installation.

    See you soon,.

  • Impossible to get analytical information and/or perform a data load: the 0 dimension is not valid

    Hello

I am trying to load the first set of PSPB files using import data

    Header is:

Budget item, Cube name of loading data, view FTES, proposed, FTE Start Date, end Date of the FTE

And the first row of data:

< LINEITEM ("EPT and powers of the State"), > PlanHR, 'BegBalance, Budget, Base, any year, vacancy, unspecified, U09999, POS099999', 1, 01/01/1951,.

I get the following error when posting:

The 0 dimension is not valid

In addition, the dimension of the office's budget item

and size of the drivers of accounts with members proposed FTE FTE Start Date, end Date of the selected FTE.

Cannot find the error, please help.

    Thank you

Just to let you know, part of the hierarchy of the dimension entity has been marked as invalid for the main Type of Plan. So that's what was causing the error.

  • Get-stat - disk for virtual machines on NFS data warehouses

    Hi all

Through work for VMs on NFS data warehouses get-stat-disc?

    $myVM | Get-stat - disc

Doesn't seem to work for VMs on NFS data warehouses, but that works for VMs on VMFS data warehouses.

    After a presentation of VMware to http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:h78Db7LqHcwJ:www.slideshare.net/vmwarecarter/powercli-workshop+%2Bget-stat+%2Bnfs & cd = 2 & hl = in & ct = Europeans & gl = at the & source = www.google.com.au

«WARNING: NFS performance statistics are not available (to come in a future version of vSphere).»

When these statistics are available for NFS data storage?

    Kind regards

    marc0

The answer is in the property of instance data that Get-Stat returns.

    (1) get-Stat ==> canonical name of the LUN on which disk the hard

    (2) get-Stat virtualdisk ==> The SCSI id of the virtual disk inside the VM

    (3) get-Stat data store ==> the name of the data store

    (1) you give statistics for view virtual machine i/o activity starting from the LUN. For a VM with several virtual disks on the same data store, this will display the total IO statistics. And it will also include i/o generated by another VM on the LUN as swap, Flash files related...

    (2) gives statistics for 1 specific virtual disk of your virtual machine

    (3) statistics of e/s of your VM to a specific data store. Interesting when you have a store of data with multiple extensions (multiple LUNS)

I hope that clarifies it a bit.
